Reimaging Britain 500 Years of Black and Asian History
Free Download Ron Ramdin, "Reimaging Britain: 500 Years of Black and Asian History"
English | 2000 | pages: 413 | ISBN: 074531600X | PDF | 1,5 mb
A full understanding of Black and Asian history within the British contextis integral to achieving a truly multicultural Britain. In this landmark book, Ron Ramdin offers the first complete history of both the Black and Asian experience in Britain. Blacks and Asians have a long history in the British Isles. Ramdin illustrates this by covering a five hundred year period, from 1500 to the present day. He recounts the major historical episodes and covers all the major figures, including Ottobah Cugoano, William Cuffay, Henry Sylvester Williams, George Padmore, Mary Seacole, C.L.R. James, V.S. Naipaul, Sam Selvon, Walter Tull, Shirley Bassey, Bill Morris, Salman Rushdie, Hanif Kureshi, Diane Abbott and Bernie Grant. In bringing the largely hidden histories of these two immigrant communities to the forefront, Ron Ramdin's wide-ranging study challenges conventional histories of the British Isles. Reimaging Britain will lead to a reappraisal of how we write 'British' history in the future.

Regenerative Dialogues for Sustainable Futures Integrating Science, Arts, Spirituality and Ancestral Knowledge
Free Download Regenerative Dialogues for Sustainable Futures: Integrating Science, Arts, Spirituality and Ancestral Knowledge for Planetary Wellbeing (Sustainable Development Goals Series) by Fabio Scarano
English | March 14, 2024 | ISBN: 3031518403 | 190 pages | PDF | 9.93 Mb
This book is about sustainability in its broadest sense. It argues that the ongoing science-policy dialogue on sustainable development (as framed by the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals) is insufficient to drive the planet to desired sustainable futures. This conversation, followed by transformative action, must be inclusive of other forms of interpretation of reality (arts, spirituality, and ancestral knowledge) and non-modern cosmovisions. This is more a book about dialogues than about the common dualism problem/solution, and such dialogues are approached as an essential trigger of regeneration. The book takes the reader from a historical perspective of the human-nature relationship through to a discussion on sustainable futures as utopias. The optimism conveyed by the book is justified by a plethora of global examples of such regenerative dialogues.

Recent Advances in Robot Learning
Free Download Recent Advances in Robot Learning By Judy A. Franklin, Tom M. Mitchell, Sebastian Thrun (auth.), Judy A. Franklin, Tom M. Mitchell, Sebastian Thrun (eds.)
1996 | 218 Pages | ISBN: 0792397452 | PDF | 6 MB
Recent Advances in Robot Learning contains seven papers on robot learning written by leading researchers in the field. As the selection of papers illustrates, the field of robot learning is both active and diverse. A variety of machine learning methods, ranging from inductive logic programming to reinforcement learning, is being applied to many subproblems in robot perception and control, often with objectives as diverse as parameter calibration and concept formulation. While no unified robot learning framework has yet emerged to cover the variety of problems and approaches described in these papers and other publications, a clear set of shared issues underlies many robot learning problems. Machine learning, when applied to robotics, is situated: it is embedded into a real-world system that tightly integrates perception, decision making and execution. Since robot learning involves decision making, there is an inherent active learning issue. Robotic domains are usually complex, yet the expense of using actual robotic hardware often prohibits the collection of large amounts of training data. Most robotic systems are real-time systems. Decisions must be made within critical or practical time constraints. These characteristics present challenges and constraints to the learning system. Since these characteristics are shared by other important real-world application domains, robotics is a highly attractive area for research on machine learning. On the other hand, machine learning is also highly attractive to robotics. There is a great variety of open problems in robotics that defy a static, hand-coded solution. Recent Advances in Robot Learning is an edited volume of peer-reviewed original research comprising seven invited contributions by leading researchers. This research work has also been published as a special issue of Machine Learning (Volume 23, Numbers 2 and 3).

Reasoning with Logic Programming
Free Download Reasoning with Logic Programming By José Júlio Alferes, Luís Moniz Pereira (eds.)
1996 | 336 Pages | ISBN: 3540614885 | PDF | 5 MB
As the first monograph in the field, this state-of-the-art survey provides a rigorous presentation of logic programs as representational and reasoning tools. The authors used this book successfully as a text for a MSc course. The use of logic programming for various types of reasoning, particularly for nonmonotonic reasoning, is thoroughly investigated and illustrated and a variety of knowledge representation formalisms, like default negation, integrity constraints, default rules, etc., are treated in depth. Besides the main text, detailed introductory background and motivational information is included together with a bibliography listing 215 entries as well as the listing of the Prolog interpreter used in the text for running numerous examples.

Reading and Writing during the Dissolution Monks, Friars, and Nuns 1530–1558
Free Download Mary C. Erler, "Reading and Writing during the Dissolution: Monks, Friars, and Nuns 1530-1558"
English | ISBN: 1316601935 | 2016 | 216 pages | PDF | 5 MB
In the years from 1534 when Henry VIII became head of the English church until the end of Mary Tudor's reign in 1558, the forms of English religious life evolved quickly and in complex ways. At the heart of these changes stood the country's professed religious men and women, whose institutional homes were closed between 1535 and 1540. Records of their reading and writing offer a remarkable view of these turbulent times. The responses to religious change of friars, anchorites, monks and nuns from London and the surrounding regions are shown through chronicles, devotional texts, and letters. What becomes apparent is the variety of positions that English religious men and women took up at the Reformation and the accommodations that they reached, both spiritual and practical. Of particular interest are the extraordinary letters of Margaret Vernon, head of four nunneries and personal friend of Thomas Cromwell.
