Mantzavinos, "A Dialogue on Institutions " English | ISBN: 3030630153 | 2021 | 74 pages | PDF | 1066 KB This book consists of a dialogue between two interlocutors, Pablo and a student, who discuss a great range of issues in social philosophy and political theory, and in particular, the emergence, working properties and economic effects of institutions. It uses the dialogical form to make philosophy more accessible, but also to show how ideas develop through intellectual interaction. The fact that one of the interlocutors is the "student" in a place in the real world makes the dialogue quasi-fictive in character and enables the active engagement of the reader. After all, we are all philosophers and we develop our own philosophy by exchanging views and arguments. The dialogue form is and should remain the principal form of philosophizing, since ideas, like butterflies, do not merely exist - they develop. This is certainly the case in actual philosophical interaction, and it can be the case in written philosophical exposition. Although the dialogue does not presuppose prior acquaintance with the respective philosophical and social scientific literature under discussion in this book, it makes arguments more accessible, and conveys the feeling that there are no definite solutions to philosophical problems. ![]() Free Download A Cultural History of Late Meiji Japan: Empire and Decadence by Alistair Swale English | 2023 | ISBN: 3031436458 | 224 Pages | True PDF | 6.6 MB ![]() Free Download Jon Mundy PhD, "A Course in Mysticism and Miracles: Begin Your Spiritual Adventure" English | 2018 | ISBN: 1578636019 | EPUB | pages: 320 | 0.9 mb In this book, Jon Mundy explores the tenets of mysticism and the teachings of A Course in Miracles, a book now regarded as a modern spiritual classic. Using original archival sources to reveal the intricacies of local and national policy processes, weak rural housing performances are shown to owe more to national governance regimes than local under-performance. Looking `behind the scenes' at policy processes highlights neglected principles in national governance, and shows how investigating rural housing is fundamental to understanding the national scene. With original insights and a new analytical perspective, this volume offers evidence and conclusions that challenge mainstream assumptions in public policy, housing, rural studies and planning. ![]() Free Download Maryam Ghorbankarimi, "A Colourful Presence " English | ISBN: 1443882720 | 2015 | 225 pages | PDF | 3 MB This book analyzes the changes in the representation of women in Iranian cinema since the 1960s, and investigates the reasons and motives for this. Iranian cinema, both before and after the Islamic Revolution, has been closely monitored by the ruling power, and has been utilized to relay messages and information that comply with the ruling ideology. However, it was only after the 1979 Revolution and the subsequent legitimization of cinema by the Islamic rule that cinema became widely accessible to the general public. Within this context, this book explores the changing roles of women in film production and their representation in films made between the 1960s and 2000s. Although some aspects of womens lives became stricter after the revolution, it was in the late 1980s that women took a prominent role both behind and in front of the camera for the first time. It is demonstrated here that such shifts were due to several factors, including factionalism within the Islamic Republic, shifts in the Iranian film industry, and the emergence of a group of highly educated film production teams, in addition to the fuller integration of women into the film industry, which is analyzed in particular detail. This study explores a number of representative female-centric films, with a focus on their cultural, social and cinematic contexts. Discussing these films with respect to the representation of women, it uses textual analysis as its base methodology. Interviews conducted with filmmakers and people active in the industry also serve to place the films into their historical, social, and political context. ![]() Free Download A City on Mars: Can we settle space, should we settle space, and have we really thought this through? by Kelly Weinersmith, Zach Weinersmith English | November 7, 2023 | ISBN: 1984881728 | 448 pages | MOBI | 30 Mb * THE INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER * Scientific American's #1 Book for 2023 * A New York Times Book Review Editors' Choice *A Times Best Science and Environment Book of 2023 * A Tor.com Best Book of 2023 * ![]() Free Download Sam Juneau, "A Chateau of One's Own: Restoration Misadventures In France" English | 2007 | pages: 320 | ISBN: 1840246413 | EPUB | 2,8 mb Sam and Bud were ordinary first-time home buyers in their early thirties. Their intention, in moving to France, was to create a simple life in a place where they could spend time with their children. The home they actually bought was a 17th century chateau in the Loire valley withmore than 30rooms. Chateau Du Bonchamps had been the seat of noble families as far back as 1507. With only modest savings, Sam and Bud launched the exciting project of restoring this extraordinary building to its former glory. Over several years they renovated 10,000 square feet of house, installed countless bathrooms, painted 156 windows, put the 40-acre park and gardens into some semblance of order, and started a bed and breakfast against resistance from the locals. Their hard work prevailed; their chateau quadrupled in value. The things we dream do not always fit nicely with the realities of everyday life. This is an insightful glimpse of what it truly means to leave everything behind to pursue a dream. ![]() Free Download A Brief History of Thailand: Monarchy, War and Resilience: The Fascinating Story of the Gilded Kingdom at the Heart of Asia (Brief History of Asia Series) by Richard A. Even more transgressive for the French political establishment, he views himself as the legitimate heir of Charles de Gaulle - the sanctified World War II resistance leader and founder of the Fifth Republic. But a look at de Gaulle's political history, particularly his policy towards French Algeria in the years from 1958-1962 and his declaration that he "would like there to be more French babies and fewer immigrants," reveal the extent of Zemmour's affinities with de Gaulle. |
