Inelastic Light Scattering of Semiconductor Nanostructures Fundamentals and Recent Advances
Free Download Inelastic Light Scattering of Semiconductor Nanostructures: Fundamentals and Recent Advances by Christian Schüller
English | PDF | 2006 | 182 Pages | ISBN : 3540365257 | 8.1 MB
Semiconductor nanostructures are a field of enormous and still-growing research interest. On one hand, they are already realized in mass products, e.g., in high-electron-mobility field-effect transistors and quantum-well lasers. On the other hand, they allow, in specially tailored systems, the investigation of fundamental properties, such as many-particle interactions of electrons in reduced dimensions. This book attempts to fill the gap between general semiconductor textbooks and research articles. It provides (i) an introduction into the basic concepts of inelastic light scattering on semiconductor nanostructures and into their fabrication and basic properties, and, (ii) a description of the most striking recent advances in this field. Each chapter is as self-contained as possible. The monograph should interest researchers, experimentalists as well as theorists, and research students working in the field. It should also be interesting for graduate students with knowledge in solid-state physics and quantum mechanics who are interested in optical spectroscopies of semiconductors.

Industrial Location and Site Planning
Free Download Industrial Location and Site Planning
English | 2025 | ISBN: 3031763602 | 689 Pages | PDF (True) | 201 MB
This book looks at the complexity of the topic of industrial site planning. Levels and actors are understood and discussed in terms of their mutual interaction. There is no stable "end state" in any industrial sector. At best, these are states of balance in motion. The aim is therefore, to show paths and phases of development that help to overcome stagnation thresholds and to explore the triggering moments for (new) dynamics. Technological justifications (such as AI, Industry 4.0, decarbonization) are only one dimension. Industrial policy, cooperation models - inter-communal for example in the case between market participants and producers, as well as integrative planning activities, both have socio-economic and ecological dimensions.

Indirect Methods of Data Collection and Analysis from Surveys
Free Download Indirect Methods of Data Collection and Analysis from Surveys
English | 2025 | ISBN: 9819760046 | 427 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 36 MB
This book provides a chronological, comprehensive, and up-to-date review of indirect methods of data collection from the human population such as randomized response, non-randomized response, item count, item sum, nominative, and negative questioning techniques. Such surveys include questionnaires on sensitive issues such as domestic violence, the history of induced abortion, involvement in fraud, plagiarism, affiliation with political parties, opinion of government policies, and religious practices, to name a few. The book also studies methods of drawing inferences from such data. The methods provided in the book can be applied to any complex survey design and a wide class of estimators. This book may serve as a handbook of indirect survey methodologies, as readers may receive a wide spectrum of materials from this book alone. Most of the randomized response (RR) techniques are described with the aid of diagrams so that readers can easily understand the randomization techniques, their applicability, and their complexity in real surveys. Applications of different indirect survey methodologies in various areas are presented.

India and Pakistan Continued Conflict or Cooperation
Free Download India and Pakistan: Continued Conflict or Cooperation? By Stanley Wolpert
2010 | 144 Pages | ISBN: 0520948009 | PDF | 1 MB
Beginning in 1947, when "India and Pakistan were born to conflict," renowned India scholar Stanley Wolpert provides an authoritative, accessible primer on what is potentially the world's most dangerous crisis. He concisely distills sixty-three years of complex history, tracing the roots of the relationship between these two antagonists, explaining the many attempts to resolve their disputes, and assessing the dominant political leaders. While the tragic Partition left many urgent problems, none has been more difficult than the problem over Kashmir, claimed by both India and Pakistan. This intensely divisive issue has triggered two conventional wars, killed some 100,000 Kashmiris, and almost ignited two nuclear wars since 1998, when both India and Pakistan openly emerged as nuclear-weapon states. In addition to providing a comprehensive perspective on the origin and nature of this urgent conflict, Wolpert examines all the proposed solutions and concludes with a road map for a brighter future for South Asia.

In Praise of the Bicycle
Free Download In Praise of the Bicycle By Marc Augé
2019 | 96 Pages | ISBN: 1789141389 | PDF | 1 MB
Witness the French anthropologist as we have never seen him before. Marc Augé coined the term "non-place" to describe the ubiquitous airports, hotels, and motorways filled with anonymous individuals. In this new book, he casts his anthropologist's eye on a subject close to his heart: cycling. With In Praise of the Bicycle, Augé takes us on a two-wheeled ride around our cities and on a personal journey into ourselves. We all remember the thrill of riding a bike for the first time and the joys of cycling. Here he reminds us that these memories are not just personal, but rooted in a time and a place, in a history that is shared with millions of others. Part memoir, part manifesto, Augé's book celebrates cycling as a way of reconnecting with the places in which we live, and, ultimately, as a necessary alternative to our disconnected world.

Improving Democracy Assistance Building Knowledge Through Evaluations and Research
Free Download Improving Democracy Assistance: Building Knowledge Through Evaluations and Research By National Research Council; Policy and Global Affairs; and Cooperation Security Development; Committee on Evaluation of USAID Democracy Assistance Programs
2008 | 336 Pages | ISBN: 0309117364 | EPUB | 1 MB
Over the past 25 years, the United States has made support for the spread of democracy to other nations an increasingly important element of its national security policy. These efforts have created a growing demand to find the most effective means to assist in building and strengthening democratic governance under varied conditions. Since 1990, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has supported democracy and governance (DG) programs in approximately 120 countries and territories, spending an estimated total of $8.47 billion (in constant 2000 U.S. dollars) between 1990 and 2005. Despite these substantial expenditures, our understanding of the actual impacts of USAID DG assistance on progress toward democracy remains limited-and is the subject of much current debate in the policy and scholarly communities. This book, by the National Research Council, provides a roadmap to enable USAID and its partners to assess what works and what does not, both retrospectively and in the future through improved monitoring and evaluation methods and rebuilding USAID's internal capacity to build, absorb, and act on improved knowledge.
