Free Download Interdisciplinary Rheumatology: Rheumatology and Pulmonology by Marcy B. Bolster, Kristin B. Highland
English | March 10, 2025 | ISBN: 1032421452 | 304 pages | MOBI | 13 Mb
Certain diseases may involve organ systems that cross the boundaries of specialties. For instance, a patient with scleroderma can develop interstitial lung disease, or a patient with relapsing polychondritis can have the clinical manifestation of subglottic stenosis. This book represents a collaboration between specialties, helping clinicians recognize the implications of disease both within their own specialty and in the overlapping specialty. Here, leading experts from the fields of rheumatology and pulmonology provide a masterclass in the care of patients with systemic illnesses that involve the immune system and the lungs.

Free Download Cecilea Mun, "Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Shame: Methods, Theories, Norms, Cultures, and Politics"
English | ISBN: 1498561365 | 2019 | 240 pages | PDF | 2 MB
Shame is one of the most stigmatized and stigmatizing of emotions. Often characterized as an emotion in which the subject holds a global, negative self-assessment, shame is typically understood to mark the subject as being inadequate in some way, and a sizable amount of work on shame focuses on its problematic or unhealthy aspects, effects, or consequences. Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Shame reorients readers to a more balanced understanding of what shame is, as well as its value and social function. The contributors recognize shame as a complex, richly layered, conscious or unconscious phenomenon, and the collection offers an understanding of how theories of shame can help or hinder us in understanding ourselves, others, and the world around us. It also highlights how a diverse range of perspectives on shame can enlighten our understanding of both the positive and negative aspects of this powerful emotion. Edited by Cecilea Mun, these chapters by an international group of scholars reflect a broad range of methods, disciplinary perspectives, and both theoretical and practical concerns regarding shame.

Free Download Sherma Roberts, "Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Covid-19 and the Caribbean, Volume 1: The State, Economy and Health"
English | ISBN: 3031308883 | 2023 | 611 pages | EPUB | 10 MB
Caribbean countries have had to navigate multiple crises, which have tested their collective resolve through time. In this regard, the region's landscape has been shaped by an interplay of vulnerability and resilience which has brought to the fore possibilities and contradictions. It is within this context that the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic must be considered. Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Covid-19 and the Caribbean, Volume 1: The State, Economy and Health provides a comprehensive, multi- and interdisciplinary assessment of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, using the Caribbean as the site of enquiry. The edited collection mobilises critical perspectives brought to bear on research produced within and beyond the boundaries and boundedness of conventional academic disciplinary divides, in response to the multi-dimensional crises of our time. The culmination of this collection offers a reimagining of our Caribbean contemporary futures in the hope of finding home-grown solutions, avenues and possibilities. This volume is divided into five (5) parts consisting of twenty-four (24) chapters and weaves together thematic strands that focus on governance, the macro and micro aspects of the economy, tourism and hospitality, business management and public health policy. Together, the chapters in this volume tell the story of the extent and effects of Caribbean governments' response to the pandemic and the ways in which industries and organisations have had to pivot to survive and transform their management and operational practices.

Free Download Karin Bijsterveld, "Interdisciplinarity in the Scholarly Life Cycle: Learning by Example in Humanities and Social Science Research"
English | ISBN: 3031111079 | 2023 | 353 pages | EPUB | 6 MB
This open access book illustrates how interdisciplinary research develops over the lifetime of a scholar: not in a single project, but as an attitude that trickles down, or spirals up, into research. This book presents how interdisciplinary work has inspired shifts in how the contributors read, value concepts, critically combine methods, cope with knowledge hierarchies, write in style, and collaborate. Drawing on extensive examples from the humanities and social sciences, the editors and chapter authors show how they started, tried to open up, dealt with inconsistencies, had to adapt, and ultimately learned and grew as researchers. The book offers valuable insights into the conditions and complexities present for interdisciplinary research to be successful in an academic setting.

Free Download Neda Chepinchikj, "Interactional Approach to Cinematic Discourse: How Do Woody Allen's Characters Talk?"
English | ISBN: 3031009444 | 2022 | 289 pages | EPUB | 8 MB
This book analyses and describes a segment of Woody Allen's cinematic discourse, focusing specifically on the performed (or diegetic) interactions between actors in various roles in some of his films. It is a case study of Woody Allen's cinematic discourse, encompassing the on-screen, performed interaction in the films at the level of the story-world. The analysis focuses on speech (film dialogues), in both its verbal and prosodic forms, as well as non-verbal types of interaction including gaze and gesture, taking a social interactional approach and using multimodal conversation analysis as a theoretical framework and analytical tool. The 'texts' under study are segments from five films by Woody Allen, and the analysed interactions take place between male and female interactants, which allows further examination of on-screen interactions via a gender lens. The book aims to bridge the gap between the disciplines of applied linguistics and cinema studies andoffer linguistic insights into performed interactions from a multimodal point of view. It will be equally relevant to linguists who are interested in how verbal and non-verbal language is used in cinematic discourse, as well as to film workers, especially actors, directors and screenwriters.
