Harold Laski, the Reluctant Marxist Socialist Democracy for a World in Turmoil
Free Download Peter Lamb, "Harold Laski, the Reluctant Marxist: Socialist Democracy for a World in Turmoil "
English | ISBN: 3031657616 | 2024 | 247 pages | EPUB, PDF | 487 KB + 5 MB
This book examines Harold Laski's relationship to Marxism. Laski was a reluctant Marxist; he had been a pluralist, democratic socialist who wanted to reach a better society by means of parliamentary, constitutional and associational channels. In fact, he never abandoned these early aspirations. In the 1930s and 1940s he wove them into a distinctive Marxist position as he gradually came to believe that there was no answer to Marxist philosophy on history, social change and the prospects for socialism. It is the incorporation of his earlier political thought into his later work that makes his Marxism so fascinating and his work raises important questions.

Glioma Immunotherapeutic Approaches
Free Download Glioma: Immunotherapeutic Approaches By Tomotoshi Marumoto, Hideyuki Saya (auth.), Ryuya Yamanaka MD, PhD (eds.)
2012 | 226 Pages | ISBN: 146143145X | PDF | 3 MB
Treatment of glioma is currently one of the most challenging problems in oncology, as well as in neurosurgery. Despite major advances in our understanding of the pathomechanism, diagnosis by imaging and the availability of powerful therapeutic tools, the life expectancy of patients with glioblastoma has only been slightly prolonged and a cure remains elusive. None of the currently available surgical tools, including operative microscopes, lasers and image-guided surgery, can enable the detection and removal of all of the tumor tissue. In recent years, however, the landscape has been changing immeasurably, and molecular studies over the past two decades have identified a variety of genetic aberrations that are specifically associated with individual types of gliomas. In addition, certain molecular abnormalities have been linked to therapy responses, thereby establishing clinical biomarkers and molecular targets, and the use of novel agents is being investigated. These agents have been specifically engineered to exert specific cytotoxicity against gliomas, either on their own as single agents or in combination with other modalities. Moreover, there has been an enormous surge of interest in the area of immunology and immunotherapy, which has been facilitated by our understanding of the molecular basis of gliomas. Although several kinds of immunotherapeutic trials have been undertaken, we still await a great breakthrough in terms of clinical efficacy to prolong the survival time of glioma patients.

Gender, Health and Ageing European Perspectives on Life Course, Health Issues and Social Challenges
Free Download Gender, Health and Ageing: European Perspectives on Life Course, Health Issues and Social Challenges By Vera Lasch Dr. rer. pol., Katja Reimann Ph.D, Gertrud M. Backes Prof. Dr. phil. (auth.), Gertrud M. Backes, Vera Lasch, Katja Reimann (eds.)
2006 | 316 Pages | ISBN: 3531149806 | PDF | 2 MB
The different research fields - gerontology, gender and health - have generated different views, knowledge and foci on ageing, health and gender. It is now necessary to integrate these aspects into research, policy and practice. The objective of this book is to provide an overview of gender, health and ageing. Important theoretical concepts, such as life course and "Lebenslagen" in old age, or differences in men's health, are introduced. It is increasingly important to build a European basis of knowledge, to conduct discussions on European research findings, and to develop European research frameworks. In this volume, central theoretical debates on gender impacts on life course and old-age health, and vital issues of health research in the context of gender and old age are introduced. Specific aspects, such as the impact of gender and age on cardiovascular health, elder abuse and mental health, or care between gender relations, gender roles and gender constructs, are pointed out. Special attention is given to the impact of social, political and economic change in different New EU Member States, like Hungary, Poland and Slovenia.
