Implications of Artificial Intelligence-Related Data Center Electricity Use and Emissions: Proceedings of a Workshop
English | 2026 | ISBN: 9780309992077 | 118 pages | True PDF,EPUB | 4.98 MB
In recent years, the global adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) has spurred significant construction and investment in new data centers and cloud computing. These data centers require large-scale continuous power, posing challenges for local electric grids and broader climate goals. To explore how to map, measure, and mitigate the impacts of AI data center electricity usage, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine convened the workshop Implications of Artificial Intelligence-Related Data Center Electricity Use and Emissions in Washington, DC, on November 12-13, 2024. Organized through the National Academies Roundtable on Artificial Intelligence and Climate Change, the event gathered more than 95 in-person and more than 350 virtual participants from academia, the technology industry, electric utilities, community advocacy groups, and government agencies to discuss how recent AI developments could impact energy demands, identify options to mitigate increased electricity use and emissions, and consider regional implications related to data center siting and renewable resource availability. This publication summarizes the presentations and discussion of the workshop.

Michael Lucken, "Imitation and Creativity in Japanese Arts: From Kishida Ryusei to Miyazaki Hayao "
English | ISBN: 0231172923 | 2016 | 256 pages | MOBI | 4 MB

Offering a much-needed corrective to this critique, Michael Lucken demonstrates the distinct character of Japanese mimesis and its dynamic impact on global culture, showing through several twentieth-century masterpieces the generative and regenerative power of Japanese arts.

Uroš Cvoro, "Images of War in Contemporary Art: Terror and Conflict in the Mass Media"
English | ISBN: 1350227331 | 2021 | 296 pages | MOBI | 7 MB
In Images of War in Contemporary Art, Uroš Cvoro and Kit Messham-Muir mount a challenge to the dominance of theoretical tropes of trauma, affect, and emotion that have determined how we think of images of war and terror for the last 20 years. Through analyses of visual culture from contemporary "war art" to the meme wars, they argue that the art that most effectively challenges the ethics and aesthetics of war and terror today is that which disrupts this flow-art that makes alternative perceptions of wartime both visible and possible.

J. P. E. Harper-Scott, "Ideology in Britten's Operas "
English | ISBN: 1108416365 | 2018 | 348 pages | EPUB | 964 KB
This thematic examination of Britten's operas focuses on the way that ideology is presented on stage. To watch or listen is to engage with a vivid artistic testament to the ideological world of mid-twentieth-century Britain. But it is more than that, too, because in many ways Britten's operas continue to proffer a diagnosis of certain unresolved problems in our own time. Only rarely, as in Peter Grimes, which shows the violence inherent in all forms of social and psychological identification, does Britten unmistakably call into question fundamental precepts of his contemporary ideology. This has not, however, prevented some writers from romanticizing Britten as a quiet revolutionary. This book argues, in contrast, that his operas, and some interpretations of them, have obscured a greater social and philosophical complicity that it is timely - if at the same time uncomfortable - for his early twenty-first-century audiences to address.

Identity Analytics: Analytics for Identity and Access Management
English | 2026 | ISBN: B0FDF52R82 | 232 pages | PDF | 7.56 MB
Misconfigured identities are the leading cause of cyber incidents. Organizations are investing significant resources to address these vulnerabilities, but these investments often prioritize meeting compliance requirements set by regulators. However, the controls and monitoring systems implemented are not designed for real-time threat detection and risk mitigation. Consequently, organizations often resort to purchasing multiple expensive vendor products, which then require extensive reconfiguration due to the varied identity landscapes of each organization.

ISO 42001 and Legal Compliance A Principled Implementation of the AI Management System
English | 2026 | ISBN: B0FP1FRR46 | 153 pages | PDF | 4.21 MB
ISO/IEC 42001:2023 is the world-first standard for managing AI responsibly. It addresses the unique challenges AI poses, such as ethical considerations, transparency, and continuous learning. This voluntary international standard on AI management systems is growing in importance. With increased concerns over―and distrust of―the use of AI, more and more consumers and clients are likely to require their vendors to be ISO/IEC 42001:2023-certified, and more organizations in all industries and of all sizes are likely to implement AI management systems on their own.
