The Theological Thought of Fazlur Rahman A Modern Mutakallim
Free Download Ahad M Ahmed, "The Theological Thought of Fazlur Rahman: A Modern Mutakallim"
English | 2017 | ISBN: 9670526345 | EPUB | pages: 310 | 0.3 mb
Fazlur Rahman was one of the most influential Muslim thinkers of the 20th Century. His encyclopedic understanding of both the Islamic and Western traditions rendered him as most suited for the task of tajdid ul-din (intellectual and academic revivification, reformism and modernism). As a pragmatist he believed that 'social change' could not be translated into reality without an active, positive and vital engagement with the present world which stood as the élan of Islamic morality and ethics. The present work attempts to critically analyze and deconstruct Fazlur Rahman's thought in order to ascertain the key principles that govern the oeuvre of his work. Further, the author has provided a 'bridge' to facilitate an empathetic introduction to Fazlur Rahman's life, person and thought which are essential for understanding him and his work. Also, the prejudice he faced from the orthodox ulama' and political Islam activists in Pakistan foreshowed a biased misrepresentation of his work qua Orientalism and Western Imperialist agenda. As a representative of modern Islam it seems plausible that serious attention must be given to 'reconstruct' kalām whilst standing in the midst of Western theology in a postmodern time and kalām in its post-medieval phase. Thus, Fazlur Rahman was not simply a falsafi which the majority hold him to be but also a mutakallim in the full-blooded sense.

The Teapot Dome Scandal How Big Oil Bought the Harding White House and Tried to Steal the Country
Free Download Laton McCartney, "The Teapot Dome Scandal: How Big Oil Bought the Harding White House and Tried to Steal the Country"
English | 2008 | pages: 384 | ISBN: 0812973372, 1400063167 | EPUB | 0,9 mb
In this amazing and at times ribald story, Laton McCartney tells how Big Oil handpicked Warren G. Harding, an obscure Ohio senator, to serve as our twenty-third president. Harding and his "oil cabinet" made it possible for cronies to secure vast fuel reserves that had been set aside for use by the U.S. Navy. In exchange, the oilmen paid off senior government officials, bribed newspaper ✅Publishers, and covered the GOP campaign debt. When news of the scandal finally emerged, the consequences were disastrous. Drawing on contemporary records newly made available to McCartney, The Teapot Dome Scandal reveals a shocking, revelatory picture of just how far-reaching the affair was, how high the stakes, and how powerful the conspirators-all told in a dazzling narrative style.

The Skeptic Way Sextus Empiricus's Outlines of Pyrrhonism
Free Download Benson Mates, "The Skeptic Way: Sextus Empiricus's Outlines of Pyrrhonism"
English | ISBN: 0195092139 | | 352 pages | PDF | 5 MB
The Outlines of Pyrrhonism by the 2nd century A.D. Greek physician Sextus Empiricus was immensely influential in the history of Western philosophy. The rediscovery and publication of this work in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries led directly to the skepticism of Montaigne, Gassendi, Bayle, Descartes, Berkeley, Hume, and others, and eventually to the preoccupation of modern philosophy with attempts to refute or otherwise combat philosophical skepticism. In recent years, however, it has become apparent that Pyrrhonism-the form of skepticism professed by Sextus-is in several important respects quite different from the modern forms of skepticism to which the writings of Sextus have given rise. Some of these differences are of particular philosophic interest because they seem to render the ancient form immune to many of the standard responses to skepticism that are made today.

The Secret Life of Cities The Social Reproduction of Everyday Life
Free Download The Secret Life of Cities: The Social Reproduction of Everyday Life By Helen Jarvis; Andy C. Pratt; Peter Cheng-Chong Wu
2016 | 199 Pages | ISBN: 0130873187 | PDF | 13 MB
Contemporary urbanisation has two faces: global flows of people, money and information, and that of localised social and economic disparities. Recent research has focused on the headlines of global cities as control centres of the world economy, and social and economic shock waves that have raged through cities and regions, but less attention has been paid to the secret life of cities, and the changing nature of everyday life in the wake of such changes. This book challenges current research and policy agendas recommending spatial concentration and relocation as a solution to the problems of environmental sustainability and social dislocation. Instead, this book highlights the key linkages between social and environmental problems, it argues that neither are likely to be resolved with a simple spatial fix. The book draws attention to local contexts of contemporary urbanisation emphasising consideration of policy making from the perspective of the household as a key unit of analysis in identifying links between labour and housing markets, transport and leisure. This book draws upon detailed household interviews about the daily experience of life in a global city. It illustrates the dilemmas and solutions that people routinely find in order to go on in their lives. It shows that these local fixes that are managed at the level of the household work in spite of, and sometimes against, existing policies aimed at sustainability. It concludes that policy making needs to be radically overhauled in order to address the integrated nature of people's everyday lives.

The Scientific Nomenclature of Birds in the Upper Midwest
Free Download James Sandrock, "The Scientific Nomenclature of Birds in the Upper Midwest "
English | ISBN: 1609382250 | 2014 | 192 pages | PDF | 2 MB
The translation and explanation of genus and species names yield markers to help us identify birds in the field as well as remember distinctive traits. Having a basic understanding of the scientific and common names of birds reveals insights into their color, behavior, habitat, or geography. Knowing that Cyanocitta means "blue chatterer" and cristata means "crested, tufted" or that Anas means "a duck" and clypeata means "armed with a shield" tells you just about everything you need to identify a Blue Jay or a Northern Shoveler. In this portable reference book, James Sandrock and Jean Prior explain the science and history behind the names of some 450 birds of the Upper Midwest states of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North and South Dakota, Ohio, and Wisconsin. Since many of these birds occur throughout the United States, this handbook can also be used by birders in other parts of the country.
