Free Download Sustainability of Water Resources: Impacts and Management by Basant Yadav, Mohit Prakash Mohanty, Ashish Pandey, Vijay P. Singh, R. D. Singh
English | PDF,EPUB | 2022 | 414 Pages | ISBN : 3031134664 | 100.1 MB
This book covers a wide spectrum of water resources management, including water supply and demand, operation and maintenance of water distribution systems, water quality assessment, impacts of climate change on hydrological extremes, and water governance. Rapid urbanization, industrialization, and population growth are the major factors contributing to a significant rise in water demands across all the sectors in India. Although the Indian Summer Monsoon Rainfall contributes primarily to the available surface and groundwater resources, recurrent non-uniform/erratic rainfall events have resulted in widespread water scarcity. On many occasions, extreme meteorological conditions trigger the severity of water-related disasters such as floods and droughts. The untreated wastewater from domestic and industrial sources discharged through un-engineered means, adds to the issue as it ends up polluting the surface and groundwater resources.

Free Download Suicide by Proxy in Early Modern Germany: Crime, Sin and Salvation by Kathy Stuart
English | EPUB (True) | 2023 | 480 Pages | ISBN : 3031252438 | 112.3 MB
Suicide by Proxy became a major societal problem after 1650. Suicidal people committed capital crimes with the explicit goal of "earning" their executions, as a short-cut to their salvation. Desiring to die repentantly at the hands of divinely-instituted government, perpetrators hoped to escape eternal damnation that befell direct suicides. Kathy Stuart shows how this crime emerged as an unintended consequence of aggressive social disciplining campaigns by confessional states. Paradoxically, suicide by proxy exposed the limits of early modern state power, as governments struggled unsuccessfully to suppress the tactic. Some perpetrators committed arson or blasphemy, or confessed to long-past crimes, usually infanticide, or bestiality. Most frequently, however, they murdered young children, believing that their innocent victims would also enter paradise. The crime had cross-confessional appeal, as illustrated in case studies of Lutheran Hamburg and Catholic Vienna.

Free Download Studies of Epithelial Transporters and Ion Channels: Ion Channels and Transporters of Epithelia in Health and Disease - Vol. 3, Second Edition by Kirk L. Hamilton
English | EPUB | 2020 | 1267 Pages | ISBN : 3030554538 | 115.4 MB
This book discusses unique ion channels and transporters that are located within epithelial tissues of various organs including the kidney, intestine, pancreas and respiratory tract. The authors will show, that each of these channels and transporters play crucial roles in transepithelial ion and fluid transport across epithelia and their responsibility in maintaining homeostasis. The reader gains an understanding of the fundamentals of epithelial ion transport, in terms of function, modelling, regulation, trafficking, structure and pharmacology. This is the third of three volumes highlighting the importance of epithelial ion channels and transporters in basic physiology and pathophysiology of human diseases.

Free Download Steam Generators: Description and Design by Donatello Annaratone
English | PDF (True) | 2008 | 434 Pages | ISBN : 3540777148 | 14.9 MB
The content of this book originates from 35 years of teaching "steam generators" to graduate students at the Politecnico of Milan, Milan, Italy, and from 45 years of professional activity in this area - rst in industry and then as founder of a design and consulting company. Beforediscussingthecontentofthetextbook,Iwouldliketopresenttherationale for the title. Boilers are machines consisting of steam-generating tubes only, that is, of internal and external tubes where water is transformed into saturated steam. Steam generators - or, simply, generators - indicate machines equipped with one or more of the following components: superheaters, reheaters, economizers, and air heaters - besides the steam-generating tubes that make up the boiler. Finally, those machines with tubes, where instead of water, a diathermic uid ows inside, are also called boilers, for their construction is similar to that of the latter. The above notwithstanding, the term "boiler" is used even when hot water or superheated water is produced instead of steam. Large systems designed to produce electricity have all components indicated above in addition to the boiler. In medium size systems, some of these components are always present, whereas in small ones a regenerator is frequently and approp- ately included. It is therefore justi ed to use "steam generators" as title, because it best matches the actual makeup of these systems.

Free Download Spores: Tulips with Fever, Rusty Coffee, Rotten Apples, Sad Oranges, Crazy Basil. Plant Diseases that Changed the World as Well as My Life by Maria Lodovica Gullino
English | EPUB | 2021 | 275 Pages | ISBN : 3030699943 | 153.1 MB
This book aims to describe, though in a quite light way, the social role of plant diseases, letting the reader know the topical importance of plant pathology, as well as the role of plant pathologists in our society. Plant diseases caused, in the past, significant economic losses, deaths, famine, wars, and migration. Some of them marked the history of entire countries. One example among many: the potato late blight in Ireland in 1845. Today plant diseases are still the cause of deaths, often silent, in developing countries, and relevant economic losses in the industrialized ones.

Free Download Solution of Variational Inequalities in Mechanics by I. Hlaváček , J. Haslinger , J. Nečas , J. Lovíšek
English | PDF |1988 | 285 Pages | ISBN : 0387965971 | 15.7 MB
The idea for this book was developed in the seminar on problems of con tinuum mechanics, which has been active for more than twelve years at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University, Prague. This seminar has been pursuing recent directions in the development of mathe matical applications in physics; especially in continuum mechanics, and in technology. It has regularly been attended by upper division and graduate students, faculty, and scientists and researchers from various institutions from Prague and elsewhere. These seminar participants decided to publish in a self-contained monograph the results of their individual and collective efforts in developing applications for the theory of variational inequalities, which is currently a rapidly growing branch of modern analysis. The theory of variational inequalities is a relatively young mathematical discipline. Apparently, one of the main bases for its development was the paper by G. Fichera (1964) on the solution of the Signorini problem in the theory of elasticity. Later, J. L. Lions and G. Stampacchia (1967) laid the foundations of the theory itself. Time-dependent inequalities have primarily been treated in works of J. L. Lions and H. Bnlzis. The diverse applications of the variational in equalities theory are the topics of the well-known monograph by G. Du vaut and J. L. Lions, Les iniquations en micanique et en physique (1972).

Free Download Solid Mechanics: Theory, Modeling, and Problems by Albrecht Bertram , Rainer Glüge
English | PDF (True) | 2015 | 331 Pages | ISBN : 33319195654 | 4.1 MB
This textbook offers an introduction to modeling the mechanical behavior of solids within continuum mechanics and thermodynamics. To illustrate the fundamental principles, the book starts with an overview of the most important models in one dimension. Tensor calculus, which is called for in three-dimensional modeling, is concisely presented in the second part of the book. Once the reader is equipped with these essential mathematical tools, the third part of the book develops the foundations of continuum mechanics right from the beginning. Lastly, the book's fourth part focuses on modeling the mechanics of materials and in particular elasticity, viscoelasticity and plasticity. Intended as an introductory textbook for students and for professionals interested in self-study, it also features numerous worked-out examples to aid in understanding.
