Free Download Jim Thompson, "Sing Loud, Die Happy: An Exploration of How God's Gift of Song Is Meant to Change Us"
English | ISBN: 166674087X | 2022 | 154 pages | EPUB | 952 KB
Singing is one of the most repeated commands in Holy Scripture. It's right up there with "believe" and "do not fear." But commands like these can feel vaguely spiritual, intangible, or esoteric. You might not know if you're doing them right. Not so with singing. You just open your mouth and make it happen. And when we do, we often get the sense that God is up to something, that he has designed singing to change us. But how?

Free Download Sin City Gangsters: The Rise and Decline of the Mob in Las Vegas by Jeffrey Sussman author of Sin City Gangsters Boxing and the Mob and Big Apple Gangsters
English | January 15, 2023 | ISBN: 1538161230 | 230 pages | PDF | 2.88 Mb
Sin City Gangsters: The Rise and Decline of the Mob in Las Vegas is a fast-paced account of how the mob created and controlled Las Vegas. It contains accounts of how the most powerful mobsters in the country built, bought, and controlled not only gambling casinos in Vegas, but also many important politicians, who did the mob's bidding. Some of the more notorious mobsters were Bugsy Siegel, Meyer Lansky, Moe Dalitz, Sam Giancana, Tony Accardo, and Nick Civella, as well as the men they chose to carry out their plans, such as Tony Spilotro, Lefty Rosenthal, and Donald Angelini. Sin City Gangsters devotes a chapter to Jimmy Hoffa, and how the Teamsters Pension Fund financed the mob's casinos. The book also offers fascinating accounts of the roles of Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley in Vegas. Another chapter is devoted to Howard Hughes, who arrived in the dead of night in a sealed, germ-free railroad car and did not leave his suite at the Desert Inn for years. During that time he bought one casino after another as if playing Monopoly. Following his exit and that of the mob, Vegas became the domain of Jay Sarno, Kirk Kerkorian, Steve Wynn, and Sheldon Adelson. They were visionaries who transformed Vegas into the entertainment capital of the world by building billion-dollars-plus resorts and hiring the most popular contemporary entertainers. Sin City Gangsters is the only book that charts Vegas from the first modest mob-owned casinos to the present billion-dollar-resorts; its cast of characters is an assembly of exceedingly ambitious risk takers who let nothing stand in their way of turning their dreams into stunning realities.

Free Download Simulating the Brain: A Four-Step Method Using Ordinary Differential Equations and Python
English | 2025 | ISBN: 9819627176 | 304 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 77 MB
This book presents a new methodology to develop system-level brain models using ordinary differential equations (ODE), which are to be solved and analyzed through simple Python scripts. Computer simulations of this kind of models allow the study of healthy and damaged brain functions, the discovery of new neural pathways that may be crucial for the emergence of pathologies, and to simulate the effects of possible new therapies acting on brain actors which are difficult to investigate in traditional research. The methodology consists of four steps: (i) design the model architecture which represents the interactions between different brain areas; (ii) write the ODE system which are implied by the model; (iii) build a Python script that correctly solves the equations; (iv) optimize the free model parameters using genetic algorithms or other techniques to obtain one or more model instances that reproduce the target investigated behavior. This book is for all people who want to learn how to use Python and ODE to simulate brain functions regardless of their backgrounds. While rigorous mathematical proofs of many aspects of the arguments discussed are out of the scope of this work and are therefore omitted, the most important concepts necessary for the critical judgment and self-assessment of the practitioner's work are exposed in a simplified, readily applicable form, with extensive references for the adventurous reader to explore. The book is a self-consistent textbook containing all pieces necessary to learn from scratch: from the essential mathematical and computing tools to the knowledge necessary to design, simulate, visualize, and interpret brain models. These skills are acquired through several hands-on examples explained step-by-step. One important and distinctive aspect of the book is that, beside the theory, it provides the necessary contexts and practical examples which are key to the correct application of the proposed methodology.

Free Download Silent Dilemmas of Project Managers: Solving the Existential Puzzle by Matija Radomir Djolic
English | November 1, 2024 | ISBN: 1805398040 | 208 pages | MOBI | 3.26 Mb
A fastidious investigation into the nature of self-identity, Silent Dilemmas of Project Managers uses the context of project management to challenge the perceived separation of objective experience from subjective perception. Positioning self-identity as the basis of one's ongoing being-in-the-world, Djolic explores the relationship between our inner dialogues and the surrounding world, highlighting the problematic role our adopted self-notions play in producing negative experiences. In doing so, we are presented with a compelling case for viewing the subject's self as the object of existential anxiety, as well as a framework for more comprehensive, existential therapy within business settings.

Free Download Signs of New Life: Homilies on the Church's Sacraments By Joseph Ratzinger, Pope Benedict XVI
2020 | 135 Pages | ISBN: 1621642976 | EPUB | 1 MB
At life's many crossroads, the sacraments of the Church-Baptism, Confirmation, Confession, Holy Eucharist, Matrimony, Holy Orders, and Anointing of the Sick-bring people into contact with the saving work of God. In this collection of homilies, Joseph Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI) explains these celebrations of the Church and shows how they always offer an opportunity to announce our faith in Christ and to deepen our understanding of it. Ratzinger endeavored as a theologian to develop an understanding of the sacraments that would help to make participation in them, and in the Paschal Mystery, more fruitful. Many of these homilies connect the sacraments with a profound interpretation of Scripture. The scriptural passages interpreted in each homily are listed at the beginning of the chapter, so that this volume can also be used for scriptural meditation.Since the Church herself is both a sacrament-that is, a sign of God's saving action in the world-and the place where the sacraments take place, two of the chapters are about the Church, the body of believers where God dwells.
