The Business Francis Means Understanding the Pope's Message on the Economy
Free Download The Business Francis Means: Understanding the Pope's Message on the Economy By Martin Schlag
2017 | 210 Pages | ISBN: 0813229731 | PDF | 1 MB
Pope Francis, generally speaking, has thus far chosen to concentrate his papacy on social justice issues, as opposed to doctrinal or liturgical issues. This has led to Francis being hailed as a hero to many on the left, while it has made some conservative supporters of St. John Paul II and Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI disappointed and uncomfortable, even as they love and appreciate his person and gestures of mercy and compassion. Some find his teachings difficult to embrace, especially those concerning business and the economy. Pope Francis has spoken of building bridges as part of what it is to be Christian, but aspects of his message seem to be just constructing walls between the Holy Father and groups of the faithful. The Business Francis Means aims to break through these walls, showing that Pope Francis has something to say to all Christians. His message, taken as a whole, keeps us from dividing the "seamless garment" of Christ: he reminds the conservatives of the problems of inequality and poverty, and the liberals that social justice is not enough - the Church is the bride of Christ, not a social institution or an NGO. Monsignor Martin Schlag summarizes and explains the message of Pope Francis on business and the economy in this compact volume. The Business Francis Means will be of great interest to the Catholic layperson, especially one involved in political or economic life.

The Buddhist Tantras A Guide (Guides to Sacred Texts)
Free Download The Buddhist Tantras: A Guide (Guides to Sacred Texts) By David B. Gray
2023 | 288 Pages | ISBN: 0197623840 | EPUB | 1 MB
The tantric Buddhist traditions emerged in India beginning in the seventh century CE and flourished there until the demise of Buddhism in India circa the fifteenth century. These traditions were disseminated to Central, East, and Southeast Asia, and continue to be practiced, most notably in Nepal, Tibet and Japan, as well as in the numerous Tibetan traditions disseminated around the world by Tibetan masters living in diaspora. The central scriptures for these traditions were generally designated by the term tantra. Tantras are works that purport to relate secret teachings of the buddhas that enable awakening in as short as one lifetime. As such they are understood by their advocates to be the inspired speech of a buddha, and hence worthy of inclusion in the canons of Buddhist traditions. Over the past twenty years there has been considerable growth in the study of tantras as well as translations of these works into Western languages. This volume provides a detailed introduction to the Buddhist tantras. It addresses their development in India, their dissemination to Central, East and Southeast Asia, and their reception in these contexts. It introduces the key teachings in the tantras, as well as the history of their interpretation, and their connection to traditions of ritual, and contemplative practices. It also introduces the classification of the tantras and their place in Buddhist scriptural canons. It concludes with a look at the transgressive rhetoric that characterizes many of the tantras, the impact this had on their dissemination and translation, and the ways in which Buddhists explained this. It suggests that transgressive rhetoric and practices served an important role in Buddhist tantric traditions, which may be why they persist despite the challenges they have presented to the dissemination of these traditions.

The Bourgeois Virtues Ethics for an Age of Commerce
Free Download The Bourgeois Virtues: Ethics for an Age of Commerce by Deirdre N. McCloskey
English | July 15, 2006 | ISBN: 0226556638, 0226556646 | True EPUB | 634 pages | 3.7 MB
For a century and a half, the artists and intellectuals of Europe have scorned the bourgeoisie. And for a millennium and a half, the philosophers and theologians of Europe have scorned the marketplace. The bourgeois life, capitalism, Mencken's "booboisie" and David Brooks's "bobos"-all have been, and still are, framed as being responsible for everything from financial to moral poverty, world wars, and spiritual desuetude. Countering these centuries of assumptions and unexamined thinking is Deirdre McCloskey's The Bourgeois Virtues, a magnum opus that offers a radical view: capitalism is good for us.

The Book of Sailing Knots How To Tie and Correctly Use Over 50 Essential Knots
Free Download The Book of Sailing Knots: How To Tie and Correctly Use Over 50 Essential Knots by Peter Owen
English | November 30, 2018 | ISBN: 1493036742, 1558218726 | True EPUB | 144 pages | 16 MB
In recent years, sailing has undergone some revolutionary changes: Satellites and autopilots are now used for navigation. Artificial-fiber and wire ropes have nearly replaced natural-fiber ropes. But when it comes to decorative knotting, natural fiber is still the favored choice. This book is tops when it comes to learning how to master tying the most common sailing knots. With fully illustrated and step-by-step instructions, the author explains how to correctly tie and use more than fifty knots―including stopper knots, bends, loops, and hitches―and in which situations each one is most useful.

The Book of Mothman
Free Download The Book of Mothman By John A. Keel, Andrew Colvin
2015 | 278 Pages | ISBN: 1507617380 | EPUB | 1 MB
New Saucerian Press proudly presents John Keel's "The Book of Mothman: Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Reality Distortion But Were Afraid to Ask." Using "Mothman" as an organizing principle, the articles in this collection, culled from New Saucerian's recently published "Selected Writings of John Keel" books ("Flying Saucer to the Center of Your Mind," "The Outer Limits of the Twilight Zone," "Searching For the String," "The Great Phonograph in the Sky," "The Passionate Percipient," and "The Perspicacious Percipient: How to Investigate UFOs and Other Insane Urges"), coalesce to create a dazzling, mind-blowing "unified theory" concerning the paraphysical distortions and "glitches" seemingly invading our reality. Many of the articles in "The Book of Mothman" were written years before Keel's "Mothman Prophecies," while others were written years afterwards, making it a very unique and valuable source. With the addition of several 1990s lectures and an interview from 2003 - Keel's last on Mothman - researchers and enthusiasts gain a better sense of just what was going on in West Virginia and the Ohio Valley in the 1960s and '70s. True to form, Keel takes on the endless variety of high-strangeness surrounding Mothman and Mothman witnesses, such as UFOs, MIBs, little green men, hairy monsters, giants, animal mutilations, hypnotism, shapeshifting, psychological warfare, missing time, and phantom aircraft, automobiles, and humans. This special edition features a brilliant introduction by Gray Barker, a recently discovered foreword by John Keel, and a note from the editor, Andy Colvin. "As good an example of pure, unadulterated Keel as you are likely to find..." -Robert Durant, Pursuit Magazine "Decades ahead of all the 'respectable' Forteans and ufologists..." -UFO Magazine "Exposes the dark workings of the Mind Parasites..." -William S. Burroughs "Interesting, informed speculation..." -Brad Pitt

The Book of Lamentations
Free Download Joshua A. Berman, "The Book of Lamentations "
English | ISBN: 1108440142 | 2023 | 206 pages | PDF | 1272 KB
In this commentary, Joshua Berman considers Lamentations as a literary work that creates meaning for a community in the wake of tragedy through its repudiation of Zion theology. Drawing from studies in collective trauma, his volume is the first study of Lamentations that systematically accounts for the constructed character of the narrator, a pastoral mentor who engages in a series of dialogues with a second constructed character, daughter Zion, who embodies the traumatized community of survivors. In each chapter, the pastoral mentor speaks to a different religious typology and a different sub-community of post-destruction Judeans, working with daughter Zion to reconsider her errant positions and charting for her a positive way forward to reconnecting with the Lord. Providing a systematic approach to the careful structure of each of its chapters, Berman illuminates how biblical writers offered support to their communities in a way that is still relevant and appealing to a therapy-conscious contemporary society.
