![]() Ethan Mills, "Three Pillars of Skepticism in Classical India: Nagarjuna, Jayarasi, and Sri Harsa " English | ISBN: 1498555691 | 2018 | 254 pages | AZW3 | 1055 KB Beginning with the earliest strata of Indian philosophy, this book uncovers a distinct tradition of skepticism in Indian philosophy through a study of the "three pillars" of Indian skepticism near the beginning, middle, and end of the classical era: Nagarjuna (c. 150-200 CE), Jayarasi (c. 770-830 CE), and Sri Har?a (c. 1125-1180 CE). Moving beyond the traditional school model of understanding the history of Indian philosophy, this book argues that the philosophical history of India contains a tradition of skepticism about philosophy represented most clearly by three figures coming from different schools but utilizing similar methods: Nagarjuna, Jayarasi, and Sri Har?a. This book argues that there is a category of skepticism often overlooked by philosophers today: skepticism about philosophy, varieties of which are found not only in classical India but also in the Western tradition in Pyrrhonian skepticism. Skepticism about philosophy consists of intellectual therapies for those afflicted by the quest for dogmatic beliefs. The book begins with the roots of this type of skepticism in ancient India in the ?g Veda, Upani?ads, and early Buddhist texts. Then there are two chapters on each of the three major figures: one chapter giving each philosopher's overall aims and methods and a second demonstrating how each philosopher applies these methods to specific philosophical issues. The conclusion shows how the history of Indian skepticism might help to answer philosophy's detractors today: while skeptics demonstrate that we should be modest about philosophy's ability to produce firm answers, philosophy nonetheless has other uses such as cultivating critical thinking skills and lessening dogmatism. This book is situated within a larger project of expanding the history of philosophy. Just as the history of Western philosophy ought to inform contemporary philosophy, so should expanding the history of philosophy to include classical India illuminate understandings of philosophy today: its value, limits, and what it can do for us in the 21st century. ![]() Michael Pastore, "Thoreau Bound: A Utopian Romance in the Isles of Greece" English | ISBN: 0927379686 | 2011 | 544 pages | EPUB | 725 KB Aldous Huxley's dystopian novel Brave New World (1932) depicts a futuristic society where politicians utilize technology to deceive their citizens so that they "love their servitude". In a Foreword to a reprint of the novel (written in 1951) Huxley claims that the biggest flaw in his story is that a protagonist ("the Savage") is given only two alternatives. Huxley writes: "If I were now to rewrite the book, I would offer the Savage a third alternative ... in a community of exiles and refugees from the Brave New World."The comic novel Thoreau Bound might be the third alternative - between the technological utopians and the computer-smashing neo-Luddites - that Huxley had in mind.O. Thoreau has more problems than Casanova. Like his ancestor Henry David, he is pummeled by the mass-culture that substitutes an artificial life for a real one, and deadens his creative genius. To find his authentic self he needs solitude - yet everywhere he wanders women flutter and fall around him like October leaves. With 50 books in his backpack and 100 bucks in his pocket, the wanderlusting Thoreau saunters through the heart of modern Greece. Here he encounters a dozen extraordinary women and men, each one who has left the beaten path to search for a more glorious existence. In the middle of his exotic journey, Thoreau discovers a hilarious Utopia, a community of liberated women - women wise, wonderful and wild. In this endangered paradise, healthy sexuality is celebrated, the natural world is treasured, work is play, creativity is nurtured, and the hearts of every individual flourish with laughter and genuine Love.Thoreau Bound explores the problems and themes of love, eros, Utopia, and the search for an authentic and meaningful life. The era of Don Juans and the exploitation of women is ending; a new model of human relationships is about to dawn. In the utopias of the future, women and men will relate as equal partners, nourishing each other with the utmost passion, compassion, and sincerity. ![]() Aliza Kelly, "This Is Your Destiny: Using Astrology to Manifest Your Best Life" English | ISBN: 1250763142 | 2021 | 272 pages | MOBI | 5 MB Your best life is written in the stars ![]() Allan J.
