Artificial Intelligence for Sustainability
Free Download Artificial Intelligence for Sustainability: Innovations in Business and Financial Services
English | 2024 | ISBN: 3031499786 | 324 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 11 MB
In light of the climate crisis, businesses are expected to embrace sustainability to reduce their negative impacts on the environment and society, while at the same time strengthening their organisations' positive impacts. Managing this alongside the traditional requirements of business requires careful handling, and it is small wonder that some are heralding the advantages posed by artificial intelligence (AI) as the missing piece of the puzzle. This edited book aims to present a balanced discussion of the benefits and costs of using AI for the natural environment and society, including an analysis of its potential to help meet the UN's Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals. Researchers, practitioners, regulators, and entrepreneurs at the forefront of sustainable AI solutions share insights into the different sustainable applications of AI and highlight how these new developments may affect and contribute to our fight against climate change and address further environmental and social challenges. This volume will be of great interest to scholars and students of digital business and new technologies, sustainability, and strategy.

Art and Money
Free Download Peter Stupples, "Art and Money"
English | ISBN: 1443876216 | 2015 | 198 pages | PDF | 2 MB
Art and money have much in common. Both are spheres of social activity that carry symbolic values. A coin is simply a piece of metal, stamped with signs to give it symbolic meaning, to give it a value, a value that changes with the vicissitudes of its economic life, or, when no longer legal tender, with its life as a collectable. A painting is a piece of canvas, stretched on a frame to make it taut, which is then covered with pigment, brushed with an image, a sign that gives it value, a value that changes with the vicissitudes of its aesthetic and symbolic life, with its commodity value. Art and money come together whenever the values of both are exchanged within a marketin trade between artist and client/patron, between dealer and customer, between competitors for social authority. These relationships of art and money are examined by a number of writers from a variety of perspectivesfrom different periods in history, within different cultures, and engaging with different media of artfrom Renaissance Italy to Pop Art and the recent flourishing of the art of Australian Aborigines, from critiques of the market and contemporary art to the funding of art education, from an examination of the values that are being bought and sold to ways for artists to avoid an over-engagement with the money economy, and finally the relationship between art, national identity and coinage.

Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics
Free Download Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics By Aristotle
2011 | 368 Pages | ISBN: 0226026744 | PDF | 6 MB
The Nicomachean Ethics is one of Aristotle's most widely read and influential works. Ideas central to ethics-that happiness is the end of human endeavor, that moral virtue is formed through action and habituation, and that good action requires prudence-found their most powerful proponent in the person medieval scholars simply called "the Philosopher." Drawing on their intimate knowledge of Aristotle's thought, Robert C. Bartlett and Susan D. Collins have produced here an English-language translation of the Ethics that is as remarkably faithful to the original as it is graceful in its rendering. Aristotle is well known for the precision with which he chooses his words, and in this elegant translation his work has found its ideal match. Bartlett and Collins provide copious notes and a glossary providing context and further explanation for students, as well as an introduction and a substantial interpretive essay that sketch central arguments of the work and the seminal place of Aristotle's Ethics in his political philosophy as a whole. The Nicomachean Ethics has engaged the serious interest of readers across centuries and civilizations-of peoples ancient, medieval, and modern; pagan, Christian, Muslim, and Jewish-and this new edition will take its place as the standard English-language translation.

Aristotle On Poetics
Free Download Aristotle On Poetics By Aristotle, Seth Benardete, Michael Davis
2002 | 144 Pages | ISBN: 1587310252 | PDF | 9 MB
Aristotle's much-translated On Poetics is the earliest and arguably the best treatment that we possess of tragedy as a literary form. The late Seth Benardete and Michael Davis have translated it anew with a view to rendering Aristotle's text into English as precisely as possible. A literal translation has long been needed, for in order to excavate the argument of On Poetics one has to attend not simply to what is said on the surface but also to the various puzzles, questions, and peculiarities that emerge only on the level of how Aristotle says what he says and thereby leads one to revise and deepen one's initial understanding of the intent of the argument. As On Poetics is about how tragedy ought to be composed, it should not be surprising that it turns out to be a rather artful piece of literature in its own right. Benardete and Davis supplement their edition of On Poetics with extensive notes and appendices. They explain nuances of the original that elude translation, and they provide translations of passages found elsewhere in Aristotle's works as well as in those of other ancient authors that prove useful in thinking through the argument of On Poetics both in terms of its treatment of tragedy and in terms of its broader concerns. By following the connections Aristotle Descriptions between On Poetics and his other works, readers will be in a position to appreciate the centrality of this work for his entire thought. In an introduction that sketches the overall interpretation of On Poetics presented in hisThe Poetry of Philosophy (St. Augustine's Press, 1999; see p. 33 of this catalogue), Davis argues that, while On Poetics is certainly about tragedy, it has a further concern extending beyond poetry to the very structure of the human soul in its relation to what is, and that Aristotle reveals in the form of his argument the true character of human action.

Aristotle Nicomachean Ethics (Cambridge Texts in the History of Philosophy)
Free Download Aristotle: Nicomachean Ethics (Cambridge Texts in the History of Philosophy) By Aristotle
2000 | 259 Pages | ISBN: 0521635462 | PDF | 2 MB
Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics, based on lectures that he gave in Athens in the fourth century BCE, is one of the most significant works in moral philosophy, and has profoundly influenced the whole course of subsequent philosophical endeavor. Topics covered include the role of luck in human wellbeing, responsibility, courage, justice, friendship and pleasure. This accessible new translation follows the Greek text closely and also provides a non-Greek reader with something of the flavor of the original. The volume also includes a historical and philosophical introduction and notes on further reading.
