State of Emergency An Economic Analysis
Free Download State of Emergency: An Economic Analysis
English | 2024 | ISBN: 1009372084 | 440 Pages | PDF | 4 MB
Nine out of ten constitutions contain explicit emergency provisions. During the pandemic, half of the governments with such constitutions has made use of these provisions by declaring a state of emergency. State of Emergency is the first book to analyse the factors that lead to such provisions being included in newly drafted constitutions. It explores their use - as well as their misuse - and explains the effects that using emergency provisions has. Declaring a state of emergency is particularly challenging in federally constituted states as it endangers the balance of powers between the federal level and the states. This book, therefore, pays special attention to this topic. Focusing on two of the most important recent cases relating to emergency provisions: the Covid-19 pandemic and acts of terrorism, this book uses numerous examples to analyse emergency provisions with a rigorous empirical approach.

State Crime and Immorality The Corrupting Influence of the Powerful
Free Download Mark Monaghan, "State Crime and Immorality: The Corrupting Influence of the Powerful"
English | ISBN: 1447316746 | 2016 | 256 pages | PDF | 4 MB
This is the first book to examine the activities of UK and international 'role models' through the lens of state crime and social policy. Written by experts in the field of sociology and social policy, it defines the ideal state as a single, functioning whole that ensures uniformity in the name of legitimacy. It then details the ways that states do not constitute the ideal in terms of the dangers associated with the maintenance of legitimacy and state power. Anti-democratic measures, such as the invasions of other nation states, the idea that the media can both reinforce and influence the state and the problems of over-zealous policing of a state's own populace, are covered. Using the topical example of Rupert Murdoch and the activities of his media organisation to show how powerful individuals and corporations can and do exert political influence, the book provides a comprehensive discussion of state immorality and deviance generally and state crime in particular. It will appeal to range of academics and practitioners in broader disciplines such as criminology, sociology, politics and political science.

Spatial Cognition VII
Free Download Christoph Hölscher, Thomas F. Shipley, Marta Olivetti Belardinelli, "Spatial Cognition VII: International Conference, Spatial Cognition 2010, Mt. Hood/Portland, OR, USA, August 15-19,02010, Proceedings"
English | 2010 | pages: 356 | ISBN: 3642147488 | PDF | 8,3 mb
This is the seventh volume of a series of books on fundamental research in spatial cognition. As with past volumes, the research presented here spans a broad range of research traditions, for spatial cognition concerns not just the basic spatial behavior of biological and artificial agents, but also the reasoning processes that allow spatial planning across broad spatial and temporal scales. Spatial information is critical for coordinated action and thus agents interacting with objects and moving among objects must be able to perceive spatial relations, learn about these relations, and act on them, or store the information for later use, either by themselves or communicated to others. Research on this problem has included both psychology, which works to understand how humans and other mobile organisms solve these problems, and computer science, which considers the nature of the information available in the world and a formal consideration of how these problems might be solved. Research on human spatial cognition also involves the application of representations and processes that may have evolved to handle object and location information to reasoning about higher-order problems, such as displaying non-spatial information in diagrams. Thus, work in s- tial cognition extends beyond psychology and computer science into many disciplines including geography and education. The Spatial Cognition conference offers one of the few forums for consideration of the issues spanning this broad academic range.

Space Terahertz Remote Sensing Technology
Free Download Space Terahertz Remote Sensing Technology
English | 2024 | ISBN: 1032678089 | 274 Pages | EPUB | 35 MB
Terahertz waves are electromagnetic radiation between microwaves and infrared radiation in the electromagnetic spectrum. They have the capability of greater directivity, higher power density, higher resolution imaging, richer fingerprint spectrum, wider bandwidth and faster transmission rate. Such properties promise great potential for terahertz technology applications in many fields, particularly in the detection of substances and the exploration of space. The book begins with an introduction to the development of space terahertz remote sensing and the underlying theories. The next seven chapters cover the key equipment and critical technologies for terahertz remote sensing, including the terahertz radiometer and its calibration and receiver link; the terahertz reflector antenna and its tolerance analysis; remote sensing imagery; and space resolution enhancement of both oversampled and non-oversampled data. The final chapter presents the application of terahertz imaging technology in the field of security inspection.
