Leo Strauss on Moses Mendelssohn
Free Download Leo Strauss on Moses Mendelssohn By Leo Straus; Martin D. Yaffe (trans.,ed.)
2012 | 360 Pages | ISBN: 0226922782 | PDF | 2 MB
Moses Mendelssohn (1729-86) was the leading Jewish thinker of the German Enlightenment and the founder of modern Jewish philosophy. His writings, especially his attempt during the Pantheism Controversy to defend the philosophical legacies of Spinoza and Leibniz against F. H. Jacobi's philosophy of faith, captured the attention of a young Leo Strauss and played a critical role in the development of his thought on one of the fundamental themes of his life's work: the conflicting demands of reason and revelation.Leo Strauss on Moses Mendelssohn is a superbly annotated translation of ten introductions written by Strauss to a multi-volume critical edition of Mendelssohn's work. Commissioned in Weimar Germany in the 1920s, the project was suppressed and nearly destroyed during Nazi rule and was not revived until the 1960s. In addition to Strauss's introductions, Martin D. Yaffe has translated Strauss's editorial remarks on each of the passages he annotates in Mendelssohn's texts and brings those together with the introductions themselves. Yaffe has also contributed an extensive interpretive essay that both analyzes the introductions on their own terms and discusses what Strauss writes elsewhere about the broader themes broached in his Mendelssohn studies.Strauss's critique of Mendelssohn represents one of the largest bodies of work by the young Strauss on a single thinker to be made available in English. It illuminates not only a formerly obscure phase in the emergence of his thought but also a critical moment in the history of the German Enlightenment.

Legal Pluralism and Social Change in Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages A Conference in Honor of John Haldon (3)
Free Download Wolfram Brandes, "Legal Pluralism and Social Change in Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages: A Conference in Honor of John Haldon (3) "
English | ISBN: 3465045505 | 2021 | 400 pages | PDF | 12 MB
Throughout his career, Professor John Haldon has been a hinge between different academic cultures, methods, and disciplines. A true scholar of Byzantine society, he has combined meticulous work on texts and material evidence with a holistic approach to social history that has connected the study of the Byzantine world to new methodological perspectives and ever wider horizons for comparison with other political systems and structures across the European and Islamic worlds, from late ancient to early modern times. Based on a conference organized at the Center for Collaborative History of Princeton University in 2018, this book takes stock of Haldon's approach by focusing on the history of law and legal culture in the transformation of the Roman world.

Lectures on Linear Algebra and its Applications
Free Download Lectures on Linear Algebra and its Applications
English | 2023 | ISBN: 3111085406 | 250 Pages | EPUB (True) | 31 MB
The present book is based on the extensive lecture notes of the author and contains a concise course on Linear Algebra. The sections begin with an intuitive presentation, aimed at the beginners, and then often include rather non-trivial topics and exercises. This makes the book suitable for introductory as well as advanced courses on Linear Algebra. The first part of the book deals with the general idea of systems of linear equations, matrices and eigenvectors. Linear systems of differential equations are developed carefully and in great detail. The last chapter gives an overview of applications to other areas of Mathematics, like calculus and differential geometry. A large number of exercises with selected solutions make this a valuable textbook for students of the topic as well as lecturers, preparing a course on Linear Algebra.

Free Download Learning SciPy for numerical and scientific computing : a practical tutorial that guarantees fast, accurate, and easy-to-code solutions to your numerical and scientific computing problems with the power of SciPy and Python By Blanco-Silva, Francisco J
2013 | 136 Pages | ISBN: 1782161627 | PDF | 4 MB
For solving complex problems in mathematics, science, or engineering, SciPy is the solution. Building on your basic knowledge of Python, and using a wealth of examples from many scientific fields, this book is your expert tutor. Overview Perform complex operations with large matrices, including eigenvalue problems, matrix decompositions, or solution to large systems of equations. Step-by-step examples to easily implement statistical analysis and data mining that rivals in performance any of the costly specialized software suites. Plenty of examples of state-of-the-art research problems from all disciplines of science, that prove how simple, yet effective, is to provide solutions based on SciPy. In Detail It's essential to incorporate workflow data and code from various sources in order to create fast and effective algorithms to solve complex problems in science and engineering. Data is coming at us faster, dirtier, and at an ever increasing rate. There is no need to employ difficult-to-maintain code, or expensive mathematical engines to solve your numerical computations anymore. SciPy guarantees fast, accurate, and easy-to-code solutions to your numerical and scientific computing applications. "Learning SciPy for Numerical and Scientific Computing" unveils secrets to some of the most critical mathematical and scientific computing problems and will play an instrumental role in supporting your research. The book will teach you how to quickly and efficiently use different modules and routines from the SciPy library to cover the vast scope of numerical mathematics with its simplistic practical approach that's easy to follow. The book starts with a brief description of the SciPy libraries, showing practical demonstrations for acquiring and installing them on your system. This is followed by the second chapter which is a fun and fast-paced primer to array creation, manipulation, and problem-solving based on these techniques. What you will learn from this book Learn to store and manipulate large arrays of data in any dimension. Accurately evaluate any mathematical function in any given dimension, as well as its integration, and solve systems of ordinary differential equations with ease. Learn to deal with sparse data to perform any known interpolation, extrapolation, or regression scheme on it. Perform statistical analysis, hypothesis test design and resolution, or data mining at high level, including clustering (hierarchical or through vector quantization), and learn to apply them to real-life problems. Get to grips with signal processing - filtering audio, images, or video to extract information, features, or removing components. Effectively learn about window functions, filters, spectral theory, LTY systems theory, morphological operations, and image interpolation. Acquaint yourself with the power of distances, Delaunay triangulations, and Voronoi diagrams for computational geometry, and apply them to various engineering problems. Wrap code in other languages directly into your SciPy-based workflow, as well as incorporating data written in proprietary format (audio or image, for example), or from other software suites like Matlab/Octave. Approach A step-by-step practical tutorial with plenty of examples on research-based problems from various areas of science, that prove how simple, yet effective, it is to provide solutions based on SciPy.
