Rational Piety and Social Reform in Glasgow The Life, Philosophy, and Political Economy of James Mylne (1757–1839)
Free Download David Fergusson, "Rational Piety and Social Reform in Glasgow: The Life, Philosophy, and Political Economy of James Mylne (1757-1839)"
English | 2015 | ISBN: 1625649975 | EPUB | pages: 316 | 0.8 mb
James Mylne (1757-1839) taught moral philosophy and political economy in Glasgow from 1797 to the mid-1830s. Rational Piety and Social Reform in Glasgow offers readers Mylne's biography, a summary of his lectures on moral philosophy and political economy, several interpretative essays, and a collation of his introductory lecture. Mylne's moral philosophy lectures cover the intellectual and active powers of man and offer an account of his duties to God, neighbor, and self. He diverges from the "moral sense" and "common sense" traditions associated with Francis Hutcheson and Thomas Reid in Glasgow. He reinstates reason as the guiding principle of conscience and argues for utility as the predominant criterion of morality. Mylne was also active among the Whig "friends of Mr. Fox" and in the Glasgow Reform Association, for his theory of the sovereignty of reason drove his view of political reform and the concept of value in his lectures on political economy. In a criticism of Adam Smith, Mylne interprets use-value as prior to exchange value, founding it in lawful desires identifiable by a merchant community. Mylne's political opinions and activity among local political reformers and literary societies exemplify the Glasgow Whig tradition.

Rastafari A Very Short Introduction
Free Download Ennis B. Edmonds, "Rastafari: A Very Short Introduction "
English | ISBN: 0199584524 | 2013 | 160 pages | AZW3 | 17 MB
From its obscure beginnings in Jamaica in the early 1930s, Rastafari has grown into an international socio-religious movement. It is estimated that 700,000 to 1 million people worldwide have embraced Rastafari, and adherents of the movement can be found in most of the major population centers and many outposts of the world. Most believers worship Haile Selassie I, Emperor of Ethiopia (ruled 1930-1974), as God incarnate. They often embrace the spiritual use of cannabis and reject western society, called Babylon. Believers proclaim Africa (also "Zion") as the original birthplace of mankind, and the call to repatriation to Africa is a key tenet. Rastafari: A Very Short Introduction provides an account of this widespread but often poorly understood movement. Ennis B. Edmonds looks at the essential history of Rastafari, including its principles and practices and its internal character and configuration. He examines its global spread, its far-reaching influence on cultural and artistic production in the Caribbean and beyond, and its handling of gender issues.

Rasputin the Rascal Monk
Free Download WilliamLe Queux, "Rasputin the Rascal Monk: Disclosing the Secret Scandal of the Betrayal of Russia by the mock-monk Grichka and the consequent ruin of the Romanoffs. With official documents revealed and recorded for the first time."
English | 2018 | ASIN: B07GS91ZT2 | EPUB | pages: 156 | 0.9 mb
First published in 1917, "Rasputin the Rascal Monk" is a study of Rasputin and his influence over the Russian royal family during the latter years of the Romanov Dynasty. Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin (1869 - 1916) was a Russian mystic and holy man famous for his familiarity with the family of Tsar Nicholas II. He was a controversial character, viewed by some as a mystic, visionary, and prophet; and by others as a religious charlatan. Nonetheless, he garnered significant influence in late imperial Russia. He was assassinated by a group of conservative noblemen who opposed his influence over the Tsars in 1916. Contents include: "Why this Book was Written", "The Cult of the 'Sister-Disciples'", "Scandals at the Winter Palace", "How Rasputin Poisoned the Tsarevitch", "The 'Hidden Hand' of Berlin", "Rasputin's Secret Orders from Berlin", "Rasputin's Secret Instructions from Berlin", "The Description to Spread Epidemics in Russia", "The Mock-Monk Unmasked", etc. Many vintage book such as this are increasingly scarce and expensive. It is with this in mind that we are republishing this volume now in an affordable, modern edition complete with the original text and artwork.
