Truth Be Told More Sermons for the Lectionary, Year B, Pentecost Through Christ the King
Free Download Bruce L Taylor, "Truth Be Told: More Sermons for the Lectionary, Year B, Pentecost Through Christ the King"
English | ISBN: 1666769010 | 2023 | 196 pages | EPUB | 746 KB
In his latest volume of sermons for the Common Lectionary (Revised), homilist Bruce Taylor has compiled more of his traditional and story form proclamations for the Sundays and feast days from Pentecost through Christ the King in Year B of the three-year lectionary cycle. Preached in various congregational settings, these sermons are theologically rich, sacramentally sensitive, biblically centered, and ecumenically minded, articulating God's love for all of creation and emphasizing the profound implications of discipleship as well as the urgency of compassionate and prophetic Christian witness in both word and deed. Truth Be Told, like its predecessors in Taylor's first and second journeys through the lectionary, will prove a welcome companion for preachers, educators, seminary students, and devotional readers, who will all find it to be an incisive and insightful exploration of the spiritual genius of the liturgical year and the unitive practice of preaching from common texts. The book exemplifies how preaching honestly and with integrity from Mark's Gospel and the accompanying lectionary readings can shape interaction with the elements of the liturgy to promote faithful Christian worship and prompt responsible Christian living.

Trusting the Word and Nothing Else at All Luther's Design for Evangelical Preaching
Free Download Perry Toso, "Trusting the Word and Nothing Else at All: Luther's Design for Evangelical Preaching"
English | ISBN: 1532660774 | 2018 | 210 pages | EPUB | 1483 KB
Preaching is as dangerous and as exhilarating as careening down some class IV rapids. It is dangerous because in the Old Testament, God prescribed the death penalty for preaching one's own opinion when called to speak God's Word. The pulpit is no casual or safe place! But preaching is also exhilarating because God places his creative, life-giving word right into your mouth. And though you don't know what will happen next, something that God appointed will definitely happen when you, the preacher, say what God authorizes you to say. This book is the result of over thirty years of wrestling with God's word. It expresses some of my astonishment over how faithfully God acts through preaching that word. Preaching is God's business. Mostly the preacher needs to get out of the way and let God do the talking. When that is the case, your hearers will tell you about it, and you will be less likely to miscarry in some of the myriad ways listed in this book. Hopefully, Luther's design for the way preachers bring that life-giving word of promise will encourage and promote and, once again, bring the same world-changing power that was let loose in the Reformation.

Trust in an Age of Arrogance
Free Download C Fitzsimons Allison, "Trust in an Age of Arrogance"
English | ISBN: 1498253326 | 2010 | 200 pages | EPUB | 724 KB
God is in the dock. Shall we convict him or forgive him? Shall we replace the God of Scripture with another of our choosing, mock and deride him, or ignore him? Shall we replace revelation with the chaos of speculation? We perceive ourselves, rather than God, as the center of the world and this universal condition leads to conflict with others and with God. Maintaining our center causes cheating, lying, litigation, divorce, wars, genocide, and human misery. Western civilization is giving up trust in the promise of God's mercy, justice, and forgiveness and replacing it with trust in the goodness of man. Jesus warned us to beware the teaching of the Sadducees and Pharisees. The Sadducees, who denied hope of eternal life, are a rough equivalent of our modern day secularists with their religious trust that this world is all there is. Replacing God with trust in flawed human nature is a mark of arrogance that even pagans would have characterized as hubris evoking divine wrath. The Pharisee's yeast of self-righteousness is a natural condition of us all. Even when cleansed it reappears in every tradition rendering forgiveness and transformation a promise only for those who think they have earned and deserve it. Such a distortion of God's word is congenial to our self-as-center, but it robs us sinners of the justice and mercy of a loving God. Following Jesus's warning we have the opportunity to wipe away the Sadducee arrogance and the Pharisee self-righteousness and discover anew the supreme power and joy of the Christian faith.

True Worship
Free Download Justin Miller, "True Worship"
English | ISBN: 1532687311 | 2020 | 90 pages | EPUB | 1472 KB
How is God to be worshipped? In our modern context there are so many approaches people take to the worship of God, both corporately as well as individually. The greatest issue the evangelical church faces in our time is not the decline in the morality of our society or even the secularization of our Western context; rather, it is the forsaking of the true worship of God. It is the neglect of living out a cherished doctrine of the reformation "Sola Scriptura." God is the object and consumer of worship. Therefore, his word given to us governs us in our worship of him. The people of Israel are told by Moses in Deut 12:32: "Whatever I command you, you shall be careful to do; you shall not add to nor take away from it." The Lord Jesus told the Samaritan women in John 4:24, "God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." God spells out with crystal clarity how his redeemed are to worship him. In True Worship we will explore what biblical worship of the triune God is and why it is crucial in our time and for all time.

Tobias Gaugler, Jennifer Kunz, and Amelie Michalke provide compact and comprehensible insights into TCA, which is one approach used to comprehensively assess actual (human or natural) resource consumption and implement this assessment into companies' internal controlling. To achieve this goal, the volume locates this approach in existing economic theory and shows its historical roots and progressions. The authors then present different methodological approaches within TCA and highlight how practitioners might implement these approaches in their business. To illustrate the importance of TCA, a number of practical examples that are already present in the market are also featured.

Troubadour of the Kingdom The Life and Times of J. Rufus Moseley, 1870-1954
Free Download Gregory S Camp, "Troubadour of the Kingdom: The Life and Times of J. Rufus Moseley, 1870-1954"
English | ISBN: 1532679793 | 2019 | 230 pages | EPUB | 5 MB
Joel Rufus Moseley (1870-1954) is one of the forgotten twentieth-century champions of American Pentecostalism. A brilliant scholar and university professor, he left the accolades of academia and searched a number of spiritual paths until he embraced Pentecostalism in 1910. Thereafter he began a lay ministry to the down-and-outs of society, openly campaigning against capital punishment, for racial desegregation, and above all else for living a life in the Holy Spirit he described as "Life as Love." He blazed a path that was to influence (and confound) many Pentecostal leaders of his time, provided an example to those who would lead what become known as the Charismatic Renewal, and enjoyed a life of joy one rarely encounters. A contemporary version of St. Francis of Assisi, Rufus Moseley shunned position, power, politics, religious titles, and seeking after wealth in favor of following simplicity and depth of spiritual life. Like his thirteenth-century counterpart, he lived a life of gratitude, of "littleness," and above all, love. Moseley offers encouragement as well as reproof to the contemporary charismatic movement to again seek the simplicity that is in Christ.

Triptych
Free Download April Vinding, "Triptych"
English | ISBN: 1498292550 | 2016 | 148 pages | EPUB | 493 KB
Faith is a container that holds a match: a puzzle, a flame, a fight. How do we make sense of God through human relationship? How do the layers of experience and theology interleave? How do the persons of the Trinity appear in the formative altars of our lives? With vivid imagery and a compelling lyric voice, Triptych grapples with the complications of the faith of incarnation and how their dimensions shift as we grow. Probing the implications of trinity, the memoir unfolds in three sections. "Fathers" wrestles through faith in childhood, trying to make sense of the lines of love and duty and how fathers represent a Father God. "Sons" chronicles blistered experiences of young adulthood: trying to find love and cope with sexuality when being faithful means a flame burns both human and divine. "Holy Ghosts" continues the stitching and colliding of human and divine relationships by confronting marriage and the Spirit as intimate, intervening, and intrusive.
