![]() Free Download Poems in the Porch : The Radio Poems of John Betjeman By Kevin J. Gardner; Kevin J. Gardner 2009 | 149 Pages | ISBN: 1441142185 | PDF | 1 MB Between 1953-57, John Betjeman read a series of poems on 'The Faith in the West' program airing on the BBC's West of England Home Service. This series, called 'Poems in the Porch, ' was so popular that Betjeman received constant requests to publish the poems. Although he deprecatingly referred to the poems as mere 'verses', Betjeman at last capitulated to the public. The result was a slim volume of six poems, entitled Poems in the Porch. What few people now realize is that Betjeman read at least 20 original poems on the radio in this series, perhaps even more, although owing to the haphazard records of both the BBC and Betjeman himself it is impossible to reconstruct with complete accuracy the history of this series. Kevin Gardner has been able to identify and collect 26 of these poems and has written a fascinating introductory essay recounting the story of Betjeman as a radio poet and discussing the artistry of these poems. Most have never been published and currently exist only in manuscript. We know for certain of 20 occasions when Betjeman read his poems on the 'Faith in the West' program, and of these we know 16 specific titles. Despite the gap between the BBC records on the one hand and the printed and manuscript texts on the other, Gardner has been able to construct a relatively reliable edition of Betjeman's Poems in the Porch. This book will cause a radical reassessment of his canon and will create great waved n the Betjeman community. The Pocket Guide to Addiction Assessment and Treatment is designed specifically to aid a wide range of clinicians, regardless of their training in addiction, to more confidently assess and treat this patient population. The book's practical, actionable content is divided into three sections -- Fundamentals of Addiction, Substances and Behaviors, and Treatment -- that address topics including: The neurobiology of addiction How to recognize and treat intoxication, withdrawal from, and addiction to substances such as alcohol, anabolic-androgenic steroids, benzodiazepines, cannabis, opioids, stimulants, and tobacco, as well as hallucinogens, inhalants, and caffeine Special issues with psychiatric and medical comorbidities, as well as with specific populations Behavioral addictions, with a special focus on gambling disorder Cognitive-behavioral therapy; 12-step programs; nutrition and exercise; spirituality, mindfulness, and meditation; and other treatment options, with examples of how each can be used with patients facing addictions With an accessible, easily referenced format, the Pocket Guide to Addiction Assessment and Treatment serves as a go-to resource for general psychiatrists, internists, family practitioners, pediatricians, emergency medicine physicians, psychiatric nurses, residents, medical students, and other practitioners involved in the addiction treatment field. Proceeding from an analysis of the historical and religious context, this study demonstrates the reductionist nature of the "two traditions" model, highlighting instead the complexity of ethnic identities and cultural traditions. It thus shows why attempts at reconciliation like the Good Friday Agreement of 1998, which seeks to promote the concept of a "parity of esteem" based on this identity model., are fraught with difficulties. Reflecting on the applicability of the concept of multiculturalism in the context of Northern Ireland, the author proposes a re-conceptualisation of Northern Irish culture along lines that steer clear of binary oppositions. From the Contents: 'Webs of Significance'; Dis-membering the Past; Divided by Common Cosmologies; A Discourse in Difference; The Process if 'Cruthinitude'; Un Unclaimed Tradition; Ethnic Nationality; The 'Fuzzy Frontier'; The 'Common Ground' ![]() Free Download Plant Nanotechnology Fundamentals and Methodologies (Nanotechnology in Plant Sciences) by Jameel M. Fuertes 2004 | 258 Pages | ISBN: 0826122558 | PDF | 1 MB This book presents a detailed description of a new group method called Planned Group Counseling (PGC). This method was created to cope with the very reluctant behaviors found in chemically dependent and psychiatric patients: lateness, irregular attendance, premature termination, and non-compliance with therapeutic directives. The book provides the readers with a step-by-step guide for implementing PGC, including plans and psychological exercises that are designed to further develop intra-and interpersonal skills. Detailed descriptions of interventions are also included to help the group leader with a variety of difficult behaviors.;chapter ![]() Free Download Placed People : Rootedness in G. K. Chesterton, C. S. Lewis, and Wendell Berry By David Harden 2015 | 156 Pages | ISBN: 1498206700 | EPUB | 1 MB Modern humans are given lots of labels. Some see humans as consumers: consumers of goods, services, and entertainment for the Economy. Some see humans as souls to be saved. Some say humans are destructive animals that must not think too highly of themselves at the peril of the planet. All of these often competing and contradictory labels beg the question: "What are people for?" This book locates the starting point for answering this question in a placed perspective, and examines what G. K. Chesterton, C. S. Lewis, and Wendell Berry have to show us in this regard. These authors' rooted perspectives challenge us to see our communities and ourselves differently. ![]() Free Download Piezotronics and Piezo-Phototronics: Applications to Third-Generation Semiconductors (Microtechnology and MEMS) by Zhong Lin Wang, Yan Zhang, Weiguo Hu English | July 25, 2023 | ISBN: 3031314964 | 584 pages | PDF | 29 Mb Co-authored by the discoverer of the piezotronic effect, this book is a fundamental and comprehensive survey of piezotronics and piezo-phototronics. Piezotronics is a term broadly applied to devices fabricated using the piezopotential as a "gate" voltage to tune/control charge carrier transport at a contact or junction. The piezo-phototronic effect describes the use of the piezopotential to control the carrier generation, transport, separation and/or recombination for improving the performance of optoelectronic devices. The book first introduces the theory of the piezotronic effect and its applications in transistors, sensors, and catalysis. Subsequent chapters comprehensively cover the fundamentals of the piezo-phototronic effect and its impacts on photon sensors, solar cells, and LEDs. ![]() Free Download Pictures at an Exhibition : A Petersburg Album By Philip Metres 2016 | 93 Pages | ISBN: 1629220248 | EPUB | 1 MB Wrestling with the questions of travel, memory, and perception, Pictures at an Exhibition: A Petersburg Album is, at its core, an unrequited love song to St. Petersburg. The fever dream of Peter the Great, Pushkin, Dostoyevsky, Gogol, and Akhmatova, St. Petersburg is the occasion for a broader meditation on all we come to love and lose. Pictures began as a journal notebook in 2002, as the poet tried to capture this spectacle-rich and memory-laden city that he had visited ten years before. Scored to the movements of Modest Mussorgsky's legendary suite-a work of art elegizing a lost friend, the artist Hartmann-Pictures marks, and sometimes sings, the incommensurability of word and world. ![]() Free Download Physiological Problems Of Bomber Crews In The Eighth Air Force During WWII by Major James J. Carroll English | August 15, 2014 | ISBN: N/A | ASIN: B06XG4Q627 | 48 pages | EPUB | 0.91 Mb Aviation physiology is a highly relevant field to flyers of unpressurized aircraft that flew at altitudes in excess of 25,000 feet. Crew members had to contend with severe environmental factors while flying long bombing missions during WWII. The limits of human physiology must be the main concern of any battle plan involving flyers and fatality/mortality rates should be the primary focus in evaluating the success or failure of such a plan. The purpose of this research project is to determine if human factors were overlooked intentionally or by accident. If they were overlooked unintentionally, then what was done to resolve the physiological problems of the aircrews? The project will also underscore the continued need to address the human machine during any plan in today's demanding aviation environment. |
