Organic Cinema Film, Architecture, and the Work of Béla Tarr
Free Download Thorsten Botz-Bornstein, "Organic Cinema: Film, Architecture, and the Work of Béla Tarr"
English | ISBN: 1785335669 | 2017 | 238 pages | PDF | 2 MB
The "organic" is by now a venerable concept within aesthetics, architecture, and art history, but what might such a term mean within the spatialities and temporalities of film? By way of an answer, this concise and innovative study locates organicity in the work of Béla Tarr, the renowned Hungarian filmmaker and pioneer of the "slow cinema" movement. Through a wholly original analysis of the long take and other signature features of Tarr's work, author Thorsten Botz-Bornstein establishes compelling links between the seemingly remote spheres of film and architecture, revealing shared organic principles that emphasize the transcendence of boundaries.

Ontologies A Silver Bullet for Knowledge Management and Electronic Commerce
Free Download Ontologies: A Silver Bullet for Knowledge Management and Electronic Commerce By Prof. Dr. Dieter Fensel (auth.)
2004 | 162 Pages | ISBN: 3642055583 | PDF | 5 MB
Ontologies have been developed and investigated for some time in artificial intelligence to facilitate knowledge sharing and reuse. More recently, the notion of ontologies has attracted attention from fields such as databases, intelligent information integration, cooperative information systems, information retrieval, electronic commerce, enterprise application integration, and knowledge management. This broadened interest in ontologies is based on the feature that they provide a machine-processable semantics of information sources that can be communicated among agents as well as between software artifacts and humans. This feature makes ontologies the backbone technology of the next web generation, i.e., the Semantic Web. Ontologies are currently applied in areas such as knowledge management in large company-wide networks and call centers, and in B2C, B2G, and B2B electronic commerce. In a nutshell, ontologies enable effective and efficient access to heterogeneous and distributed information sources. Given the increasing amount of information available online, this kind of support is becoming more important day by day.The author systematically introduces the notion of ontologies to the non-expert reader and demonstrates in detail how to apply this conceptual framework for improved intranet retrieval of corporate information and knowledge and for enhanced Internet-based electronic commerce. He also describes ontology languages (XML, RDF, and OWL) and ontology tools, and the application of ontologies. In addition to structural improvements, the second edition covers recent developments relating to the Semantic Web, and emerging web-based standard languages.

Ontological Engineering With Examples from the Areas of Knowledge Management, e–Commerce and the Semantic Web
Free Download Ontological Engineering: With Examples from the Areas of Knowledge Management, e-Commerce and the Semantic Web By Asunción Gómez-Pérez PhD, MSc, MBA, Mariano Fernández-López PhD, MSc, Oscar Corcho MSc (auth.)
2004 | 404 Pages | ISBN: 1852335513 | PDF | 5 MB
Ontological Engineering refers to the set of activities that concern the ontology development process, the ontology life cycle, the methods and methodologies for building ontologies, and the tool suites and languages that support them. During the last decade, increasing attention has been focused on ontologies and Ontological Engineering. Ontologies are now widely used in Knowledge Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science; in applications related to knowledge management, natural language processing, e-commerce, intelligent integration information, information retrieval, integration of databases, b- informatics, and education; and in new emerging fields like the Semantic Web. Primary goals of this book are to acquaint students, researchers and developers of information systems with the basic concepts and major issues of Ontological Engineering, as well as to make ontologies more understandable to those computer science engineers that integrate ontologies into their information systems. We have paid special attention to the influence that ontologies have on the Semantic Web. Pointers to the Semantic Web appear in all the chapters, but specially in the chapter on ontology languages and tools.

Free Download On the Move to Meaningful Internet Systems 2004: OTM 2004 Workshops: OTM Confederated International Workshops and Posters, GADA, JTRES, MIOS, WORM, WOSE, PhDS, and INTEROP 2004, Agia Napa, Cyprus, October 25-29, 2004. Proceedings By Eiko Yoneki, Jean Bacon (auth.), Robert Meersman, Zahir Tari, Angelo Corsaro (eds.)
2004 | 888 Pages | ISBN: 3540236643 | PDF | 11 MB
A special mention for 2004 is in order for the new Doctoral Symposium Workshop where three young postdoc researchers organized an original setup and formula to bring PhD students together and allow them to submit their research proposals for selection. A limited number of the submissions and their approaches were independently evaluated by a panel of senior experts at the conference, and presented by the students in front of a wider audience. These students also got free access to all other parts of the OTM program, and only paid a heavily discounted fee for the Doctoral Symposium itself. (In fact their attendance was largely sponsored by the other participants!) If evaluated as successful, it is the intention of the General Chairs to expand this model in future editions of the OTM conferences and so draw in an audience of young researchers to the OnTheMove forum. All three main conferences and the associated workshops share the d- tributed aspects of modern computing systems, and the resulting applicati- pull created by the Internet and the so-called Semantic Web. For DOA 2004, the primary emphasis stayed on the distributed object infrastructure; for ODBASE 2004, it was the knowledge bases and methods required for enabling the use of formalsemantics;andforCoopIS2004themaintopicwastheinteractionofsuch technologies and methods with management issues, such as occurs in networked organizations. These subject areas naturally overlap and many submissions in factalsotreatenvisagedmutualimpactsamongthem.

Nightingale A Memoir of Murder, Madness, and the Messenger of Spring
Free Download Suzanne Congdon LeRoy, "Nightingale: A Memoir of Murder, Madness, and the Messenger of Spring"
English | ISBN: 098974891X | 2014 | 292 pages | EPUB | 479 KB
Nightingale is an eloquent and inspiring tribute to the legacy of Elisabeth Mannering Congdon, the extraordinary woman who was so much more than the last day of her life. Entrusted with the burdens and joys of memory, Elisabeth's eldest granddaughter, Suzanne Congdon LeRoy, combines lived experience with meticulous historical research as she courageously reveals a family legacy of love, inconceivable loss, and perseverance. Elisabeth Congdon emerges not as heiress or victim but as the messenger of spring and the key to her granddaughter's survival. Elisabeth's early efforts to nurture a foundation of hope, optimism, and the power of possibility lead Suzanne to advanced education, a remarkable nursing career and the discovery of the ineffable relationship between healing oneself, service to others, and the connection to the spirit and beauty of the earth that makes her whole again.
