Antimicrobial Drug Resistance Mechanisms of Drug Resistance, Volume 1 (Repost)
Free Download Douglas Mayers, "Antimicrobial Drug Resistance: Mechanisms of Drug Resistance, Volume 1"
English | 2009 | pages: 673 | ISBN: 1603275924, 1627038663 | PDF | 15,5 mb
This ? rst edition of Antimicrobial Drug Resistance grew out of a desire by the editors and authors to have a comprehensive resource of information on antimicrobial drug resistance that encompassed the current information available for bacteria, fungi, protozoa and viruses. We believe that this information will be of value to clinicians, epidemiologists, microbiologists, virologists, parasitologists, public health authorities, medical students and fellows in training. We have endeavored to provide this information in a style which would be accessible to the broad community of persons who are concerned with the impact of drug resistance in our cl- ics and across the broader global communities. Antimicrobial Drug Resistance is divided into Volume 1 which has sections covering a general overview of drug resistance and mechanisms of drug resistance ? rst for classes of drugs and then by individual microbial agents including bacteria, fungi, protozoa and viruses. Volume 2 addresses clinical, epidemiologic and public health aspects of drug resistance along with an overview of the conduct and interpretation of speci? c drug resistance assays. Together, these two volumes offer a comprehensive source of information on drug resistance issues by the experts in each topic.

Anselm of Canterbury (1033–1109). Philosophical Theology and Ethics Proceedings of the Third International Conference of Medie
Free Download Anselm of Canterbury (1033-1109). Philosophical Theology and Ethics: Proceedings of the Third International Conference of Medieval Philosophy, held at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), Porto Alegre / Brazil (02-04 Septe By Roberto Hofmeister Pich
2011 | 268 Pages | ISBN: 2503542654 | PDF | 12 MB
This volume collects several studies on Anselm of Canterbury's philosophical theology and ethics originally presented at the Third International Conference of Medieval Philosophy at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), Porto Alegre / Brazil, 02-04 September 2009. In commemoration of the 900th anniversary of Anselm's death, the conference facilitated a unique exchange of ideas among Latin American, North American and European scholars on current issues in Anselmian scholarship. The papers included in the volume concern diverse areas of interest: Anselm's method in different phases of his career and his attitude towards philosophy; Anselm's contribution to logic and semantics in De grammatico; the continuing challenge of interpreting his "proof" in Proslogion (revisited with an eye into contemporary accounts of his unum argumentum); the topic of guilt and punishment in Anselm's works, as well as the understanding of his moral-theological project, in dialogue with contemporary discussions of deontology; the fundamental aspects of his view on human being; the reception of Anselm's theory of perfections in Duns Scotus's metaphysics; and the place of Anselm's thought in Karl Barth's understanding of theology. These contributions, through their engagement with Anselm's works, seek to shed light on philosophical and theological issues of perennial interest. The volume contain the contributions of R.H. Pich (Porto Alegre), C. Viola (Paris), S. Magnavacca (Buenos Aires) , J. Müller (Bochum), Th. S. Leite (Porto Alegre), G. Wyllie (Rio de Janeiro), J. M .C. Macedo (Porto), A. Culleton (São Leopoldo), M. Tracey (Lisle - IL), L.A. De Boni (Porto Alegre), G. K. Hasselhoff (Bochum).

Animal Welfare in a Pandemic
Free Download Animal Welfare in a Pandemic: What Does COVID-19 Tell us for the Future?
English | 2024 | ISBN: 1032521090 | 250 Pages | PDF (True) | 65 MB
Animal Welfare in a Pandemic explores the impact of COVID-19 on a wide array of animals, from those in the wild to companion and captive animals. During the height of the pandemic, a range of animals were infected, and many died, but this was hard to predict, even using up-to-date bioinformatics. Lockdowns around the world had, and continue to have, a major effect on animals' welfare, influencing pet ownership and care, as well as impacting on the work of conservation institutes due to the lack of visitors and funding and lack of tourist presence in the wild which impacted on anti-poaching efforts. Some of the vast amount of personal protection equipment (PPE) that was distributed was discarded, creating both dangers and occasional opportunities for wild animals. With the rollout of human vaccines, some countries started developing animal vaccines, only some of which were deployed. In summary, the pandemic had a wide-ranging influence on animal welfare around the world. This is reviewed to highlight what can be learned to protect and enhance animal welfare in future epidemics/pandemics, and contribute to a genuinely One Health approach where the health and welfare of both humans and animals are considered holistically.

Animal Others On Ethics, Ontology, and Animal Life
Free Download Animal Others: On Ethics, Ontology, and Animal Life By H Peter Steeves
1999 | 294 Pages | ISBN: 0791443094 | PDF | 2 MB
Animal Others brings together original contributions that explore the status of animals from the continental philosophy perspective. Examined are the moral status of animals, the question of animal minds, an understanding of what it is to be an animal and what it is to be with an animal, as well as the roles animals play in the work of philosophers such as Husserl, Heidegger, Nietzsche, Merleau-Ponty, and Derrida. Those already immersed in continental philosophy will find the subject matter of the animal to be a new interest and a promising new venture. Analytic philosophers and other academics will be rewarded by a different approach to old questions, while the general reader interested in animal rights issues will discover new arguments to back up their positions and fresh challenges which may question long-held beliefs. Contributors include Ralph R. Acampora, Elizabeth A. Behnke, Lynda Birke, Carleton Dallery, James G. Hart, Monika Langer, Steven W. Laycock, Alphonso Lingis, William McNeill, Luciana Parisi, H. Peter Steeves, and David Wood.

In Angry Optimist, biographer Lisa Rogak charts his unlikely rise to stardom. She follows him from his early days growing up in New Jersey, through his years as a struggling standup comic in New York, and on to the short-lived but acclaimed The Jon Stewart Show. And she charts his humbling string of near-misses―passed over as a replacement for shows hosted by Conan O'Brien, Tom Snyder, and even the fictional Larry Sanders―before landing on a half-hour comedy show that at the time was still finding its footing amidst roiling internal drama.

Ancient Urban Planning in the Mediterranean New Research Directions
Free Download Samantha L. Martin-McAuliffe, "Ancient Urban Planning in the Mediterranean: New Research Directions"
English | ISBN: 1472427343 | 2017 | 184 pages | PDF | 39 MB
New Directions in Urban Planning in the Ancient Mediterranean assembles the most up-to-date research on the design and construction of ancient cities in the wider Mediterranean. In particular, this edited collection reappraises and sheds light on 'lost' Classical plans. Whether intentional or not, each ancient plan has the capacity to embody specific messages linked to such notions as heritage and identity. Over millennia, cities may be divested of their buildings and monuments, and can experience periods of dramatic rebuilding, but their plans often have the capacity to endure. As such, this volume focuses on Greek and Roman grid traces - both literal and figurative. This rich selection of innovative studies explores the ways that urban plans can assimilate into the collective memory of cities and smaller settlements. In doing so, it also highlights how collective memory adapts to or is altered by the introduction of re-aligned plans and newly constructed monuments.

Ancestral North Spirituality and Cultural Imagination in Nordic Ritual Folk Music
Free Download Ross Hagen, "Ancestral North: Spirituality and Cultural Imagination in Nordic Ritual Folk Music "
English | ISBN: 1666917567 | 2024 | 252 pages | EPUB, PDF | 35 MB + 4 MB
Ancestral North: Spirituality and Cultural Imagination in Nordic Ritual Folk Music offers a detailed exploration of Nordic ritual folk music, a music scene focused on the revival of ancient folkways and archaic music that has found remarkable popularity around the globe. Once the domain of Viking reenactors and neopagan practitioners, the niche sonic and visual aesthetics of this music have found widespread visibility through a new generation of popular films, television series, and video games. The authors argue that many of these musical and media products connect with longstanding cultural attitudes about the Nordic region that conceive of it as wild, exotic, and dangerous, while also being a place of honor, community, and virtue. As such, the Nordic region and its music often becomes a vessel for reactionary escapes from all manner of modern discontentment. However, the authors also posit that spending time re-creating the music of an imaginary past offers participants the possibility for engagement and re-enchantment in the multicultural present.
