Free Download A Systems-Centered Approach to Inpatient Group Psychotherapy By Yvonne M. Agazarian
2001 | 159 Pages | ISBN: 1853029173 | PDF | 1 MB
Systems-centered therapy is theory driven, therefore every intervention is in fact an hypothesis that tests both the validity of the theory and the reliability of its practice as it applies to short and long-term therapy with individuals, families, couples and groups. This book is built around the transcript of an inpatient therapy session, giving the reader the opportunity to follow verbatim how systems-centered therapy actually works. The script tracks the initial techniques that introduce systems-centered norms to a group. These include encouraging patients to explore their experience instead of explaining it, and to join together in subgroups around the common human resistances that interfere with being able to do therapeutic work. Wherever appropriate, the author annotates the script with the rational behind a particular method. Other chapters give an overview of the systems-centered ideas, their formulation as a theory of living human systems, and the systems-centered methods of boundarying, vectoring, contextualizing and functional subgrouping that put the theory into practice. Agazarian's book is an important text for all those who are interested in applying systems thinking to therapy, and, with its many practical examples, particularly useful to those who are interested in using systems-centered techniques.

Free Download A Stranger in Jerusalem: Seeing Jesus as a Jew by Trevan G. Hatch
English | June 26, 2019 | ISBN: 1532646704 | 312 pages | PDF | 5.80 Mb
In A Stranger in Jerusalem, Trevan Hatch attempts to situate the stories about Jesus within their Jewish context. Jesus was a Jew, his friends were Jews, his first followers were Jews, he studied the Hebrew Scriptures (either orally or from texts), he worshiped in the synagogue, and he occasionally traveled to Jerusalem to observe the Israelite festivals. Hatch illustrates that Jesus does not seem to have rejected Judaism or acted as a radical outsider in relation to his Jewish peers, but rather he worked within a Jewish framework.

Free Download A Shameful Business : The Case for Human Rights in the American Workplace By James A. Gross
2011 | 261 Pages | ISBN: 0801458684 | PDF | 1 MB
In a book that confronts the moral choices that U.S. corporations make every day in the treatment of their workers, James A. Gross issues a clarion call for the transformation of the American workplace based on genuine respect for human rights, rather than whatever the economic and regulatory landscape might allow. Gross questions the nation's underlying fabric of values as reflected in its laws and our assumptions about workers and the workplace.Arguing that our market philosophy is incompatible with core principles of human rights, he forces readers to realign the country's labor policies so that they conform with the highest international human rights standards. To make his case, Gross assesses various aspects of U.S. labor relations-freedom of association, racial discrimination, management rights, workplace safety, and human resources-through the lens of internationally accepted human rights principles as standards of judgment. His findings are chilling. "Employers who maintain workplaces that require men and women and sometimes even children to risk their lives and endanger their health and eyes and limbs in order to earn a living are treating human life as cheap and are seeking their own gain through the desecration of human life," Gross argues, and such behavior should be considered as crimes against humanity rather than matters of efficiency, productivity, or morale.By revealing how truly unacceptable management's "best practices" can be when considered as human rights issues, A Shameful Business encourages a bold new vision for workers, whether organized or not, that would signify a radical rethinking of social values and the concept of workplace rights and justice in the courtroom, the boardroom, and on the shop floor.

Free Download A Review of the Draft Report of the NCI-CDC Working Group to Revise the 1985 Radioepidemiological Tables By National Academy of Sciences; Commission on Life Sciences; Board on Radiation Effects Research; Committee on an Assessment of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Radiation Studies from DOE Contractor Sites: Subcommittee to Review Radioepidemio
2001 | 63 Pages | ISBN: 0309072506 | EPUB | 1 MB
The National Research Council was asked by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to review the draft report of the National Cancer Institute (NCI)-CDC's working group charged with revising the 1985 radioepidemiological tables. To this end, a subcommittee was formed consisting of members of the Council's Committee on an Assessment of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Radiation Programs and other experts. The original tables were mandated under Public Law 97-414 (the "Orphan Drug Act") and were intended to provide a means of estimating the probability that a person who developed any of a series of radiation-related cancers, developed the cancer as a result of a specific radiation dose received before the onset of the cancer. The mandate included a provision for periodic updating of the tables. The motivation for the current revision reflects the availability of new data, especially on cancer incidence, and new methods of analysis, and the need for a more thorough treatment of uncertainty in the estimates than was attempted in the original tables.
