Golden, "Turks and Khazars: Origins, Institutions, and Interactions in Pre-Mongol Eurasia " English | ISBN: 1409400034 | 2010 | 380 pages | EPUB | 3 MB This second collection of studies by Peter Golden continues his explorations of the Türk Empire (mid-sixth to mid-eighth centuries), the stateless polities that appeared after its collapse, and of the Khazar Qaghanate (mid-seventh century to ca. 965-969), its imperial successor state in the western Eurasian steppes. Building on earlier traditions, the Türks created a paradigm for state building in the Eurasian steppes that persisted, with variations, into the early modern era. Examined here are issues relating to the origins of and myths associated with the rise of the Türks and the systems of governance in the Türk and subsequent Turkic polities of Eurasia. The institution of slavery and its role in Turkic nomadic societies receives significant attention. In addition, these essays document the cultural interactions between the Turkic nomads of pre-Chinggisid Eurasia and neighbouring settled societies such as the Kievan Rus', Georgia and the Islamic world. Included here are studies dealing with the hitherto neglected role of Khazars in the Islamic ghulâm (slave soldier) system. Special attention is paid to the unique traditions of sacral rulership among the Khazars and an examination of their conversion to Judaism set within a larger Eurasian context. ![]() Free Download Tucking In: A Very Comforting Cookbook by Sophie Wyburd English | June 13th, 2024 | ISBN: 1529909953 | 256 pages | True EPUB | 59.87 MB Simple, hearty recipes from the queen of comfort food ![]() Free Download Truckload of Art: The Life and Work of Terry Allen―An Authorized Biography by Brendan Greaves English | March 19, 2024 | ISBN: 0306924544, 9780306924521 | True EPUB | 560 pages | 90.2 MB The definitive, authorized, and first-ever biography of Terry Allen, the internationally acclaimed visual artist and iconoclastic songwriter who occupies an utterly unique position straddling the disparate, and usually distant, worlds of conceptual art and country music. ![]() Free Download Translation in the Performing Arts: Embodiment, Materiality, and Inclusion by Enza De Francisci and Cristina Marinetti English | 2025 | ISBN: 1032371544 | 264 Pages | True PDF | 2.4 MB ![]() Free Download Transactions on Pattern Languages of Programming V by Eugene Wallingford, Uwe Zdun English | 2025 | ISBN: 3662708094 | 308 Pages | True ePUB | 19 MB ![]() Free Download Transactions on Pattern Languages of Programming V English | 2025 | ISBN: 3662708094 | 306 Pages | PDF (True) | 17 MB The Transactions on Pattern Languages of Programming subline aims to publish papers on patterns and pattern languages as applied to software design, development, and use, throughout all phases of the software life cycle, from requirements and design to implementation, maintenance and evolution. The book argues that prophets' relics ritually and rhetorically shaped Muslim identities in the first centuries of Islam.Traces of the Prophets rewrites the history of holy bodies and sacred spaces in the emergence of Islam. Rather than focusing on theological controversies among early Muslims, this book is grounded in the material objects and places that Muslims touched and "thought with" in defining Islamic practice and belief. While often marginalized in modern scholarship, sacred relics and spaces stood at the disputed boundaries of emergent Islamic identities. Objects and spaces like Abraham's footprints in Mecca and Muhammad's tomb in Medina provided sites of shared Islamic ritual, as well as tools for differentiating Muslims from non-Muslims. ![]() Free Download Top 50 Rules of Investing: An Engaging and Thoughtful Guide Down the Path of Successful Investing Practices by Reed, Scott; English | 2024 | ISBN: 1636983758 | 226 pages | True EPUB | 5.33 MB ![]() Free Download Time to Think: The Inside Story of the Collapse of the World's Largest Gender Service for Children by Hannah Barnes English | July 2, 2024 | ISBN: 1634312600 | 500 pages | PDF | 4.43 Mb SHORTLISTED FOR THE BAILLIE GIFFORD PRIZE FOR NON-FICTIONSHORTLISTED FOR THE ORWELL PRIZE FOR POLITICAL WRITING"This is what journalism is for." -ObserverTime to Thinkgoes behind the headlines to reveal the truth about the collapse of the world's largest gender service for children."Are we hurting children?" That's the core question at the heart ofTime to Think, which exposes the truth about the rise and fall of the United Kingdom's flagship gender identity clinic for children. Answering in the affirmative, it exposes how ideology triumphed over evidence within this part of the healthcare system. In the process, child safeguarding was overlooked and pediatric patients were medically harmed. As investigative journalist Hannah Barnes reveals, the Tavistock's Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS) was set up initially to provide talking therapies to young people who were questioning their gender identity. But in a little over a decade, it referred around two thousand children, some as young as nine years old, for medication to block their puberty. In the same period, with ever-greater numbers of children in need of treatment, the profile of the patients changed from largely pre-pubescent boys to mostly adolescent girls, who were often contending with other medical and psychological difficulties. GIDS was shut down by English health authorities in March 2024 and new services will not be able to prescribe these profound medical interventions. Yet, GIDS's approach to treating children with gender identity distress was, in fact, more cautious than that observed in other countries- including, notably, in the United States. This urgent, scrupulous and dramatic book explains how GIDS was the site of a serious medical scandal. As this scandal continues to unfold and even accelerate within other institutions and across countries, it is a gripping parable and disturbing cautionary tale for our times. ![]() Free Download Time and Sense: Proust and the Experience of Literature by Julia Kristeva, Ross Guberman English | 2025 | ISBN: 0231216785 | 442 Pages | PDF | 3.3 MB |
