Seit dem Erscheinen der 5. Auflage 1985 hat sich der Wortbestand des Neuhocharabischen signifikant verandert, umso mehr als die letzten Jahrzehnte von einem nie dagewesenen technischen und digitalen Wandel sowie gesellschaftlichen Umbruchen und kulturellen Paradigmenwechseln gepragt waren. Entsprechend gross ist der Zuwachs der Lemmata. Neben der Erweiterung des Wortschatzes lag das Augenmerk auf der Korrektur und Erganzung, aber auch der Straffung des bisherigen Bestandes. Es gibt kaum ein Lemma, das der Verfasser nicht redigiert hatte. Entstanden ist letztlich ein neues Worterbuch, das mit der Vorauflage nur noch den Grundbestand an Lexemen gemeinsam hat. Zudem erscheint das Worterbuch mit einem vollig neuen Druckbild, der Text ist lesefreundlicher, und das Worterbuch ist insgesamt kompakter und handlicher geworden und bietet mehr Inhalt bei geringerem Umfang. Somit liegt nun wieder ein modernes Grossworterbuch fur die arabische Sprache vor. Die 6. Auflage des "Wehr" prasentiert den Allgemeinwortschatz des modernen Hocharabisch unter Berucksichtigung der Regionalitaten und enthalt zahlreiche Begriffe aus allen Fachgebieten, die fur eine adaquate zeitgenossische Kommunikation und fur die originalsprachige Rezeption moderner Literatur und Publizistik unerlasslich sind.
