Free Download Design of Fibre-Polymer Composite Structures by Thomas Keller, Jan Knippers
English | June 18, 2025 | ISBN: 103270683X | 872 pages | PDF | 49 Mb
This book comprises around 400 background reports covering the most relevant paragraphs of the Technical Specification. It provides supplementary information to the Technical Specification, justifies the options that were followed and introduces references that were considered. Among other aspects, this makes it possible to assess the basis of design, the values adopted for partial factors, conversion factors and creep coefficients, provisions for structural analysis, resistance models for structural members, connections and joints, and provisions for durability and detailing. The book also identifies research needs in this field to increase knowledge of the behaviour of fibre-polymer composite structures and for possible future development of the Technical Specification towards a Eurocode standard.

Free Download Depression, Trauma, and Anxiety: In Management and Public Affairs by Sven J. Matten, Markus J. Pausch
English | August 28, 2024 | ISBN: 3658454318 | 156 pages | MOBI | 0.40 Mb
The collective term used by the authors, "stress spectrum disorder", explains the major causal factors that determine and maintain symptoms of physical and psychological overload. Specific recommendations are given for those who suffer from symptoms or have already been diagnosed with a psychological disorder. Special attention is given to people in the public eye, such as managers or executives. The explanatory, conditional, disorder and maintenance model is based on phylogenetic patterns of people in general as well as individual biography-specific patterns. In addition to the explanation of the disorder models, concrete assistance is provided, be it phylogenetic-human or individual-biographical.

Free Download Leonardo A. Villalón, "Democratic Struggle, Institutional Reform, and State Resilience in the African Sahel"
English | ISBN: 1498570011 | 2021| 231 pages | PDF | 2 MB
Long on the periphery of both academic research and international attention, the countries of the West African Sahel currently find themselves at the center of global concerns over security, terrorism, migration, and conflict. Since the early 1990s the Sahelian states have also been engaged in political struggles over the construction of democratic institutions. Edited by Leonardo A. Villalón and Abdourahmane Idrissa, Democratic Struggle, Institutional Reform, and State Resilience in the African Sahel addresses a key and little-studied question: How have the politics of democratization across the Francophone Sahel shaped processes of state-building, and with what effects on the resilience of state institutions? Starting from the premise that variation in the politics of institution building and institutional reform―although most frequently justified and debated in terms of democratization―have differing impact on the construction of resilient states , this book examines these processes in six francophone states of the Sahel: Senegal, Mauritania, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, and Chad. The contributors represent a set of distinguished scholars from across the region, many of whom have also been important actors in the struggles they analyze.

Free Download Democratic Humility : Reinhold Niebuhr, Neuroscience, and America's Political Crisis By Christopher Beem
2015 | 193 Pages | ISBN: 1498511422 | PDF | 1 MB
American politics is in a state of crisis but it is not clear why. Nor do we know what to do about it. Reinhold Niebuhr helps us understand what is wrong with our politics and research into the workings of the brain confirms his analysis. Call it sin or motivated reasoning and confirmation bias, the bottom line is that all of us are what Niebuhr calls "Children of Light." We are all vain and self-righteous about our beliefs and values, and far too quick to reject any information that goes against them. The unprecedented rise of talk radio and cable news helps to account for why things are so bad. We all want to hear that our group is smarter and more moral than others. To restore a democracy that functions, we need to understand ourselves better and develop the humility that such knowledge should engender.

Free Download Democracy, Dialogue, and Community Action : Truth and Reconciliation in Greensboro By Spoma Jovanovic
2012 | 163 Pages | ISBN: 1557289913 | EPUB | 1 MB
On November 3, 1979, five protest marchers in Greensboro, North Carolina, were shot and killed by the Ku Klux Klan and the American Nazi Party. There were no police present, but television crews captured the shootings on video. Despite two criminal trials, none of the killers ever served time for their crimes, exposing what many believed to be the inadequacy of judicial, political, and economic systems in the United States. Twenty-five years later, in 2004, Greensboro residents, inspired by post-apartheid South Africa, initiated a Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) to take public testimony and examine the causes, sequence of events, and consequences of the massacre. The TRC was to be a process and a tool by which citizens could feel confident about the truth of the city's history in order to reconcile divergent understandings of past and current city values, and it became the foundation for the first Truth and Reconciliation Commission in the United States. Spoma Jovanovic, who worked alongside other community members to document the grassroots effort to convene the first TRC in the United States, provides a resource and case study of how citizens in one community used their TRC as a way to understand the past and conceive the future. This book preserves the historical significance of a people's effort to seek truth and work for reconciliation, shows a variety of discourse models for other communities to use in seeking to redress past harms, and demonstrates the power of community action to promote participatory democracy.
