Preaching Must Die! Troubling Homiletical Theology
Free Download Jacob D. Myers, "Preaching Must Die!: Troubling Homiletical Theology"
English | ISBN: 150641186X | 2017 | 220 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
The real question for homiletics in our increasingly postmodern, post-Christian contexts is not how we are going to prevent preaching from dying, but how we are going to help it die a good death. Preaching was not made to live. At most, preaching is a witness, a sign, a crimson X marking a demolition site. The church has developed sophisticated technologies in modernity to give preaching the semblance of life, belying the truth: preaching was born under a death sentence. It was born to die. Only when preaching embraces its own death is it able to live. This book, then, is a bold homiletical manifesto against preaching in support of preaching, and beyond preaching to the entire worship experience. It troubles modern homiletical theologies in light of the trouble always already at work within preaching. Hereby, it supports a way of preaching-and teaching preaching-that moves counter to the "wisdom of this world." It aims to joins in God's self-revealed counterlogic of superabundance that saturates and thereby breaks open worldly systems of thought and practice. The purpose of this book is to expose preaching to its own death-to help it embrace its death-so that it can discover what

Preaching Jeremiah Announcing God's Restorative Passion
Free Download Walter Brueggemann, "Preaching Jeremiah: Announcing God's Restorative Passion "
English | ISBN: 150646601X | 2020 | 200 pages | EPUB | 3 MB
Preeminent biblical scholar and preacher Walter Brueggemann says the book of Jeremiah is not a sermon, but it does sound the cadences of the tradition of Deuteronomy that serve as sermons-that is, as expositions based on remembered and treasured tradition. In this volume, Brueggemann conducts an experiment in homiletics. He wants us to wrestle with the question, What if we allow the canonical shape of the book of Jeremiah to instruct us concerning the shape and trajectory of the sermon? More specifically, he wonders: What if the book of Jeremiah is treated as a long sermonic reflection about the traumatic events that led to exile and displacement for the people of Judah? Why did it happen? Is God faithful? Does God punish? Is there any future?

Pastoral care in rural communities is different from care in other locales. Small towns and rural areas have particular challenges, and in seeking to live out the Christian life in the midst of those challenges, local churches have unique and useful insights into what it means to care for one another.

Power and Politics in the Book of Judges Men and Women of Valor
Free Download John C. Yoder, "Power and Politics in the Book of Judges: Men and Women of Valor"
English | ISBN: 1451496427 | 2015 | 192 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
Power and Politics in the Book of Judges studies political culture and behavior in premonarchic Israel, focusing on the protagonists in the book of Judges. Although the sixth-century BCE Deuteronomistic editor portrayed them as moral champions and called them judges, the original bardic storytellers and the men and women of valor themselves were preoccupied with the problem of gaining and maintaining political power. These mighty ones were ambitious, at times ruthless; they might be labeled chiefs, strongmen, or even warlords in todays world.

Postmodernity and Univocity A Critical Account of Radical Orthodoxy and John Duns Scotus
Free Download Daniel P. Horan OFM, "Postmodernity and Univocity: A Critical Account of Radical Orthodoxy and John Duns Scotus"
English | ISBN: 1451465726 | 2014 | 144 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
Nearly twenty-five years ago, John Milbank inaugurated Radical Orthodoxy, one of the most significant and influential theological movements of the last two decades. In Milbanks Theology and Social Theory, he constructed a sweeping theological genealogy of the origins of modernity and the emergence of the secular, counterposed by a robust retrieval of traditional orthodoxy as the critical philosophical and theological mode of being in the postmodern world. That genealogy turns upon a critical pointthe work of John Duns Scotus as the starting point of modernity and progenitor of a raft of philosophical and theological ills that have prevailed since. Milbanks account has been disseminated proliferously through Radical Orthodoxy and even beyond and is largely uncontested in contemporary theology.

Portuguese | February 20, 2025 | ISBN: N/A | ASIN: B0DY35WMV2 | 109 pages | EPUB | 6.27 Mb
