1 Timothy (New Covenant Commentary)
Free Download 1 Timothy (New Covenant Commentary) By Aída Besançon Spencer
2013 | 194 Pages | ISBN: 1556359918 | EPUB | 1 MB
A thorough and insightful commentary on Paul's letter to his coworker Timothy, which the Apostle wrote before and during Nero's persecution. Spencer carefully examines each part of the letter and relates it to the overall flow of the argument and in light of the larger biblical, historical, social, and cultural contexts. How Paul's writing related to the ancient communities is highlighted in the light of original data gleaned from her explorations on location in Ephesus and throughout Greece. In addition, Paul's rhetorical and ministry strategies, especially as they relate to women and their role in the church, are explored. Throughout, Spencer presents an in-depth exegesis in a readable format enhanced by forty years of ministry.

1 Corinthians 1–4 Reconstructing Its Social and Rhetorical Situation and Re–Reading It Cross–Culturally for Korean–Confucian C
Free Download 1 Corinthians 1-4: Reconstructing Its Social and Rhetorical Situation and Re-Reading It Cross-Culturally for Korean-Confucian Christians Today By Oh-Young Kwon
2010 | 316 Pages | ISBN: 1608994325 | EPUB | 1 MB
This book investigates 1 Corinthians 1-4 from a rhetorical and social perspective and explores that a divisive culture of rhetorical and paternal elitism lies behind the schisms and problems identified in the letter. This culture appears to have been shaped to some extent by the legacy of Cicero. Paul's references to "boasting" and "imitation" indicate both his subversive use, and his critique, of this Greco-Roman wisdom. In the final chapter, this analysis of wisdom traditions and their social consequences among first-century Corinthians leads to a critical reflection on similar dynamics among Korean Christians in twenty-first-century Korean-Confucian culture. In particular, Korean Protestants are encouraged to take a more positive stance towards Confucian wisdom traditions (as exemplified by T'oegye's legacy), and some insights are suggested into the ethics of imperial worship, ancestral veneration, and ethnic exclusivity.

1 & 2 Samuel An Introduction and Study Guide A Kingdom Comes (T&T Clark's Study Guides to the Old Testament)
Free Download 1 & 2 Samuel: An Introduction and Study Guide: A Kingdom Comes (T&T Clark's Study Guides to the Old Testament) By David Firth
2017 | 112 Pages | ISBN: 1350008958 | PDF | 1 MB
Scholarly study of Samuel continues to wrestle with how we interpret this pivotal text. Even such basic matters as the question of what kind of literature it is remain unresolved while older questions such as the nature of its text and sources are debated anew in the light of material from Qumran and of current approaches to Hebrew narrative. Recognizing the importance of questions such as these, David Firth explores and introduces fresh ways of reading Samuel as a unified and yet complex text, which displays high levels both of literary artistry and of theological commitment. Although some stories in the books of Samuel are well known, and in the case of David and Goliath even proverbial, much of the content of these books is strange to modern readers. It is a story about a woman wanting a child, for example, that relates the beginnings of monarchy within Israel. Even the question of the monarchy is problematic, for we are introduced to not one royal family but two-those of Saul and David. David is ultimately shown to be the king chosen by God, yet by the end of the book he is only just managing to hold on to the kingdom as it is nearly torn from him by rivalries within his family. These arresting stories are perplexing, for Samuel's writers seldom tell us how to read and interpret them. Firth presents these complex and fascinating stories as part of a bigger picture, enabling students to chart their way through the literary and historical issues of the Samuel narrative. Firth addresses issues of historicity, sources, date and authorship, as well as -- crucially -- appreciating the text as a literary whole.

1 & 2 Kings An Introduction and Study Guide History and Story in Ancient Israel
Free Download 1 & 2 Kings: An Introduction and Study Guide: History and Story in Ancient Israel By Lester L. Grabbe
2016 | 128 Pages | ISBN: 0567670856 | EPUB | 1 MB
Lester L. Grabbe provides a concise and up-to-date introduction to the books of Kings, covering all the historical and interpretative issues. Grabbe pays particular attention to how the history of ancient Israel can be reconstructed (or not as the case may be) through the text, and introduces students to the key ways of reading the books of Kings as religious and political history. Grabbe takes a chronological approach (according to the text) and provides overviews of the key periods of Israel's history. The nature of the 'Deuteronomistic History' and how well this theory of authorship stands up in the modern day is considered, as well as issues of form and source criticism more broadly. Grabbe concludes by offering a reflection on the books of Kings in theological and hermeneutical perspective, which enables students to view not only the historical and textual issues, but also broader issues of meaning and significance.

'Faith' is a fine invention Dickinson's Performance of Doubt and Belief
Free Download "'Faith' is a fine invention": Dickinson's Performance of Doubt and Belief By Regina Yoong
2024 | 136 Pages | ISBN: 9819996848 | EPUB | 1 MB
This book covers nineteenth-century American poet Emily Dickinson who captured the multifaceted nature of life in all of its uncertainties. Studies on her exploration of faith are ample, but in this book, the author uncovers Dickinson's playful role-play in enacting solemn themes of religion, death, and the unknown. Dickinson's creativity encompasses not only her use of language but also her poetic personae and self-created poetic stages inviting readers to question, contemplate deeply or even poke fun at life's absurdities. By using performative roles such as the rejected outcast, passive supplicant, and playful warrior, Dickinson unveils--through a paradoxical framework of belief and unbelief-- a line of inquiry that is multifocal and erratic to "tell all the truth and tell it slant."

Free Download Über sich hinauswachsen: Neid und Eifersucht als Chancen für die persönliche Entwicklung By Verena Kast
2015 | 184 Pages | ISBN: 3843606226 | EPUB | 1 MB
