2007 | 522 Pages | ISBN: 3540770933 | PDF | 31 MB
The International Conference on Asian Digital Libraries (ICADL) is one of the leading international conferences in digital libraries research. The conference has come a long way since its inception in 1998 as the First Asia Digital Library Workshop held in Hong Kong. Since then, the conference has traveled across the Asian continent and has been hosted by Taiwan (ICADL 1999), Seoul, Korea (ICADL 2000), Bangalore, India (ICADL 2001), Singapore (ICADL 2002), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (ICADL 2003), Shanghai, China (ICADL 2004), Bangkok, Thailand (ICADL 2005), and Kyoto, Japan (ICADL 2006). The 2007 edition of the conference marks an important milestone in the ICADL series. Into its tenth year, the conference matured into a significant gathering of practitioners, researchers, educators and policy makers from diverse disciplines sharing a common interest in advancing digital libraries research in Asia. ICADL 2007 was held in Hanoi, Vietnam during December 10-13, 2007, with the theme, "Asian Digital Libraries: Looking Back 10 Years and Forging New Frontiers." The theme reflects upon the growth of the digital libraries community and explores new areas that the community could delve into in the coming years.

Are Cyborgs Persons An Account of Futurist Ethics (Palgrave Studies in the Future of Humanity and its Successors)
Free Download Are Cyborgs Persons?: An Account of Futurist Ethics (Palgrave Studies in the Future of Humanity and its Successors) by Aleksandra Łukaszewicz Alcaraz
English | December 23, 2020 | ISBN: 3030603148 | 222 pages | MOBI | 1.86 Mb
This book presents argumentation for an evolutionary continuity between human persons and cyborg persons, based on the thought of Joseph Margolis. Relying on concepts of cultural realism and post-Darwinism, Aleksandra Łukaszewicz Alcaraz redefines the notion of the person, rather than a human, and discusses the various issues of human body enhancement and online implants transforming modes of perception, cognition, and communication. She argues that new kinds of embodiment should not make acquiring the status of the person impossible, and different kinds of embodiments may be accepted socially and culturally. She proposes we consider ethical problems of agency and responsibility, critically approaching vitalist posthuman ethics, and rethinking the metaphysical standing of normativity, to create space for possible cyborgean ethics that may be executed in an Extended Republic of Humanity.

Architecture of Computing Systems – ARCS 2007 20th International Conference, Zurich, Switzerland, March 12–15, 2007. Proceedin
Free Download Architecture of Computing Systems - ARCS 2007: 20th International Conference, Zurich, Switzerland, March 12-15, 2007. Proceedings By Afshin Niktash, Hooman T. Parizi (auth.), Paul Lukowicz, Lothar Thiele, Gerhard Tröster (eds.)
2007 | 297 Pages | ISBN: 3540712674 | PDF | 21 MB
The ARCS series of conferences has over 30 years of tradition reporting hi- quality results in computer architecture and operating systems research. While the conference is proud of its long tradition, it is also proud to represent a - namic, evolving community that closely follows new research trends and topics. Thus, over the last few years, ARCS has evolved towards a strong focus on s- tem aspects of pervasive computing and self-organization techniques (organic and autonomic computing). At the same time it has expanded from its roots as a German Informatics Society (GI/ITG) conference to an international event. This is re?ected by the composition of the TPC which included over 30 renown scientist from 10 di?erent countries. The conference attracted 83 submission from 16 countries across 4 continents. Of those, 20 have been accepted, which amounts to an acceptance rate below 25%. The 20th ARCS event was a special anniversary conference. It is only ?tting that it was held at a special place: the ETH Zurich. It combines one of the leading information technology schools in Europe with a beautiful location.

Architecting Dependable Systems IV
Free Download Architecting Dependable Systems IV By Joyce L. Tokar (auth.), Rogério de Lemos, Cristina Gacek, Alexander Romanovsky (eds.)
2007 | 438 Pages | ISBN: 3540740333 | PDF | 14 MB
As software systems become ubiquitous, the issues of dependability become more and more crucial. Given that solutions to these issues must be considered from the very beginning of the design process, it is reasonable that dependability is addressed at the architectural level. This book was born of an effort to bring together the research communities of software architectures and dependability. This state-of-the-art survey contains 18 expanded and peer-reviewed papers based on the carefully selected contributions to the Workshop on Architecting Dependable Systems (WADS 2006), organized at the 2006 International Conference on Dependable Systems and Networks (DSN 2006), held in Philadelphia, PA, USA, in June 2006. It also contains a number of invited papers written by recognized experts in the area. The papers are organized in topical sections on architectural description languages, architectural components and patterns, architecting distributed systems, and architectural assurances for dependability.
