![]() Free Download Bureaus of Efficiency : Reforming Local Government in the Progressive Era By Mordecai Lee 2008 | 292 Pages | ISBN: 0874620813 | PDF | 1 MB Bureaus of efficiency were established in America as part of the civic reform agenda during the Progressive era at the beginning of the twentieth century. In some cities they were nonprofit agencies pushing for governmental reform from the outside. In other cities, efficiency bureaus were established by reformers as departments within municipal government, school districts or counties. The goal of such bureaus was to promote efficiency in local government, as a way of fighting political corruption, urban machines and political bosses. Efficiency bureaus sought to professionalize local government through civil service systems, open competitive bidding, separation of public administration from politics, and reorganizing departments to reduce duplication. Efficiency has remained a powerful siren call in American political culture in the twenty-first century. In that respect, little has changed conceptually from the days of the bureaus of efficiency nearly a century earlier. The bureaus may have died out, but not their underlying goal. This volume presents a detailed reconstruction of this phenomenon in American urban history. ![]() Free Download Building and Facilities Maintenance Management by Jason Challender, Robert Challender English | December 30, 2024 | ISBN: 1032415541 | 426 pages | EPUB | 12 Mb Building and Facilities Maintenance Management: An Innovative Operational Approach is a new introductory textbook aimed at students who are studying building maintenance and asset management for the first time as part of their undergraduate or foundation course. By focusing on different organizational models and considering both mechanisms pecuniary and non-pecuniary, the book aims to compare the theoretical assumptions and the managerial implications of the emerging open business models with the traditional closed innovation ones. The open business models are characterized essentially by the fact of encouraging innovation as part of the interactive co-creation process outside the boundaries of the firm. ![]() Free Download Building Green Software (1st Early Release) by Anne Currie English | 2023 | ISBN: 1098150617 | EPUB | 0.92 Mb How will software development and operations have to change to meet the sustainability and green needs of the planet? Cavadini 2014 | 128 Pages | ISBN: 1625642520 | EPUB | 1 MB American Catholic universities and colleges are wrestling today with how to develop in ways that faithfully serve their mission in Catholic higher education without either secularizing or becoming sectarian. Major challenges are faced when trying to simultaneously build and sustain excellence in undergraduate teaching, strengthen faculty research and publishing, and deepen the authentically Catholic character of education. This book uses the particular case of the University of Notre Dame to raise larger issues, to make substantive proposals, and thus to contribute to a national conversation affecting all Catholic universities and colleges in the United States (and perhaps beyond) today. Its arguments focus particularly on challenging questions around the recruitment, hiring, and formation of faculty in Catholic universities and colleges. |
