Free Download Molecular Dynamics - Theory and Applications
English | 2025 | ISBN: 3031845668 | 777 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 126 MB
This book originated from seminars given at the Institute of Nuclear Energy Technology (INET) of Tsinghua University, China, by the author in 1999. The courses gave graduate students a basic understanding of numerical techniques that would enable them to deal with problems of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and of molecular dynamics at research level. In subsequent years the lecture notes have been re-organized and implemented for students of atmospheric sciences of the Physics Department of the University of Ferrara, Italy. The lecture notes are divided into eight chapters, where some chapters are characterized by a scholastic approach. Specifically, Chapter 1 describes the theoretical basis of molecular dynamics, Chapter 2 gives examples of applications, like the Bénard problem; and Chapter 3 presents a summary of applications of DLA (Diffusion Limited Aggregation). The remainder of the book follows a less conventional approach, mainly informed by the author's experience in the development of computer programs and in teaching. Chapter 4 is dedicated to a comparison of traditional and advanced methods of analysing nuclear safety problems in thermal and fast reactors, Chapter 5 concerns simulation of thermophoresis and aerosol displacement in atmospheric physics, and Chapter 6 discusses thermal confinement of cosmic particles due to thermophoretic forces in space domain. Addressing the recognized difficulty of proceeding from the theoretical formulations found in textbooks to properly working computer programs, and the typically large gap between the theoretical foundation and the final result, Molecular Dynamics - Theory and Applications is ideal for graduate level researchers and practitioners working in the development of codes for simulating physical problems.

Free Download Iris Beau Segers, "Mobilization against Asylum Seekers in Contemporary Urban Spaces: Not in Our Backyard "
English | ISBN: 0367765616 | 2022 | 206 pages | AZW3 | 4 MB
This book investigates the issue of local mobilization against asylum seekers in urban areas, which are often disproportionally affected by complex issues related to immigration and integration, as well as socio-economic development and growing inequalities. Based on ethnographic research in the city of Rotterdam, it explores the conditions under which mobilization against the establishment of an asylum seekers' centre emerged, offering a combined analysis of interviews, social media, and mainstream media to demonstrate the key role played by storytelling in the development of opposition to the arrival of asylum seekers. Presenting a theoretical model of anti-immigration mobilization that connects the social importance of storytelling to broader socio-political developments and conditions, this volume will appeal to scholars of sociology, anthropology, and politics with interests in migration, social movements, and mobilization around contentious issues.

Free Download Memory and Identity in the Narratives of Soledad Puértolas : Constructing the Past and the Self By Tamara L. Townsend
2014 | 164 Pages | ISBN: 1498500293 | EPUB | 1 MB
Narratives of contemporary Spanish writer Soledad Puértolas (1947-), inducted into the Real Academia Española in 2010, depict the psychological struggles of the individual in postmodern democratic European society. Puértolas's realist style emphasizes storytelling and character portrayal, and her urban middle-class characters seek satisfying interactions with others and a sense of purpose. Memory aids characters in their quest for meaning and identity, and their use of memory reveals their self-perception and outlook on life. This book maps four ways in which Puértolas's narratives use memory to approach the fundamental problem of the individual's search for purpose and identity. Some characters are burdened by memory in certain texts, especially Días del Arenal (1992) and Burdeos (1986). Reflection upon a painful self-defining memory affects their present mood and behavior. For some, this burden causes them to withdraw or to act irresponsibly; others accept and overcome the scars of the past. A second type of character takes an escapist approach to memory, as seen in Queda la noche (1989). Their nostalgic retreat indicates a restless dissatisfaction with the present. In a third type of memory, a secondary character provides the organizing force behind a protagonist's reminiscences, often an extroverted foil to highlight the protagonist's introspective nature. Memory of the relationship motivates the protagonist to mentally order his or her own life through the life review process; Una vida inesperada (1997) and La señora Berg (1998) provide examples. Finally, in the amnesic mode, Puértolas departs from realism to experiment with different forms of amnesia, as in La rosa de plata (1999) and Si al atardecer llegara el mensajero (1995). Memory loss highlights the centrality of memory to personhood and identity, while at the same time it draws attention to the inadequacy of memory to explain the totality of existence.

Free Download Mathematics and Applications of Computer Graphics
English | 2025 | ISBN: 9819629322 | 203 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 38 MB
This book equips readers with the fundamentals of 3DCG that support the advanced technologies. The content of this book is divided into four categories: modeling, rendering, character animation, and physical simulation, and each is explained in a separate chapter. In simpler terms, these four technologies can be described as creating shapes, creating images, creating motion, and reproducing the behavior of the natural world. The "Modeling" chapter describes the theory behind describing the shape of an object using surface meshes and then editing and manipulating them. The chapter "Rendering" focuses on the calculation of the luminance of an object's surface, and describes methods for calculating global illumination and generating fast images using precomputation to produce realistic images. Physical phenomena such as light scattering, which is necessary to improve realism, are also explained. The "Character Animation" chapter introduces the skeleton method, a standard technique in animation production, and describes various animation editing techniques for humanoid character models. Finally, the chapter on "Physical Simulation" describes methods to compute the behavior of complex natural phenomena, including not only hard objects but also flowing objects such as water and air. The four topics listed here are the fundamental elements that support 3DCG. The chapters were written by researchers who are active at the forefront of their respective fields. Each of the authors has a remarkable track record and can be said to have led the development of 3DCG technology in Japan with their wealth of experience and knowledge.
