Free Download Transnational Networks and Justice in the Global South: Comparative Examination of African and Asian Contexts (International Law and the Global South) by Tonny Raymond Kirabira
English | November 12, 2025 | ISBN: 9819531365 | 216 pages | True ePUB, PDF | 9.53 Mb
This book contributes new insights into the construction and implementation of global justice across different constituencies in the Global South. In particular, it investigates the impact of NGOs and victims' representatives on redress mechanisms for mass atrocities and violence, using the scholarly field of transitional justice. By utilising this scholarly lens, the book is able to draw into a wide range of discussions and mechanisms aimed at addressing mass violence and armed conflict in the Global South. These discussions are in line with the central question of how NGOs impact on the legitimacy of transitional justice processes. The book thus examines the question analytically and empirically, using the theory of legitimacy, as one of the ways in which to explain the power dynamics of global justice and institutions. It offers significant contributions to the existing literature on legitimacy in transitional justice, with country case specific examples of Uganda and Myanmar. While the book is broadly framed within the scholarly field of transitional justice, it draws on two branches of international law -International Human Rights Law (IHRL) and International Criminal Law (ICL). It also benefits from scholarship in the field of international relations to explicate the legitimacy and institutional power of NGOs and international courts. These disciplines are converged through the literature review and analysis. The book will make a new contribution by adding empirical data on NGO work in transitional justice from two case studies. The thrust of the argument is that NGOs either enhance or reduce the legitimacy of transitional justice mechanisms. The concept of legitimacy will be used to analyse the way in which transitional justice is implemented.

Free Download Translation and Identity By Michael Cronin
2006 | 176 Pages | ISBN: 0415364647 | PDF | 1 MB
Michael Cronin looks at how translation has played a crucial role in shaping debates about identity, language and cultural survival in the past and in the present. He explores how everything from the impact of migrationon the curricula for national literature courses, to the way in which nations wage war in the modern era is bound up with urgent questions of translation and identity. Examining translation practices and experiences across continents to show how translation is an integral part of how cultures are evolving, the volume presents new perspectives on how translation can be a powerful tool in enhancing difference and promoting intercultural dialogue. Drawing on a wide range of materials from official government reports to Shakespearean drama and Hollywood films, Cronin demonstrates how translation is central to any proper understanding of how cultural identity has emerged in human history, and suggests an innovative and positive vision of how translation can be used to deal with one of the most salient issues in an increasingly borderless world.

Free Download Transitions to Competitive Government: Speed, Consensus, and Performance By Ronald B. Cullen, Donald P. Cushman
2000 | 334 Pages | ISBN: 0791446573 | PDF | 1 MB
Describes how private-sector management strategies can help governments obtain greater access to global resources, create more jobs, and provide better social services to their citizens. Transitions to Competitive Government demonstrates how government can add value to a region, a nation, a state, its citizens, and their social values through speed, consensus, and performance. It does this in three stages. First, it shows competitive government to be entrepreneurial in seeking resources, jobs, and social services. Second, it provides case studies that offer examples of the challenges faced, strategies utilized, and implementing processes employed by various levels of government. Third, it explicates a global benchmarking process for evaluating government reforms and their progress in yielding increased competitiveness.
