New Religious Texts from Lydia
Free Download Hasan Malay, "New Religious Texts from Lydia "
English | ISBN: 3700180489 | 2017 | 236 pages | PDF | 54 MB
The ancient area of Lydia has yielded a particularly rich epigraphical harvest of Greek-Roman Antiquity. Inscriptions were found on the surface of ancient sites, during archaeological excavations or discovered in the course of construction work. Over the past decades Hasan Malay (former professor at the Ege University, Izmir) travelled frequently in that region and took copies and photographs of many inscribed stones which were often brought to his attention by inhabitants of remote villages; he also arranged the stones' transport to museums. Further inscriptions were brought to light during a rescue excavation organised by him of the sanctuary of Thea Larmene. From this collection Hasan Malay and Georg Petzl (former professor at the Cologne University) present in this ETAM volume more than 200 unpublished inscriptions, which refer to the religious life. The earliest ones belong to the Hellenistic period, the majority of them were written in the Roman Imperial period, the latest ones date from the Christian Antiquity. The texts belong to various categories: A Lex Sacra, a report on the financing of the mysteries of Artemis, a hymn, a number of oracles, boundary stones, honorific, building and funerary inscriptions, and, above all, dedications, amongst which a good number of confession inscriptions (with the so far only one written in verses). The material is presented according to a geographical order, the accompanying map helps to locate the individual sites. A number of rural sanctuaries are dealt with in special chapters (XVI; XXI-XXIII; XXV); anepigraphic finds (reliefs and sculptures), which were made in these places, are attached in appendices. All the documents - many of them outstanding in novelty - are illustrated by photographs, translated and furnished with commentaries. Detailed indices will be welcomed by the reader wishing to get an overview of the rich material.

English | 2020 | ISBN: 195168284X | EPUB | pages: 228 | 0.5 mb
My Life in the Red Army is the true-life account of 19-year old Polish citizen Fred Virski, who was drafted into the Red Army of the Soviet Union in 1938. The book chronicles Virski's experiences as a soldier in the Ukraine and Central Asia, describing the hardships, his comrades-in-arms, the food, clothing, and interactions with officers and the NKVD (secret police). When war with Germany breaks-out, Virski witnesses scenes of brutality and is caught in fierce fighting, where he is wounded and hospitalized. Following his recovery, he eventually makes his way back to his native Poland. My Life in the Red Army is impressive for its straightforward style tinged with a sense of humor, despite the author's difficult, often dangerous situation.

Motorcycle Accident Reconstruction (2024)
Free Download Nathan Rose, "Motorcycle Accident Reconstruction"
English | 2022 | ISBN: 1468603973 | PDF | pages: 394 | 127.8 mb
Accident reconstruction utilizes principles of physics and empirical data to analyze the physical, electronic, video, audio, and testimonial evidence from a crash, to determine how and why the crash occurred, how the crash could have been avoided, or to determine whose description of the crash is most accurate. This process draws together aspects of mathematics, physics, engineering, materials science, human factors, and psychology, and combines analytical models with empirical test data. Different types of crashes produce different types of evidence and call for different analysis methods. Still, the basic philosophical approach of the reconstructionist is the same from crash type to crash type, as are the physical principles that are brought to bear on the analysis. This book covers a basic approach to accident reconstruction, including the underlying physical principles that are used, then details how this approach and the principles are applied when reconstructing motorcycle crashes.

Mind and Society From Indian Studies to General Sociology
Free Download J.P.S. Uberoi, Khalid Tyabji, "Mind and Society: From Indian Studies to General Sociology"
English | 2020 | ISBN: 019949598X | PDF | pages: 339 | 3.0 mb
A book much needed by India, Indian sociology and the Indian sense of self. This is a strikingly bold volume, diverse in content and yet united by its search for what might be called a truly Indian modernity in the sense of the Gandhian swaraj of mind. A swaraj unfettered by the history of colonialism and the continuing domination of the post-colonial West in both approach and choice of subject matter in Indian academics which continues to define contemporary Indian theory and practice today, both inside and outside the university. This is a work in Indian academics that truly grapples with the concept of Gandhian swaraj in relation to Western thought - its science, philosophy and sociology and its classification of knowledge. It not only analyses the structure of modern Western philosophy and sociology, but also offers some possible solutions to finding our way out of its unavoidable dualisms. It analyses the classification and functioning of the modern university as a social institution. It offers a brilliant analysis of production, reproduction, and obsolescence in post-modern society and then goes on to explore Indian modernity in relation to medievalism and its religions of Hinduism, Sikhism, and Islam.
