Nuclear Energy Principles, Practices, and Prospects
Free Download Nuclear Energy: Principles, Practices, and Prospects by David Bodansky
English | PDF (True) | 2005 | 701 Pages | ISBN : 0387207783 | 5.8 MB
This second edition represents an extensive revision of the ?rst edition, - though the motivation for the book and the intended audiences, as described inthepreviouspreface, remainthesame. Theoveralllengthhasbeenincreased substantially, with revised or expanded discussions of a number of topics, - cluding Yucca Mountain repository plans, new reactor designs, health e?ects of radiation, costs of electricity, and dangers from terrorism and weapons p- liferation. The overall status of nuclear power has changed rather little over the past eight years. Nuclear reactor construction remains at a very low ebb in much of the world, with the exception of Asia, while nuclear power's share of the electricity supply continues to be about 75% in France and 20% in the United States. However, therearesignsofaheightenedinterestinconsideringpossible nuclear growth. In the late 1990s, the U. S. Department of Energy began new programs to stimulate research and planning for future reactors, and many candidate designs are now contending-at least on paper-to be the next generation leaders. Outside the United States, the commercial development ofthePebbleBedModularReactorisbeingpursuedinSouthAfrica,aFrench- German consortium has won an order from Finlandfor the long-plannedEPR (European Pressurized Water Reactor), and new reactors have been built or planned in Asia. In an unanticipated positive development for nuclear energy, the capacity factor of U. S. reactors has increased dramatically in recent years, and most operating reactors now appear headed for 20-year license renewals.

Not Much Left The Fate of Liberalism in America
Free Download Not Much Left: The Fate of Liberalism in America By Tom Waldman
2008 | 288 Pages | ISBN: 0520932862 | PDF | 1 MB
Tom Waldman's lively and sweeping assessment of the state of American liberalism begins with the political turbulence of 1968 and culminates with the 2006 takeover of Congress by the Democratic Party. Not Much Left: The Fate of Liberalism in America vividly demonstrates how the progressive and liberal wing of the Democratic Party helped end a war, won the civil rights battle, and paved the way for blacks, women, gays, and other minorities to achieve full citizenship. Through reportage, anecdotes, and analysis-particularly of the disastrous defeat of Democrat George McGovern in 1972-Waldman chronicles how the grand coalition that achieved so much in the 1960s began to self-destruct in the early 1970s. Citing the Republican recovery from Barry Goldwater's 1964 defeat, Waldman demonstrates how the two parties' very different reactions to electoral debacle account for recent Republican dominance and Democratic impotence. Assessing liberalism's fate through the Carter and Reagan presidencies, the defeat of Michael Dukakis in the 1988 presidential election, and the on-again, off-again liberalism of the Clinton years, Waldman then brings the discussion up to date with analysis of the 2008 presidential campaign.

Norms, Practices, and Social Change in Global Politics
Free Download Steven Bernstein, "Norms, Practices, and Social Change in Global Politics "
English | ISBN: 1009561014 | 2025 | 75 pages | PDF | 2 MB
Debate over how to recognize and understand change and continuity has long animated the field of International Relations. This Element brings norm-oriented and practice-oriented approaches into conversation to advance a wide-ranging account of change and continuity in global politics. It elaborates four scenarios in which norm and practice interactions produce change and continuity: relative continuity and a tight coupling of practices and norms; change through accidental incompetence; new competencies that create disjunctures; and change through deliberate contestation. It demonstrates the utility of the approach using empirical illustrations from the fields of global health and development. The Element also shows the wider applicability of the scenarios for major contemporary debates about change in global governance and security. This title is also available as Open Access on Cambridge Core.

Noncommutative Geometry and Particle Physics
Free Download Noncommutative Geometry and Particle Physics by Walter D. van Suijlekom
English | PDF (True) | 2015 | 246 Pages | ISBN : 9402401717 | 3.9 MB
This book provides an introduction to noncommutative geometry and presents a number of its recent applications to particle physics. It is intended for graduate students in mathematics/theoretical physics who are new to the field of noncommutative geometry, as well as for researchers in mathematics/theoretical physics with an interest in the physical applications of noncommutative geometry. In the first part, we introduce the main concepts and techniques by studying finite noncommutative spaces, providing a "light" approach to noncommutative geometry. We then proceed with the general framework by defining and analyzing noncommutative spin manifolds and deriving some main results on them, such as the local index formula. In the second part, we show how noncommutative spin manifolds naturally give rise to gauge theories, applying this principle to specific examples. We subsequently geometrically derive abelian and non-abelian Yang-Mills gauge theories, and eventually the full Standard Model of particle physics, and conclude by explaining how noncommutative geometry might indicate how to proceed beyond the Standard Model.

Non-Linear Optical Properties of Matter From molecules to condensed phases
Free Download Non-Linear Optical Properties of Matter: From molecules to condensed phases by Manthos G. Papadopoulos, Andrzej J. Sadlej, Jerzy Leszczynski
English | PDF | 2006 | 681 Pages | ISBN : 1402048491 | 8.5 MB
Non-Linear Optical Properties of Matter: From Molecules to Condensed Phases attempts to draw together both theory and application in this field. As such it will be of interest to both experimentalists and theoreticians alike. Divided into two parts, Part 1 is concerned with the theory and computing of non-linear optical (NLO) properties while Part 2 reviews the latest developments in experimentation.

New Type of Power System And Energy System
Free Download New Type of Power System And Energy System
English | 2025 | ISBN: 9819611113 | 339 Pages | PDF (True) | 33 MB
This book consists of nine chapters, with analysis and research from three perspectives: epistemology, methodology and practice. It aims to go through in-depth research on what the New Type of Power System (NTPS) is and how to build it, proposes the methodology, analyzes the relationships between the NTPS and the New Type of Energy System (NTES), as well as states the paths for building of the NTES with the NTPS. Notably, the book incorporates the development practice of State Grid and discusses the paths for promoting the building of the NTES with the NTPS.
