Breiten Raum nimmt dann die Anwendung der Statistik auf viele verschiedenartige Systeme ein; zu diesen Systemen gehören ideale und reale Gase, das Elektronengas im Metall, die Gitterschwingungen im Kristall und die elektromagnetische Strahlung in einem Plasma. Im Rahmen einer Einführung in das Gebiet der Phasenübergänge werden unter anderem das van der Waals-Gas, der Ferromagnetismus, die Landau-Theorie und die Skalengesetze behandelt. Schließlich werden noch kurz irreversible Prozesse diskutiert.
