E. MacPhee English | PDF | 1999 | 402 Pages | ISBN : 0306460920 | 49.3 MB "Near time" -an interval that spans the last 100,000 years or so of earth history-qualifies as a remarkable period for many reasons. From an anthropocentric point of view, the out standing feature of near time is the fact that the evolution, cultural diversification, and glob al spread of Homo sapiens have all occurred within it. From a wider biological perspective, however, the hallmark of near time is better conceived of as being one of enduring, repeat ed loss. The point is important. Despite the sense of uniqueness implicit in phrases like "the biodiversity crisis," meant to convey the notion that the present bout of extinctions is by far the worst endured in recent times, substantial losses have occurred throughout near time. In the majority of cases, these losses occurred when, and only when, people began to ex pand across areas that had never before experienced their presence. Although the explana tion for these correlations in time and space may seem obvious, it is one thing to rhetori cally observe that there is a connection between humans and recent extinctions, and quite another to demonstrate it scientifically. How should this be done? Traditionally, the study of past extinctions has fallen largely to researchers steeped in such disciplines as paleontology, systematics, and paleoecology. The evaluation of future losses, by contrast, has lain almost exclusively within the domain of conservation biolo gists. Now, more than ever, there is opportunity for overlap and sharing of information. ![]() Free Download John Hudson Tiner, "Exploring the History of Medicine" English | ISBN: 0890512485 | | 165 pages | EPUB | 20 MB From surgery to vaccines, man has made great strides in the field of medicine. The meetings are conceived to bring together, in a small group setting, researchers from around the world who are in the forefront of experimental robotics research. ![]() Free Download Experiencing Accents: A Knight-Thompson Speechwork® Guide for Acting in Accent by Philip Thompson, Tyler Seiple English | 2024 | ISBN: 1032324147 | 267 Pages | PDF | 5.2 MB ![]() Free Download Áine Madden, "Expanding Austenland: The Pride and Prejudice Fanfiction Archive " English | ISBN: 3031394534 | 2023 | 348 pages | EPUB, PDF | 16 MB + 9 MB Expanding Austenland: The Pride and Prejudice Fanfiction Archive explores Jane Austen's reception in popular culture through an exploration of the ever-expanding terrain of online fanfiction, professionally published (profic) texts, and other intertextual reworkings inspired by the author's most popular novel, Pride and Prejudice. The book argues that given its pervasiveness, Pride and Prejudice could be usefully considered not as a single novel, but as an entire 'archive' of interrelated texts, or as a portal that opens a 'virtual world' for readers to expand and explore. By examining the Pride and Prejudice archive of interrelated texts, this book analyses the process through which an individual novel can develop a virtual life, or afterlife. The evolving world that is opened by Pride and Prejudice, and extended and enriched through fanfiction, is conceptualised in the monograph as 'Austenland'. ![]() Free Download Existence, Historical Fabulation, Destiny by A-T. Fox (editor), Jason B. Wolf (editor) 2006 | 608 Pages | ISBN: 0195168178 | PDF | 82 MB Charles Fox and Jason Wolf have brought together leading researchers to produce a cutting-edge primer introducing readers to the major concepts in modern evolutionary genetics. This book spans the continuum of scale, from studies of DNA sequence evolution through proteins and development to multivariate phenotypic evolution, and the continuum of time, from ancient events that lead to current species diversity to the rapid evolution seen over relatively short time scales in experimental evolution studies. Chapters are accessible to an audience lacking extensive background in evolutionaryy genetics but also current and in-depth enough to be of value to established researchers in evolution biology. ![]() Free Download Anna Cassalia, "Evaluative Thinking for Advanced Learners, Grades 3-5 (Integrated Lessons in Higher Order Thinking Skills)" English | 2022 | ISBN: 103219927X, 1032214236 | PDF | pages: 201 | 166.4 mb Evaluative Thinking for Advanced Learners, Grades 3-5 will teach students to think critically about values, issues, and ideas while creating defensible arguments. |
