Globalization and Everyday Life (The New Sociology) By Larry Ray
2007 | 256 Pages | ISBN: 0415340950 | PDF | 2 MB
Globalization and Everyday Life provides an accessible account of globalization by developing two themes in particular. First, globalization is an outcome of structural and cultural processes that manifest in different ways in economy, politics, culture and organizations. So the globalized world is increasingly heterogeneous, unequal and conflictual rather than integrated and ordered. Secondly, globalization is sustained and created by the everyday actions of people and institutions. Both of these have far-reaching consequences for everyday life and are fully explored in this volume. Larry Ray skilfully guides students through the various aspects of the globalization debate and illustrates key arguments with reference to specific topics including nation, state and cosmopolitanism, virtual societies, transnationals and development. This innovative book provides this information in a clear and concise manner suitable for the undergraduate student studying sociology, social geography, globalization and development studies.

Globalisation and Pedagogy: Space, Place and Identity, 2nd edition By Edwards Usher
2008 | 191 Pages | ISBN: 0415428955 | PDF | 2 MB
There is considerable debate as to the nature, extent and significance of globalisation. There is also a great deal of discussion of its implications for education, particularly in relation to the spread of global policy. The discussion of globalisation and educational policy has two interrelated aspects - first, the examination of policies as they migrate around the globe, and second, the exploration of the processes of migration and how similar policies emerge in different national contexts. The authors of this book provide a fresh examination of the changes and development that globalisation in education has had on pedagogy. They consider different pedagogic practices and introduce a range of literature from around the world. This pedagogic text will help the reader to consider the impact of globalising processes on many different sectors of education and training.

Global Sustainability: Bending the Curve (Routledge Sei Global Environment and Developmentseries, 3) By G. Gallopin, Paul D. Raskin
2002 | 232 Pages | ISBN: 0415265924 | PDF | 2 MB
Unprecedented levels of wealth, technology and institutional capacity can forge a just, peaceful and ecologically resilient future. However, the authors argue, social polarization, geo-political conflict and environmental degradation are threatening the long-term well-being of humanity and the planet. Global Sustainability explores the alternative futures that could emerge from the resolution of these antagonisms. Based on extensive international and interdisciplinary research, the book identifies the perils of market-driven scenarios and considers the possibility of the failure of conventional approaches. It also, however, presents a vision of the possibility of a 'Great Transition' in which revised human values and development goals bring a new stage of civilization. It will be essential reading for all scholars and professionals interested in the future of the environment, international affairs, and sustainable development.

Global Politics of Defense Reform (Initiatives in Strategic Studies: Issues and Policies) By Thomas Bruneau, Harold Trinkunas
2008 | 312 Pages | ISBN: 0230604447 | PDF | 3 MB
This volume analyzes the impact of key global trends on civil-military relations by examining defense reform processes since the end of the Cold War. Civil - military relations are reconceptualized to emphasize three dimensions: civilian control of the armed forces, effectiveness in carrying out roles and missions, and efficiency in use of resources. The key global trends that affect these dimensions are the globalization of new norms and ideas, the democratization of governance, technological innovation, and economic liberalization. By focusing on defense reform processes, this book examines cases where civil-military relations can potentially alter quite rapidly under the impact of global trends. By comparing cases across Europe, Asia, North and South America, this book argues that democratization and globalization have had an outsized role in determining the timing and sequence of defense reform and the consequent impact on civil-military relations.

Global Metaphors: Modernity and the Quest for One World By Jo-Anne Pemberton
2001 | 238 Pages | ISBN: 0745316530 | PDF | 3 MB
The advent of the twentieth century saw an incredible advance in scientific technology. By the inter-war period of the 1920s and early 1930s cars, planes and radios were a part of everyday life, and science became a popular cult for a new age. Faith in science surged amidst an atmosphere of intellectual and social crisis. Jo-Anne Pemberton looks in detail at the rhetoric used by the political classes of the time that propagated a vision of a new global unity, and reveals the way in which those same metaphors and imagery are used today in the rhetoric of globalization. Then, as now, the idea of 'one world' was challenged by notions of manyness and multiplicity.Drawing parallels between then and now, Global Metaphors reveals how much of the appeal of globalization rhetoric relies on shimmering technological fantasies about the future. Today this also incorporates images of the environment which are used to reinforce the idea of an interconnected world. While this seductive imagery is impelled at one level by the romance of scientific invention, Pemberton reveals the way in which it is also used to cement particular political, economic and cultural interests as universal goods. Arguing that our current debate about globalization is in effect a re-run of the same debate from the inter-war period, she explores why globalist thinking gains currency at particular moments in history, and looks beyond this to the interests, values and cultural biases it belies. The book explores many similarities between early twentieth century discussions of modernity and late twentieth century debates about postmodernity.

Global Logistics and Supply Chain Management by Mason Harris
English | September 15, 2023 | ISBN: 1682858022 | 368 pages | PDF | 16 Mb
Marketing has a strong influence on the management of a firm, internal and inter-firm relationships, and the supply chain. As a business philosophy, marketing guides firms to achieve customer satisfaction at a profit in a coordinated manner. Marketing represents a fundamental set of values and beliefs about the importance of the customer that guide firms in their daily operations. It also provides a philosophical foundation for human behavior within a firm. In other words, marketing as a business philosophy guides a firm's actions to develop, maintain, and enhance inter-firm relationships to satisfy customers. Marketing is also a necessary component for implementing supply chain management. One of the key elements in supply chain management implementation is partnership with compatible corporate philosophies, particularly for key relationships. Marketing should be the compatible philosophy among supply chain partners, so all partners strive to satisfy customers at a profit through inter-functional coordination within and among supply chain partners. Thus, under compatible marketing philosophies, supply chain partners become more willing to be efficient and effective toward a common goal: customer satisfaction at a profit. Effective supply chain management requires all partners to build and maintain close, long-term relationships. Successful supply chains rely on forming strategic partnerships, meaning long-term inter-firm relationships with trading partners. Efficient supply chain management is crucial for survival and success in a turbulent world. The current economic crisis further increases its importance. The objective of this book is to identify global supply chain management challenges and their solutions. This book is comprised of seven chapters.
