Ahmad, "Molecular Mechanisms of Cockayne Syndrome" English | 2009 | pages: 131 | ISBN: 1587063212 | PDF | 1,6 mb Cockayne syndrome (CS) is a rare autosomal genetic disorder that was first identified almost 62 years ago by Alfred Cockayne and was named after him. The earliest publication record (PubMed) available is a paper by Marie et al in 1958. Since then 815 research papers including excellent reviews have been published (PubMed, December 2008), yet we are a long way from fully understanding the exact molecular mechanisms of this disease. Ironically, like many other inborn genetic defects, CS is still incurable; the mean life expectancy of the patients is 12.5 years. Major milestones in the study of CS were the discovery that the patients have a defect in DNA repair, the identification of the two complementation groups CSA and CSB, and the finding that CS cells were defective in the specialized pathway of nucleotide excision repair, transcriptional-coupled repair (TCR), that removes certain lesions from actively transcribed DNA. The editor of this book (SIA) has considerable interest in this field; recent studies have revealed a number of new enzymes (unpublished data) that may be responsible for the scavenge of ROS. Our future studies might show if deficiency of any of these newly discovered enzymes (as a result of genetic mutations) may lead to the neurodegeneration and other ROS-induced diseases. We hope that this book will stimulate both experts and novice researchers in the field with excellent overview of the current status of research and pointers to future research goals. The insights gained may also be valuable for the development of new therapeutic regimens for dealing with the clinical problems raised by this rare but devastating human condition. ![]() Free Download Moderne optische Spektroskopie: Von den Grundlagen bis zu Anwendungen in Chemie, Biochemie und Biophysik Deutsch | 2025 | ISBN: 3031520998 | 687 Pages | PDF (True) | 21 MB ![]() Free Download Modern Topics In Metrical Fixed Point Theory English | 2025 | ISBN: 9819807263 | 547 Pages | PDF (True) | 8 MB Metrical Fixed Point Theory, originating from the 1922 Banach Fixed Point Theorem, is one of the most dynamic areas within Operator Equations Theory. This book aims to discuss the foundational aspects of this theory, focusing on questions of existence, uniqueness, and approximation in operator equations ― whether explicit or implicit, anticipative or non-anticipative ― across standard, ordered, and relational metric spaces. Key themes include implicit methods for analyzing metrical contractions, factorial techniques for reducing coincidence point problems to standard fixed point ones, homotopical fixed point results in gauge spaces with ordered metric space parameters, and constant class reduction of PPF-dependent fixed point results. The book is structured into four chapters. Chapter 1 provides an overview of essential preliminary concepts. Chapter 2 delves into various contraction classes within bi-relational, local Branciari, and ordered metric spaces. Chapter 3 applies maximal techniques to address the discussed questions, and Chapter 4 explores additional topics, including contractive-type conditions derived from self and non-self maps. Through this structure, the book offers a comprehensive view of the core aspects and applications of Metrical Fixed Point Theory. ![]() Free Download Modern Tanks and AFVs: 1991-Present Armoured Fighting Vehicles (Technical Guides) by Stephen Hart, Professor Russell A. Papesh, Stephen D. Goldinger English | May 27, 2024 | ISBN: 3031548957 | 483 pages | MOBI | 10 Mb Pupillometry, the study of the eyes' pupils, has a rich history, dating back to the 1800s. For example, to appear "dark with desire," women once used atropa belladonna (deadly nightshade) as a cosmetic, because the atropine dilated their pupils, making them appear more romantically aroused. We now know that this relationship is largely driven by the activity of the sympathetic nervous system; specifically, a small brainstem nucleus known as the locus coeruleus (LC). Because of tight connections between the musculature of the eyes and LC, monitoring the pupils can reveal important insights into brain activity during mental processes. Many of these processes are related to attention and arousal (cognitive or emotional), with the LC controlling mental readiness via secretion of the neurotransmitter norepinephrine. While these complicated neurochemical processes happen in the brain, they are often overtly observable via pupil dilation. Although pupillometry was popular in the 1960s and 1970s, it fell out of favor until experiencing a renaissance approximately 10 years ago. With the advent of new eye-tracking and neural recording technology, measuring (and analyzing) pupil size is now easier than ever. Because all modern eye-trackers use pupil size in the calculation of gaze location, they also provide researchers with moment-by-moment pupil size measures in output files. Although previously considered "extra" data to support gaze location analyses, researchers have begun to conduct eye-tracking studies solely to gain access to pupil size data. These data have been used to study thought processes in many domains, including cognitive science, psychopathologies, business/marketing, security contexts, and the study of addiction. The diversity of interest in pupillometry is matched by the diversity in approaches taken to data collection, analysis, and interpretation. To date, there exists no book or tutorial review devoted specifically to ensuring that researchers carry out rigorous and reproducible work across these varied domains. Modern Pupillometry: Cognition, Neuroscience, and Practical Applications fills this gap by exploring the history, neuroscience, and methodological considerations of pupillometry research within and beyond psychology. ![]() Free Download Modern Pipefitter's Manual by Andrea L.
