Rum and Axes The Rise of a Connecticut Merchant Family, 1795–1850
Free Download Janet Siskind, "Rum and Axes: The Rise of a Connecticut Merchant Family, 1795-1850 "
English | ISBN: 0801439329 | 2001 | 208 pages | PDF | 29 MB
Janet Siskind goes back to the beginnings of industrial capitalism in the United States to better understand the formation of the country's capitalist culture. She studies the papers and letters of three generations of the Watkinson family. The stories of their lives demonstrate how merchants amassed the capital to become industrial entrepreneurs, organized factories and private corporations, and constructed philanthropic and cultural institutions. The author traces how "upper-class work," the everyday tasks of organizing and maintaining trade or a system of production, shaped the family's experience and New England's culture. The result is an intimate story of social class and capitalism.

Although discrete geometry has a rich history extending more than 150 years, it abounds in open problems that even a high-school student can understand and appreciate. Some of these problems are notoriously difficult and are intimately related to deep questions in other fields of mathematics. But many problems, even old ones, can be solved by a clever undergraduate or a high-school student equipped with an ingenious idea and the kinds of skills used in a mathematical olympiad.

Regeln der Jurisprudenz Die Grundsätze und Methoden der Rechtswissenschaft als professionelle Standards
Free Download Regeln der Jurisprudenz: Die Grundsätze und Methoden der Rechtswissenschaft als professionelle Standards By Bernhart, Christof
2008 | 176 Pages | ISBN: 3428128052 | PDF | 1 MB

Reds, Whites, and Blues Social Movements, Folk Music, and Race in the United States
Free Download Reds, Whites, and Blues: Social Movements, Folk Music, and Race in the United States (Princeton Studies in Cultural Sociology) by William G. Roy
English | July 21, 2010 | ISBN: 0691143633, 0691162085 | True EPUB | 296 pages | 2.8 MB
Music, and folk music in particular, is often embraced as a form of political expression, a vehicle for bridging or reinforcing social boundaries, and a valuable tool for movements reconfiguring the social landscape. Reds, Whites, and Blues examines the political force of folk music, not through the meaning of its lyrics, but through the concrete social activities that make up movements. Drawing from rich archival material, William Roy shows that the People's Songs movement of the 1930s and 40s, and the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 60s implemented folk music's social relationships-specifically between those who sang and those who listened-in different ways, achieving different outcomes.
