Islamic Religious Authority in a Modern Age Australian and Global Perspectives
Free Download Shaheen Amid Whyte, "Islamic Religious Authority in a Modern Age: Australian and Global Perspectives"
English | ISBN: 9819979307 | 2024 | 323 pages | EPUB, PDF | 4 MB + 6 MB
This book situates Australian Muslim experiences of religious authority within the global context of Islam in the modern world. While drawing on examples of Muslim-majority states, new empirical findings indicate the growing diversity of Muslim religious actors in Australia, as well as the contextual realities shaping the way religious authority is legitimised and contested in democratic and authoritarian environments. In particular, the study challenges homogenous articulations of Islamic religious authority in unearthing new voices, epistemologies and socio-political factors shaping Muslim attitudes and experiences of religious authority. The book fills important gaps in the field, such as intra-Muslim relations, female religious authority, digital Islam and the relationship between traditional ulama, reformists and Muslim intellectuals in the West.

Invisible Victims Homelessness and the Growing Security Gap
Free Download Invisible Victims: Homelessness and the Growing Security Gap By Laura Huey
2012 | 192 Pages | ISBN: 1442643285 | PDF | 2 MB
Despite Western society's preoccupation with safety and protection, its most vulnerable members still lack access to the level of security that many of us take for granted. In this trailblazing study, Laura Huey illustrates the issue of a 'security gap' faced by increasing homeless populations: while they are among the most likely victims of crime, they are also among the least served by existing forms of state and private security.Invisible Victims presents the first comprehensive, integrated study of the risks faced by homeless people and their attempts to find safety and security in often dangerous environments. Huey draws not only on current debates on security within criminology, but also on a decade's worth of her own field research on the victimization and policing of the homeless. A theoretically and empirically informed examination of the myriad issues affecting the homeless, Invisible Victims makes a compelling case for society to provide necessary services and, above all, a basic level of security for this population.

Investing in a Sustainable World Why GREEN Is the New Color of Money on Wall Street
Free Download Matthew Kiernan, "Investing in a Sustainable World: Why GREEN Is the New Color of Money on Wall Street"
English | 2008 | pages: 320 | ISBN: 0814410928 | PDF | 2,8 mb
For business and investors, there's no doubt about it: The smart money is going green...and the growing movement toward ecologically forward-thinking companies is quickly becoming bigger and bigger. What may be surprising to some is that socially responsible organizations aren't just doing the right thing for the environment, they are also paying off financially, making their investors money and increasing the bottom line. Investing in a Sustainable World offers clear proof, through facts, figures, and hard documentation, that "going green" leads directly to better stock market performance...and that investors and companies who ignore it will, in fact, lose money. The book reveals the most powerful global mega-trends-from the ongoing focus on emerging markets to natural resource depletion-which are transforming the very basis on which companies will compete, and offers an approach to sustainability-enhanced investing beneficial to both investors and companies. Revolutionary and backed by undeniable statistics, this book shows the clear link between sustainability initiatives and clear-cut profitability.

Inverse Problems in Global Flow Diagnostics (2024)
Free Download Inverse Problems in Global Flow Diagnostics by Tianshu Liu , Zemin Cai
English | EPUB (True) | 2023 (2024 Edition) | 342 Pages | ISBN : 3031424735 | 117.4 MB
This book describes unified image-based measurement methods (theories, numerical methods, and algorithms) to determine the important physical quantities of complex flows in engineering and natural systems, including velocity, pressure, temperature, heat transfer, and skin friction. It presents a systematical study of the inverse problems in global flow diagnostics in a unified framework of the variational formulations. The authors further illustrate the main physical quantities in fluid mechanics, including velocity, pressure, skin friction and surface heat flux, extracted from flow visualization images obtained in experiments and observations. The developed methods are applicable in various image-based flow measurements in diverse disciplines ranging from fluid mechanics/aerodynamics to plenary sciences.

Introduction to the Literary Art of the Gospel of John A Biblical Approach
Free Download Paul Jaesuk Jo, "Introduction to the Literary Art of the Gospel of John: A Biblical Approach"
English | ISBN: 1666735558 | 2022 | 232 pages | EPUB | 3 MB
The Gospel of John is a magnificent book. Intricate fabrics interweave its beautiful robe and its material is a finely twisted linen of many colors. Throughout the history of the church, interpreters have long been captivated by its loveliness and power. Many modern interpreters, however, would not hesitate to call it puzzling, confusing, or ridden with riddles at least. "What is John?" is therefore a fascinating question that lingers.

Introduction to Statistical Physics
Free Download Introduction to Statistical Physics By Kerson Huang
2001 | 288 Pages | ISBN: 0748409424 | DJVU | 3 MB
Statistical physics is a core component of most undergraduate (and some post-graduate) physics degree courses. It is primarily concerned with the behavior of matter in bulk-from boiling water to the superconductivity of metals. Ultimately, it seeks to uncover the laws governing random processes, such as the snow on your TV screen. This essential new textbook guides the reader quickly and critically through a statistical view of the physical world, including a wide range of physical applications to illustrate the methodology. It moves from basic examples to more advanced topics, such as broken symmetry and the Bose-Einstein equation. To accompany the text, the author, a renowned expert in the field, has written a Solutions Manual/Instructor's Guide, available free of charge to lecturers who adopt this book for their courses. Introduction to Statistical Physics will appeal to students and researchers in physics, applied mathematics and statistics.

Introduction To The Lattice Boltzmann Method, An
Free Download Introduction To The Lattice Boltzmann Method, An: A Numerical Method For Complex Boundary And Moving Boundary Flows by Takaji Inamuro, Masato Yoshino, Kosuke Suzuki
English | November 23, 2021 | ISBN: 9811240515 | 166 pages | MOBI | 15 Mb
The book introduces the fundamentals and applications of the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) for incompressible viscous flows. It is written clearly and easy to understand for graduate students and researchers. The book is organized as follows. In Chapter 1, the SRT- and MRT-LBM schemes are derived from the discrete Boltzmann equation for lattice gases and the relation between the LBM and the Navier-Stokes equation is explained by using the asymptotic expansion (not the Chapman-Enskog expansion). Chapter 2 presents the lattice kinetic scheme (LKS) which is an extension method of the LBM and can save memory because of needlessness for storing the velocity distribution functions. In addition, an improved LKS which can stably simulate high Reynolds number flows is presented. In Chapter 3, the LBM combined with the immersed boundary method (IB-LBM) is presented. The IB-LBM is well suitable for moving boundary flows. In Chapter 4, the two-phase LBM is explained from the point of view of the difficulty in computing two-phase flows with large density ratio. Then, a two-phase LBM for large density ratios is presented. In Appendix, sample codes (available for download) are given for users.

Intoxication in the Ancient Greek and Roman World
Free Download Alan Sumler, "Intoxication in the Ancient Greek and Roman World"
English | ISBN: 1666920142 | 2023 | 172 pages | EPUB, PDF | 338 KB + 1470 KB
Intoxication in the Ancient Greek and Roman World considers the psychotropic plants used in the ancient world and ancient attitudes towards intoxication. Alan Sumler surveys primary Greek and Roman sources for noteworthy mentions of ancient intoxicants like hellebore, mandrake, deadly nightshade, thorn apple, opium poppy, cannabis, wine, and other substances and reveals how psychoactive drugs were used in ancient Greek and Roman religion, medicine, magic, artistic inspiration, and recreation. Interpreted through the lens of modern-day scholarship from Classics, philosophy, and ethnobotany, the primary sources illuminate how commonplace psychotropic plants and drugs were in the ancient Greek and Roman world and-given different contexts for psychotropic drug usage-what attitudes these societies held about the appropriateness of intoxication.
