George K. Safos, "Shoulder Surgery - Open vs Arthroscopic Techniques"
English | ISBN: 183769673X | 2023 | 102 pages | PDF | 2 MB
Orthopedic practice involves treating a great number of shoulder pathologies, including trauma and sports-related injuries in young adults or arthritis and rotator cuff arthropathies in elderly people. The range of movement (ROM) of the shoulder is 340 degrees, which is the reason for many problems like impingement syndrome, rotator cuff rupture, SLAP (long head of biceps pathology), shoulder fractures, rotator cuff arthropathies, shoulder tumors, and trapezium pathology, all of which are painful conditions of the upper extremity that result in serious discomfort. Shoulder pathology is primarily diagnosed by history and physical examination, but MRIs and CT scans are also very helpful for diagnosis. The mainstay of treatment involves early identification before the onset of degenerative changes, physical therapy exercises to strengthen the shoulder girdle, and pharmacological interventions to decrease inflammation. Open and arthroscopic techniques have advanced in the last decade, minimizing the possibility of rotator cuff arthropathy and arthritis. This book provides a comprehensive overview of shoulder pathologies, including shoulder instability, glenoid bone defect, greater tuberosity fractures, lesions of the proximal long head of the biceps tendon, and trapezius myalgia, as well as their different treatments, including open and arthroscopic techniques.

Christopher D. Stone, "Should Trees Have Standing?: Law, Morality, and the Environment"
English | ISBN: 0199736073 | 2010 | 248 pages | MOBI | 961 KB
Originally published in 1972, Should Trees Have Standing? was a rallying point for the then burgeoning environmental movement, launching a worldwide debate on the basic nature of legal rights that reached the U.S. Supreme Court. Now, in the 35th anniversary edition of this remarkably influential book, Christopher D. Stone updates his original thesis and explores the impact his ideas have had on the courts, the academy, and society as a whole. At the heart of the book is an eminently sensible, legally sound, and compelling argument that the environment should be granted legal rights. For the new edition, Stone explores a variety of recent cases and current events-and related topics such as climate change and protecting the oceans-providing a thoughtful survey of the past and an insightful glimpse at the future of the environmental movement. This enduring work continues to serve as the definitive statement as to why trees, oceans, animals, and the environment as a whole should be bestowed with legal rights, so that the voiceless elements in nature are protected for future generations.

David Cressy, "Shipwrecks and the Bounty of the Sea"

Shipwrecks and the Bounty of the Sea is a work of social history examining community relationships, law, and seafaring over the long early modern period. It explores the politics of the coastline, the economy of scavenging, and the law of 'wreck of the sea' from the beginning of the reign of Elizabeth I to the end of the reign of George II. England's coastlines were heavily trafficked by naval and commercial shipping, but an unfortunate percentage was cast away or lost.

Stephanie C DeLuca, "Shifting the Therapeutic Paradigm for Children with Neuromotor Disabilities to Maximizing Development"
English | ISBN: 3725804559 | 2024 | 218 pages | PDF | 17 MB
The United Nations Convention on the Rights to Children states that "Every child with a disability should enjoy the best possible life in society. Governments should remove all obstacles for children with disabilities to become independent and to participate actively in the community." This Special Issue sought to address this call by challenging historical legacy that surround pediatric rehabilitation. It focused on neuromotor disabilities and was a collection of publications from authors who use science to seek understanding about neuromotor disabilities with a hope of improving the lives of all children with such diagnoses that stem from etiologies such as cerebral palsy, stroke, hypoxic injuries, and traumatic brain injuries. This Special Issue included 13 original research articles investigating parental information, strengthening surgical outcomes, the development of unimanual and bimanual abilities, factors influencing NICU services, the achievement of goals, and novel therapeutic frameworks to guide the therapeutic process. It also included two perspective pieces regarding the importance of play in early childhood development and the importance of life-long fitness for individuals with disabilities.
