Roman Theories of Translation Surpassing the Source
Free Download Siobhán McElduff, "Roman Theories of Translation: Surpassing the Source"
English | 2013 | pages: 277 | ISBN: 0415816769, 1138243108 | PDF | 1,9 mb
For all that Cicero is often seen as the father of translation theory, his and other Roman comments on translation are often divorced from the complicated environments that produced them. The first book-length study in English of its kind, Roman Theories of Translation: Surpassing the Source explores translation as it occurred in Rome and presents a complete, culturally integrated discourse on its theories from 240 BCE to the 2nd Century CE. Author Siobhán McElduff analyzes Roman methods of translation, connects specific events and controversies in the Roman Empire to larger cultural discussions about translation, and delves into the histories of various Roman translators, examining how their circumstances influenced their experience of translation.

Revolving Architecture A History of Buildings That Rotate, Swivel, and Pivot
Free Download Chad Randl, "Revolving Architecture: A History of Buildings That Rotate, Swivel, and Pivot"
English | ISBN: 1568986815 | 2008 | 208 pages | PDF | 17 MB
Alternately lauded as the future of architecture or dismissed as pure folly, revolving buildings are a fascinating missing chapter in architectural history with surprising relevance to issues in contemporary architectural design. Rotating structures have been employed to solve problems and create effects that stationary buildings can't achieve. Rotating buildings offeredever-changing vistas and made interior spaces more flexible and adaptable. They were used to impress visitors, treatpatients, and improve the green qualities of a structure by keeping particular rooms in or out of the sun.

Recent Progress in Intersection Theory
Free Download Recent Progress in Intersection Theory by Geir Ellingsrud, William Fulton, Angelo Vistoli
English | PDF | 2000 | 327 Pages | ISBN : 081764122X | 24.6 MB
The articles in this volume are an outgrowth of an International Confer ence in Intersection Theory that took place in Bologna, Italy (December 1997). In a somewhat unorthodox format aimed at both the mathematical community as well as summer school students, talks were research-oriented as well as partly expository. There were four series of expository talks by the following people: M. Brion, University of Grenoble, on Equivariant Chow groups and applications; H. Flenner, University of Bochum, on Joins and intersections; E. M. Friedlander, Northwestern University, on Intersection products for spaces of algebraic cycles; R. Laterveer, University of Strasbourg, on Bigraded Chow (co)homology. Four introductory papers cover the following topics and bring the reader to the forefront of research: 1) the excess intersection algorithm of Stuckrad and Vogel, combined with the deformation to the normal cone, together with many of its geo metric applications; 2) new and very important homotopy theory techniques that are now used in intersection theory; 3) the Bloch-Beilinson filtration and the theory of motives; 4) algebraic stacks, the modern language of moduli theory. Other research articles concern such active fields as stable maps and Gromov-Witten invariants, deformation theory of complex varieties, and others. Organizers of the conference were Rudiger Achilles, Mirella Manaresi, and Angelo Vistoli, all from the University of Bologna; the scientific com mittee consisted of Geir Ellingsrud, University of Oslo, William Fulton, University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, and Angelo Vistoli. The conference was financed by the European Union (contract no.

Real and Stochastic Analysis New Perspectives
Free Download Real and Stochastic Analysis: New Perspectives by M. M. Rao
English | PDF | 2004 | 411 Pages | ISBN : 081764332X | 45.9 MB
As in the case of the two previous volumes published in 1986 and 1997, the purpose of this monograph is to focus the interplay between real (functional) analysis and stochastic analysis show their mutual benefits and advance the subjects. The presentation of each article, given as a chapter, is in a research-expository style covering the respective topics in depth. In fact, most of the details are included so that each work is essentially self contained and thus will be of use both for advanced graduate students and other researchers interested in the areas considered. Moreover, numerous new problems for future research are suggested in each chapter. The presented articles contain a substantial number of new results as well as unified and simplified accounts of previously known ones. A large part of the material cov ered is on stochastic differential equations on various structures, together with some applications. Although Brownian motion plays a key role, (semi-) martingale theory is important for a considerable extent. Moreover, noncommutative analysis and probabil ity have a prominent role in some chapters, with new ideas and results. A more detailed outline of each of the articles appears in the introduction and outline to assist readers in selecting and starting their work. All chapters have been reviewed.
