The Apache Diaspora Four Centuries of Displacement and Survival [Audiobook]
English | ASIN: B09TCFM9CR | 2022 | 15 hours and 52 minutes | MP3 | M4B | 436 MB
Across four centuries, Apache (Nde) peoples in the North American West confronted enslavement and forced migration schemes intended to exploit, subjugate, or eliminate them. While many Indigenous groups in the Americas lived through similar histories, Apaches were especially affected owing to their mobility, resistance, and proximity to multiple imperial powers. Based on archival research in Spain, Mexico, and the United States, as well Apache oral histories, The Apache Diaspora brings to life the stories of displaced Apaches and the kin from whom they were separated. As Conrad argues, diaspora was deeply influential not only to those displaced, but also to Apache groups who managed to remain in the West, influencing the strategies of mobility and resistance for which they would become famous around the world.

But striving for unrealistic standards, basing your self-worth on meeting those standards, and engaging in persistent self-criticism will ultimately lead to anxiety, stress, worry, burnout, and unhappiness. So, how can you distinguish between "helpful" and "hurtful" perfectionism and stop holding yourself and others to unrealistically high standards? Written by two clinical psychologists, The Anxious Perfectionist shines a much-needed light on the hidden costs of "being the best," and offers essential skills based in acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) to help you cope with the anxiety that is driven by your perfectionism.

The Anxious Investor Mastering the Mental Game of Investing [Audiobook]
English | ASIN: B09976Z9P9 | 2022 | 7 hours and 58 minutes | MP3 | M4B | 219 MB
A revelatory new guide to building wealth amidst stock market crashes and uncertain economic conditions, drawing upon financial modeling, behavioral psychology, and market history to offer practical advice to everyday investors. Investing is scary. Never is that more true than during market pullbacks and recessions, whether the Great Recession of 2008; the brief, vertiginous COVID crash in 2020; or any number of recent smaller, yet still wrenching, periods of economic turbulence. We see those flashing red numbers and all semblance of "planning" or "risk tolerance" suddenly goes out the window. We wonder: Will I ever be able to retire? Should I be buying GameStop stock? What, uh, is this stock market thing, anyway? Scott Nations has spent his career studying market volatility. His firm, NationsShares, is the world's leading independent developer of volatility and option-enhanced indexes. In The Anxious Investor, he teaches listeners how to understand the markets, master their own fear, and make the most of their money.

The American Chestnut An Environmental History [Audiobook]
English | ASIN: B09Z792QKM | 2022 | 10 hours and 47 minutes | MP3 | M4B | 296 MB
Before 1910 the American chestnut was one of the most common trees in the eastern United States. An important natural resource, chestnut wood was preferred for woodworking, fencing, and building construction, as it was rot resistant and straight grained. The hearty and delicious nuts also fed wildlife, people, and livestock. Ironically, the tree that most piqued the emotions of nineteenth- and early twentieth-century Americans has virtually disappeared from the eastern United States. After a blight fungus was introduced into the United States during the late nineteenth century, the American chestnut became functionally extinct.

The Altruistic Urge Why We're Driven to Help Others [Audiobook]
English | ASIN: B09XBVM88D | 2022 | 8 hours and 24 minutes | MP3 | M4B | 231 MB
In The Altruistic Urge, Stephanie D. Preston explores how and why we developed a surprisingly powerful drive to help the vulnerable. She argues that the neural and psychological mechanisms that evolved to safeguard offspring also motivate people to save strangers in need of immediate aid. Merging extensive interdisciplinary research that spans psychology, neuroscience, neurobiology, and evolutionary biology, Preston develops a groundbreaking model of altruistic responses. Her theory accounts for extraordinary feats of bravery, all-too-common apathy, and everything in between—and it can also be deployed to craft more effective appeals to assist those in need.
