![]() Free Download The Oversight of Outsourcing US Intelligence After 9/11: Private Intelligence Contractors English | 2025 | ISBN: 303182041X | 452 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 6 MB This book is a story about Private Intelligence Contractors (PICs) and their relationship with the United States executive and legislative principals in the War on Terror when the line between the public and private sectors has been increasingly blurred. PICs have challenged the traditional approach which assumes that sensitive intelligence tasks should be performed by government officials because of their importance for national security. So this book examines the principal-agent relationship and the oversight problem between PICs, the US Intelligence Community (IC), the president and Congress after the 9/11 attacks. The book demonstrates that by exploiting information asymmetry, adversely selected PICs can violate legislative rules and goals such as by performing inherently governmental tasks, colluding with the IC, capturing the control of the task and contractual process, abuse, waste and fraud. In addition, to get around congressional oversight and achieve his or her hidden agenda, the executive principal can also mismanage contractors through the IC or delegate contractors to perform inherently governmental tasks. ![]() Free Download The Opening-Up of China's Financial Market: Policy and Empirical Analysis English | 2025 | ISBN: 9819803217 | 392 Pages | PDF (True) | 7 MB This comprehensive work is essential for understanding the dynamics of China's financial market liberalization and the strategic considerations driving this process. It was first published in Yugoslavia in 1955 based on the journal, letters, clippings, and other materials kept by the Hungarian-Jewish novelist Ervin Sinkó during his two years in Moscow between 1935 and 1937, years in which the Soviet cultural policy of the Popular Front was giving way to the Great Terror. Sinkó and his wife travelled to the home of socialism with great hopes. He had just completed his novel Optimists on the Hungarian Revolutions of 1918-1919 but could not find a ✅Publisher for it in Depression-era Paris. He went to Moscow at the urging of Romain Rolland and at the invitation of VOKS, both promoters of the Soviet Union as the center of a new civilization. Sinkó's optimism however soon gave way to grave doubts. Fearful ✅Publishers kept him in limbo and starving despite the support that Sinkó had from Béla Kun and Alfred Kurella of the Comintern. Sinkó deplored the over-centralization of cultural policy, attacks against the avant-guard, the forcing of Socialist Realism, the cult of Stalin, the reverses on abortion, the development of a privileged class of managers and Stakhanovist workers, and finally, the advent of the show trials. He tried to understand these developments through conversations with a great many people of the German and Hungarian communist diasporas, the visiting French Left, and local Russians among whom he was allowed to live. In the second year of his stay, the Sinkós shared an apartment with the writer Isaac Babel and his wife, Pirizhkova. The story of the tragic misunderstanding that ensued between the two men reveals much about Babel's difficult situation and about the limits of Sinkó's understanding of the Terror. The Sinkós were fortunate to be expelled from the country. But even back in France, Sinkó was prevented by his fear of the fascist threat from openly criticizing the Soviet Union. It was a miracle that the couple survived both the terror and the Holocaust. ![]() Free Download R. P. Buckley, "The Night Journey and Ascension in Islam: The Reception of Religious Narrative in Sunni, Shi'i and Western Culture " English | ISBN: 1848859864 | 2012 | 376 pages | PDF | 3 MB The night journey (isra') and ascension to heaven (mi'raj) is a singularly auspicious event in the biography of the Prophet Muhammad, and is one of the most popular religious narratives in Islam. Amongst other things, it is seen to confirm the Prophet as the final prophet, to explain how the five daily prayers were introduced to the Muslim community as a religious duty, and to give an early explanation of the concepts of heaven and hell. Here, R.P. Buckley explores the evolution and nature of the reception of the narrative of the isra' and mi'raj within a number of central themes, including the authentication of the journey, the manner in which it was performed, Shi'i tradition pertaining to the journey and the development of Western attitudes and approaches. It thus provides vital analysis for those involved in the research of early Islam and the history of religion in the Middle East. ![]() Free Download Tarek Cherkaoui, "The News Media At War: The Clash of Western and Arab Networks in the Middle East " English | ISBN: 178076104X | 2017 | 320 pages | PDF | 4 MB Tarek Cherkaoui reveals how geo-political and ideological legacies of the past, which divide the world into a dichotomy of 'us' against 'them', play a dominant role in reinforcing the ensuing polarisation of our media. ![]() Free Download Timothy Verdon, "The New Opera del Duomo Museum" English | ISBN: 8874612680 | 2024 | 147 pages | PDF | 69 MB The expansion ofthe Museo dell'Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore in 2013-15 was an opportunity to rethink the general role played by the Cathedral Foundation in promoting and preserving the monuments it oversees: the Baptistery of San Giovanni, the Cathedral or Duomo of Santa Maria del Fiore, and Giotto's Bell Tower. The decidedly narrative approach of the museum's new installation project suggested the need to 'narrate' the churches to which the works in the museum refer, and thus to consider the entire monumental complex of Piazza del Duomo an enormous museum, providing visitors with interpretative instruments that can offer insight into its main contents and stylistic elements. By the middleof that century, this cultural neo-Elizabethanism had become absorbedwithin a broader mainstream discourse of national identity, heritage andcultural performance. Taking strength from the Coronation of a new, youngQueen named Elizabeth, the New Elizabethanism of the 1950s heralded anation that would now see its 'modern', televised monarch preside over animminently glorious and artistic age. This book provides the first in-depth investigation of New Elizabethanismand its legacy. With contributions from leading cultural practitioners andscholars, its essays explore New Elizabethanism as variously manifestin ballet and opera, the Coronation broadcast and festivities, nationalhistoriography and myth, the idea of the 'Young Elizabethan', celebrations ofair travel and new technologies, and the New Shakespeareanism of theatreand television. As these essays expose, New Elizabethanism was muchmore than a brief moment of optimistic hyperbole. ![]() Free Download N Aleksidze, "The Narrative of the Caucasian Schism: Memory and Forgetting in Medieval Caucasia " English | ISBN: 9042936061 | 2018 | 268 pages | PDF | 88 MB In the early seventh century, the Georgian and the Armenian Churches separated. Since then, the two nations formed their distinct Christian cultures and national Churches. This also resulted in mutual antagonism, the repercussions of which are still observable in modern Caucasia - This is the prevalent narrative that one encounters in modern histories of medieval Caucasia. In the centre of this narrative lies the Schism - a watershed that divides the history of Caucasia into two chronological constituents, the era before and after. Indeed, the Schism is allegedly one of the most well documented events in Caucasian history, infinitely evoked and referred to in medieval Armenian historical accounts. The present study is an attempt to deconstruct this grand narrative by focusing on the formation of the narrative of the Schism, its central element. It argues that the narrative of the Schism was perpetually reconstructed and reinvented by medieval historians for the purpose of sustaining teleological continuity in their perception of the region's history. In the historical imaginaries of different medieval writers in different times and places, the Schism served as an interpretive tool in attempts to create a sound connection between the present and the forgotten past. The Schism was once again reinvented in contemporary Armenian and Georgia national discourses, and thence has made its way into scholarly studies. |
