Immigration poses some of the major moral, economic, and political challenges of the twenty-first century. The Routledge Guidebook to Nietzsche's Thus Spoke Zarathustra (The Routledge Guides to the Great Books)
Free Download The Routledge Guidebook to Nietzsche's Thus Spoke Zarathustra (The Routledge Guides to the Great Books) by Matthew Meyer
English | September 12, 2024 | ISBN: 0415791073 | 352 pages | PDF | 4.97 Mb
The Routledge Guidebook to Nietzsche's Thus Spoke Zarathustra is an engaging introduction to this rich and provocative philosophical text. Nietzsche is arguably one of the most influential and yet least understood philosophers of the nineteenth century. The same can be said of his self-proclaimedmagnum opus, Thus Spoke Zarathustra. The work has influenced everything from poetry, literature, and music to philosophy, psychoanalysis, and soldiers on the battlefields of World War I. Its contents, however, are still far from being understood. On the one hand, the principal aims and even the genre of Zarathustra remain unclear. On the other hand, the work expresses, in poetic fashion, some of Nietzsche's most important, controversial, and enigmatic doctrines: the Üebermensch, the eternal recurrence of the same, and the will to power.

The Right to Know Transparency for an Open World
Free Download The Right to Know: Transparency for an Open World By Ann Florini (editor); Joseph E. Stiglitz (editor)
2007 | 376 Pages | ISBN: 0231512074 | PDF | 1 MB
The Right to Know is a timely and compelling consideration of a vital question: What information should governments and other powerful organizations disclose? Excessive secrecy corrodes democracy, facilitates corruption, and undermines good public policymaking, but keeping a lid on military strategies, personal data, and trade secrets is crucial to the protection of the public interest. Over the past several years, transparency has swept the world. India and South Africa have adopted groundbreaking national freedom of information laws. China is on the verge of promulgating new openness regulations that build on the successful experiments of such major municipalities as Shanghai. From Asia to Africa to Europe to Latin America, countries are struggling to overcome entrenched secrecy and establish effective disclosure policies. More than seventy now have or are developing major disclosure policies or laws. But most of the world's nearly 200 nations do not have coherent disclosure laws; implementation of existing rules often proves difficult; and there is no consensus about what disclosure standards should apply to the increasingly powerful private sector. As governments and corporations battle with citizens and one another over the growing demand to submit their secrets to public scrutiny, they need new insights into whether, how, and when greater openness can serve the public interest, and how to bring about beneficial forms of greater disclosure. The Right to Know distills the lessons of many nations' often bitter experience and provides careful analysis of transparency's impact on governance, business regulation, environmental protection, and national security. Its powerful lessons make it a critical companion for policymakers, executives, and activists, as well as students and scholars seeking a better understanding of how to make information policy serve the public interest.

The Rhyton from Danilo Structure and Symbolism of a Middle Neolithic Cult-Vessel
Free Download The Rhyton from Danilo: Structure and Symbolism of a Middle Neolithic Cult-Vessel by Omer Rak, Theresa Alt, Wayles Browne
English | February 28, 2011 | ISBN: 1842179772 | 208 pages | PDF | 3.81 Mb
The so called rhyton from Danilo, an archaeological site near the coastal town of Sibenik in Dalmatia, Croatia, is a four-legged Neolithic vessel made of fired clay that according to the consensus of archaeological opinion was most likely a cult vessel used in rituals of unknown origin and content. "Danilo Culture" is the eponymous name bestowed on a culture flourishing in the period from about 5500-4500 BC at Danilo and at some neighbouring sites. This culture had great influence along the eastern Adriatic coast and its hinterland and produced a significant number of these vessels. Rhyta, which other Neolithic cultures also made, were dispersed throughout a vast area of southeast Europe, from Greece to the Alps. This book is an in-depth study of that mysterious, prehistoric archaeological artifact which, due to its antiquity, structure and symbolism, has become a kind of universal proto-matrix for all relevant mythological and spiritual structures of the Mediterranean zone of later, historic times.
