Genial Gene Deconstructing Darwinian Selfishness
Free Download Genial Gene: Deconstructing Darwinian Selfishness By Joan Roughgarden (editor)
2009 | 272 Pages | ISBN: 0520265939 | PDF | 1 MB
Are selfishness and individuality-rather than kindness and cooperation-basic to biological nature? Does a "selfish gene" create universal sexual conflict? In The Genial Gene, Joan Roughgarden forcefully rejects these and other ideas that have come to dominate the study of animal evolution. Building on her brilliant and innovative book Evolution's Rainbow, in which she challenged accepted wisdom about gender identity and sexual orientation, Roughgarden upends the notion of the selfish gene and the theory of sexual selection and develops a compelling and controversial alternative theory called social selection. This scientifically rigorous, model-based challenge to an important tenet of neo-Darwinian theory emphasizes cooperation, elucidates the factors that contribute to evolutionary success in a gene pool or animal social system, and vigorously demonstrates that to identify Darwinism with selfishness and individuality misrepresents the facts of life as we now know them.

Genesis An Introduction and Study Guide A Past for a People in Need of a Future (T&T Clark's Study Guides to the Old Testamen
Free Download Genesis: An Introduction and Study Guide: A Past for a People in Need of a Future (T&T Clark's Study Guides to the Old Testament) By Megan Warner
2024 | 132 Pages | ISBN: 0567693600 | EPUB | 1 MB
This study guide introduces students to the Book of Genesis in the Old Testament. Megan Warner examines the book's structure and characteristics and covers the latest Biblical scholarship, including historical and interpretive issues. Discussing the nature of Genesis, its creation and purpose and its position within the Hebrew Bible, the themes and theology of creation/uncreation and promise/impossibility, Warner culminates with a number of approaches in which Genesis can be read in the postmodern world, from intersectional and intertextual to political and ecological. With suggestions of further reading at the end of each chapter, this guide is an essential accompaniment to study of the Book of Genesis.

Generative Worlds New Phenomenological Perspectives on Space and Time
Free Download Generative Worlds: New Phenomenological Perspectives on Space and Time By Luz Ascarate; Quentin Gailhac
2023 | 161 Pages | ISBN: 1666914894 | EPUB | 1 MB
The first part of this collection, "Emerging Life," concentrates on the question of the origin in Husserlian phenomenology. The second part, "Generations," is focused on the concreteness of time. The last part of the book, "Homes," takes space rather than time as the most fundamental phenomenological concept.

General Relativity With Applications to Astrophysics
Free Download General Relativity: With Applications to Astrophysics by Norbert Straumann
English | PDF | 2004 | 674 Pages | ISBN : 3642060137 | 4.4 MB
Physics and mathematics students are as eager as ever to become acquainted withthefoundationsofgeneralrelativityandsomeofitsmajorapplicationsin astrophysics and cosmology. I hope that this textbook gives a comprehensive and timelyintroduction toboth aspectsof thisfascinating?eld, and willturn out to be useful for undergraduate and graduate students. This book is a complete revision and extension of my previous volume 'GeneralRelativityandRelativisticAstrophysics'thatappearedabouttwenty years ago in the Springer Series'Texts and Monographs in Physics'; however, it cannot be regarded just as a new edition. In Part I the foundations of general relativity are thoroughly developed. Some of the more advanced topics, such as the section on the initial value problem, can be skipped in a ?rst reading. Part II is devoted to tests of general relativity and many of its app- cations. Binary pulsars - our best laboratories for general relativity - are studied in considerable detail. I have included an introduction to gravi- tional lensing theory, to the extend that the current literature on the subject should become accessible. Much space is devoted to the study of compact objects, especially to black holes. This includes a detailed derivation of the Kerr solution, Israel's proof of his uniqueness theorem, and a derivation of the basic laws of black hole physics. Part II ends with Witten's proof of the positive energy theorem. All the required di?erential geometric tools are developed in Part III.

General Principles of Quantum Mechanics
Free Download General Principles of Quantum Mechanics by Wolfgang Pauli
English | PDF | 1980 | 222 Pages | ISBN : 3540098429 | 21.6 MB
I am very happy to accept the translators' invitation to write a few lines of introduction to this book. Of course, there is little need to explain the author. Pauli's first famous work, his article on the theory of relativity in the Encyklopädie der Mathematischen Wissenschaften was written at the age of twenty. He afterwards took part in the development of atomic physics from the still essentially classical picture of Bohr's early work to the true quantum mechanics. Thereafter, some of his work concerned the treatment of problems in the framework of the new theory, especially his paper on the hydrogen atom following the matrix method without recourse to Schrodinger's analytic form of the theory. His greatest achievement, the exclusion principle, generally known today under his own name as the Pauli principle, that governs the quantum theory of all problems including more than one electron, preceded the basic work of Heisenberg and Schrodinger, and brought him the Nobel prize. It includes the mathematical treatment of the spin by means of the now so well known Pauli matrices. In 1929, in a paper with Heisenberg, he laid the foundation of quantum electrodynamics and, in doing so, to the whole theory of quantized wave fields which was to become the via regia of access to elementary particle physics, since here for the first time processes of generation and annihilation of particles could be described for the case of the photons.

General History of the Caribbean Volume VI Methodology and Historiography of the Caribbean
Free Download General History of the Caribbean Volume VI: Methodology and Historiography of the Caribbean by B. W. Higman
English | PDF | 2003 | 1002 Pages | ISBN : 1403975949 | 265.3 MB
Volume 6 looks at the ways historians have written the history of the region depending upon their methods of interpretation and differing styles of communicating their findings. The authors examine how the lingual diversity of the region has affected the historian's ability to coalesce an historical account. The second half of the volume describes the writing of history in the individual territories, taking into account changes in society, economy and political structure. This volume concludes with a detailed bibliography that is comprehensive of the entire series.
