They constitute a major ecological, economic, cultural, recreational and living environment in Europe, shared by numerous cultures and countries. The Southeastern European Mountain Regions are an important reservoir for biodiversity and habitats in Europe. A great number of protected areas - national parks, nature parks, reserves and nature monuments are located in these regions. From a socio-economic point of view the mountain regions are among the poorest areas in the Southeastern European countries, but they have potential for the implementation of successful economic activities. There are opportunities for development of these regions and, in particular, for trans-border integration and co-operation. This book brings together research results from experts from all Balkan countries working on the problems of the mountain regions in Southeastern Europe. The volume focuses on the challenges taking place along the rapid transformation in land use, biodiversity, tourism, nature risk and bio-productivity due to the global changes and particularly due to the local impacts of climate change. The key questions for discussion are:- Biodiversity, nature protection and conservation - Natural disasters and risk management- Social-economical development of the mountain regions- Spatial planning in the development of the mountain regions- Sustainable practices and politics for land use- Transborder co-operation. ![]() Free Download Surviving Our Catastrophes: Resilience and Renewal from Hiroshima to the COVID-19 Pandemic by Robert Jay Lifton English | September 5, 2023 | ISBN: 1620978156 | 122 pages | PDF | 2.05 Mb From the National Book Award winner, a powerful and timely rumination on how we can draw on historical examples of "survivor power" to understand the upheaval and death caused by the COVID-19 pandemic-and collectively heal ![]() Free Download Surgical Treatment of Colorectal Liver Metastases By Dario Ribero (auth.), Lorenzo Capussotti (eds.) 2011 | 184 Pages | ISBN: 8847018080 | PDF | 5 MB Surgery is the gold standard treatment of colorectal liver metastases. Patient management has undergone dramatic changes in recent years: more accurate diagnostic tools and more effective chemotherapy regimens have been introduced and surgical indications have been widely broadened. A multidisciplinary approach to treatment is now mandatory, involving oncologists, radiologists and gastroenterologists. However, many topics are still debated. This book analyzes all aspects of the surgical treatment of colorectal liver metastases based on a systematic, updated review of the literature. The aim of this volume is to provide surgeons, oncologists and radiologists with a clear overview of the state-of-the-art of treatment of colorectal liver metastases. ![]() Free Download Surgery: An Unfamiliar History by Nigel Keith Maybury English | August 31, 2022 | ISBN: 1398411493 | 433 pages | PDF | 4.26 Mb This is a fascinating account of surgery that throws light on forgotten and unknown aspects of its practice from antiquity to the present. It illuminates the rare periods of progress and also explains why there were lengthy times when no original operations were undertaken. ![]() Free Download Supramolecular Chemistry: From Biological Inspiration to Biomedical Applications By Peter J. Cragg (auth.) 2010 | 260 Pages | ISBN: 9048125812 | PDF | 9 MB Supramolecular chemistry is often described as the study of chemistry beyond the simple molecular level yet it is often forgotten how many of the pioneering su-pramolecular chemists looked to molecular biology for their ideas. The search for an aldolase enzyme mimic, the discovery of crown ethers that transported potas-sium as efficiently as valinomycin, and the synthesis of an antitubercular com-pound that resembled a transmembrane protein, all point to a biological inspira-tion. Since the field emerged in the last quarter of the 20th Century, advances in the synthesis of multifunctional molecules, coupled to a greater understanding of biological processes at the molecular level, have led supramolecular chemists to design compounds that not only mimic those in Nature but also have diagnostic and therapeutic applications. The book opens with an overview of supramolecular chemistry. In subsequent chapters parallels are drawn with biological phenomena: the formation of proteins and other biomolecules, the evolution of cells, and the design of channel-forming molecules and enzymes. The application of supramolecular principles to sensors and magic bullet therapies is explained and the future of supramolecular therapeutics is considered. The exciting combination of supramolecular chemistry and nanotechnology is discussed together with the likelihood that nanoengineered smart materials could one day circulate in the body to treat patients before they became aware of any symptoms.Supramolecular Chemistry: From Biological Inspiration to Biomedical Applications is aimed at postgraduates working at the chemistry/life science interface and final year undergraduate advanced options in supramolecular chemistry. It is hoped that it will also be of value to academics and professionals interested in the relevance of supramolecular chemistry to biology and vice versa. ![]() Free Download Supply Chain Resilience: Reconceptualizing Risk Management in a Post-Pandemic World by Omera Khan, Michael Huth, George A. Zsidisin English | November 16, 2022 | ISBN: 3031164881 | 256 pages | EPUB | 11 Mb This book provides insights from research and practice in how organizations were able to sustain resilience in their global supply chains during the COVID-19 pandemic and to advance the understanding of supply chain risk management. The chapters highlight the lessons learned, insist on new models for resilience, suggest improved supply chain risk methodologies and bridge the gap between research and practice. It helps readers acquire greater knowledge, strategic approaches, new methods, and practical tools for ensuring global supply chain resilience. ![]() Free Download Supervision im Fokus: Polyzentrische Analysen einer Supervision By Ulrich Oevermann (auth.), Dr. phil., Dr. disc. pol. Such topological magnetic excitations are indeed admitted in the spectrum of most grand unified field theories of elementary interactions. Despite 40 years of dedicated search efforts, nonetheless, they have never shown up in any experiment. This, however, does not preclude the possibility of topological magnetic monopoles being realized as excitations in emergent condensed matter states, where they would be much lighter and easier to create. This book is about the physical effects of such emergent magnetic monopoles. These range from a new mechanism for local, strong pairing of electrons possibly relevant for high-T superconductivity, to the formation of a new quantum phase of matter when monopoles condense. In such a condensate the electric interaction becomes extremely strong, so much so that only extended neutral states survive, with the consequence of an infinite resistance, even at finite temperatures. This state, called a superinsulator, is a dual superconductor and has been experimentally detected in various materials. In a superinsulator the electric interaction becomes analogous to the strong interaction holding quarks together in colour-neutral hadrons. Even more interesting is the case when the condensate carries both magnetic and electric charge. The ensuing state has properties that are strikingly reminiscent of the mysterious pseudogap state of high-T superconductors. Magnetic monopoles might thus have been hiding in plain sight where no one was looking for them for a long time. ![]() Free Download Super Simple Cooking with Kids: Recipes the Whole Family Will Love, and Your Little One Will Also Love to Make After School by Layla Tacy English | August 25, 2021 | ISBN: N/A | ASIN: B09DPWBY9M | 62 pages | PDF | 10 Mb This book will teach children about nutrition and the importance of preparing healthy meals at home.
