Why Christians Should Not Tithe A History of Tithing and a Biblical Paradigm for Christian Giving
Free Download James D. Quiggle, "Why Christians Should Not Tithe: A History of Tithing and a Biblical Paradigm for Christian Giving"
English | ISBN: 1606089269 | 2009 | 174 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
The premise of Why Christians Should Not Tithe is simple: God, having freed his people from the Law through faith in Jesus Christ, does not place on them a burden from the Law. The thesis is equally as simple: Christian giving is not a tithe. Christ challenges the believer to give himself and his possessions to the gospel cause, but the tithe fixes a limit and implies nothing more is needed. Why Christians Should Not Tithe is a thorough discussion of the four tithes in Moses' Law, Jesus' comments on tithing, and the twenty-one principles of giving developed by the apostles' in Acts and the epistles. Included is a brief review of the history of tithing from post-apostolic times to the present. The book concludes with a new paradigm for giving not based on the tithe, but on the apostles' doctrine of Christian giving. Should Christians tithe to support the gospel? Here is a study that will help every Christian discover the biblical answer for him or her self.

Why Call It God Theology for the Age of Science
Free Download Ralph Mecklenburger, "Why Call It God?: Theology for the Age of Science"
English | ISBN: 1725284936 | 2020 | 166 pages | EPUB | 1485 KB
Why Call It God? contends that God is the order of the universe, including "divine intangibles" such as love, justice, beauty, and compassion, which correctly give us faith that our lives have purpose and meaning. The age-old problem of evil, science increasingly explaining how the world works when we used to turn to God and religion for answers, and rampant secularism have produced a decline in religion, though less a rebellion than simply a drifting away. We need to understand that God is the order of the universe and thus the ultimate source of life, meaning, and spirituality. Since no one fully understands the divine, all God talk is metaphorical and approximate. Many moderns mistakenly think they are religious doubters when in fact they are just holding on to personal metaphors for God as "king" and "judge" when they could, and most often do, believe in the awe-inspiring order of being, a conviction enhanced by science, religion, ethics, and the arts.

Who will defend Europe? The answer should be obvious: Europe should be able to defend itself. Yet, for decades, most of the continent enjoyed a defence holiday, outsourcing protection to the United States while banking an increasingly illusory 'peace dividend'. Now, after three decades of reducing armed forces and drawing down defence industries, Europe finds itself close to unprotected-while Russia is intent on continuing its war of expansion, and the US is distracted and divided.

English | ISBN: 1666708747 | 2021 | 262 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
What is our purpose in life? Is there an even grander story at work behind our salvation in Christ? Drawing on the reflections of early church writers and theologians, Who We Were Meant to Be invites the reader to consider the whole tapestry of God's plan from start to finish, culminating in a vision of all creation being restored and renewed as the temple of God's glory. Guided by the wisdom and insights of the patristic age, this book urges us to take up the mantle of our appointed role as royal priests, not only as a status to be enjoyed, but as a vocation to shape our entire lives. We have an open invitation to recapture the grand theological vision of Christianity's early centuries, and to step once again into the transfiguring light of who we were meant to be.

Serious Bible readers, including biblical scholars, Sunday Bible teachers, laypersons of church, and even the Sunday school kids, ask the question, "Is Balaam a good or bad person?" or "Is Balaam a prophet of God or a pagan diviner?" However, nobody has provided a relieving answer for the question up to this day. Then, what does the Balaam story in the passage of Num 22-24 tell us about the character of Balaam? More fundamentally, what does the passage want readers to know? This book suggests a new way for Bible reading, especially the Old Testament. The Old Testament readers can discover a proper strategy to understand the intention and message of every single passage of the Old Testament through the ways that are suggested in this book.

Who Do I Say That You Are Anthropology and the Theology of Theosis in the Finnish School of Tuomo Mannermaa
Free Download William W. Schumacher, "Who Do I Say That You Are?: Anthropology and the Theology of Theosis in the Finnish School of Tuomo Mannermaa"
English | ISBN: 1606083201 | 2010 | 214 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
The question of what it means to be a human creature lies at the heart of contemporary wrestling with anthropology, and especially anthropology from a theological perspective. Through both historical and systematic engagement with the so-called Finnish school of Tuomo Mannermaa, this study explores and assesses the anthropological dimension of their theology of theosis, or deification. Mannermaa initiated a minor revolution in Luther studies and in contemporary Lutheran theology by interpreting Luther's doctrine of justification to be a close analog to the Eastern Orthodox doctrine of theosis, but his ecumenical interests led him to minimize or overlook key themes in Luther and sharp distinctions between Luther and Orthodox theologians. Mannermaa's colleague Simo Peura then developed this thesis with specific reference to anthropology in a way reminiscent of the sixteenth-century reformer Andreas Osiander. On closer inspection, the project of Mannermaa and his Finnish colleagues fails to understand adequately both Luther's sources and his own theological development. In this study, a theological anthropology which is more consistent with Luther's theology is developed, an anthropology which is determined by God's address to his human creatures: what God himself says we are, and what he makes us by that word. Such an answer to the anthropological question refuses to flee from creation but instead upholds the complex and paradoxical nature of human beings as creatures, sinners, and saints.
