Algeria and Transatlantic Relations
Free Download Sasha Toperich, Samy Boukaila, Jonathan Roberts, "Algeria and Transatlantic Relations"
English | 2018 | ISBN: 0990772144 | EPUB | pages: 300 | 2.1 mb
The U.S.-Algeria relationship is characterized by mutual respect and cooperation. The United States has been supportive of Algerian independence, and both nations are committed to further improving the bilateral relationship through increased trade, education, and cultural partnerships. The two nations are allies in the fight against terrorism, an issue that is of particular importance to Algeria, which went through a black decade (1991-2001) when the Front Islamique du Salut (FIS) conducted acts of terror that set the nation on edge and claimed more than 100,000 lives. In this volume, we will address Algeria's ongoing reforms to diversify its economy, the formation of a stronger democracy, and its effort to position itself as a pillar of stability in the region.

Alfred Herbert Ltd and the British Machine Tool Industry, 1887–1983
Free Download M.J. Lewis, "Alfred Herbert Ltd and the British Machine Tool Industry, 1887-1983"
English | 2017 | ISBN: 1138274178, 075460523X | EPUB | pages: 364 | 3.8 mb
At the beginning of the twentieth century Britain was amongst the world leaders in the production of machine tools, yet by the 1980s the industry was in terminal decline. Focusing on the example of Britain's largest machine tool maker, Alfred Herbert Ltd of Coventry, this study charts the wider fortunes of this vital part of the manufacturing sector. Taking a chronological approach, the book explores how during the late nineteenth century the industry developed a reputation for excellence throughout the world, before the challenges of two world wars necessitated drastic changes and reorganisations. Despite meeting these challenges and emerging with confidence into the post-war market place, the British machine tool industry never regained its pre-eminent position, and increasingly lost ground to foreign competition. By using the example of Alfred Herbert Ltd to illuminate the broader economic and business history of the British machine tool industry, this study not only provides a valuable insight into British manufacturing, but also contributes to the ongoing debates surrounding Britain's alleged decline as a manufacturing nation.

Alexandria A History and a Guide
Free Download Forster E M, "Alexandria: A History and a Guide"
English | 2014 | ISBN: 9774164644 | EPUB | pages: 287 | 0.3 mb
"Alexandria is still alive and alters even when one tries to sum her up... Only the climate, only the north wind and the sea remain as pure as when Menalaus, the first visitor, landed three thousand years ago." In the autumn of 1915, in a "slightly heroic mood," E.M. Forster arrived in Alexandria full of lofty ideals as a volunteer for the Red Cross. Yet most of his time was spent exploring "the magic, antiquity and complexity" of the place in order to cope with living in what he saw as a "funk-hole." With a novelist's pen, he brings to life the fabled, romantic city of Alexander the Great, capital of Greco-Roman Egypt, beacon of light and culture symbolized by the Pharos, where the doomed love affair of Antony and Cleopatra was played out and the greatest library the world has ever known was built. Threading three thousand years of history with vibrant strands of literature and punctuating the narrative with his own experiences, Forster immortalized Alexandria, painting an incomparable portrait of the great city and, inadvertently, himself.
