Spinoza and Law
Free Download Spinoza and Law By Andre Santos Campos
2015 | 442 Pages | ISBN: 1472435966 | PDF | 30 MB
This volume collects some of the best writings on Spinoza's philosophy of law and includes a critical examination of Spinoza's theory of the types of law, his natural law theory, as well as the modern reformulation of his approach to the nature of laws and to natural rights. This collection of essays (some of which are published in the English language for the very first time) shows how Spinoza was able to deliver a revolutionary idea of natural law that breaks away from the traditions of natural law and of legal positivism. The bulk of Spinoza's references to law derive from his metaphysical and political texts, but they have sufficient depth in order to form a groundbreaking theory of law that has been somewhat neglected by modern jurisprudence. The volume also features an introduction which places Spinoza's writings in the context of modern jurisprudence as well as an extensive bibliography. It is suited to the needs of jurisprudence scholars, teachers and students and is an essential resource for all law libraries; it is also essential to anybody who wishes to engage in Spinoza studies nowadays, whose practical philosophy has received a recent boom in attention by readers throughout the world.

Spies in the Himalayas Secret Missions and Perilous Climbs (Modern War Studies (Hardcover))
Free Download Spies in the Himalayas: Secret Missions and Perilous Climbs (Modern War Studies (Hardcover)) By M. S. Kohli, Mohan S. Kohli
2003 | 240 Pages | ISBN: 0700612238 | EPUB | 8 MB
In the towering mountains of northern India, a chilling chapter was written in the history of international espionage. After the Chinese detonated their first nuclear test in 1964, America and India, which had just fought a border war with its northern neighbor, were both justifiably concerned. The CIA knew it needed more information on China's growing nuclear capability but had few ways of peeking behind the Bamboo Curtain. Because of the extreme remoteness of Chinese testing grounds, conventional surveillance in this pre-satellite era was next to impossible. The solution to this intelligence dilemma was a joint American-Indian effort to plant a nuclear-powered sensing device on a high Himalayan peak in order to listen into China and monitor its missile launches. It was not a job that could be carried out by career spies, requiring instead the special skills possessed only by accomplishedmountaineers. For this mission, cloaks and daggers were to be replaced by crampons and ice axes. Spies in the Himalayas chronicles for the first time the details of these death-defying expeditions sanctioned by U.S. and Indian intelligence, telling the story of clandestine climbs and hair-raising exploits. Led by legendary Indian mountaineer Mohan S. Kohli, conqueror of Everest, the mission was beset by hazardous climbs, weather delays, aborted attempts, and even missing radioactive materials that may or may not still pose a contamination threat to Indian rivers. Kept under wraps for over a decade, these operations came to light in 1978 and have been long rumored among mountaineers, but here are finally given book-length treatment. Spies in the Himalayas provides an inside look at a CIA mission from participants who weren't agency employees, drawing on diaries from several of the climbers to offer impressions not usually recorded in covert operations. A host of photos and maps puts readers on the slopes as the team attempts repeatedly to plant the sensor on a Himalayan summit. An adventure story as well as a new chapter in the history of espionage, this book should appeal to readers who enjoyed Jon Krakauer's Into Thin Air and to anyone who enjoys a great spy story.

Spektroskopische Daten zur Strukturaufklärung organischer Verbindungen
Free Download Spektroskopische Daten zur Strukturaufklärung organischer Verbindungen By Ernö Pretsch, Philippe Bühlmann, Martin Badertscher (auth.)
2010 | 455 Pages | ISBN: 3540768653 | PDF | 94 MB

During the first quarter-century after its founding, the United States was swept by a wave of land speculation so unprecedented in intensity and scale that contemporaries and historians alike have dubbed it a "mania." In Speculation Nation, Michael A. Spectra for the Identification of Additives in Food Packaging
Free Download Spectra for the Identification of Additives in Food Packaging By Ben van Lierop, Laurence Castle, Alexandre Feigenbaum, Achim Boenke (auth.)
1998 | 525 Pages | ISBN: 9401061998 | PDF | 9 MB
This new book on additives used in plastics for food contact, can be seen as a companion to the 1993 publication Spectra for the Identification of Monomers in Food Packaging [1, 2]. That earlier book presented information on monomeric substances listed in Directive 901128/EEC [3], which restricts the range of monomers and other starting substances that can be used for the production of plastics materials and articles intended for food contact applications. As a logical supplement to the collection of monomers and other starting substances, the preparation of a reference collection and a Handbook of analytical data of additives was undertaken with funding from The European Commission under the Standards Measurements and Testing programme. We then give a collection of spectra for the identification of 100 of the most important additives used in plastics packaging and coatings. Infra-red (FT-IR) and mass spectra (MS) are presented, as in the monomers book, but we have extended the scope to include proton nuclear magnetic resonance eH-NMR) spectra and gas-chromatographic (GC) data. Legal Framework The Commission of the European Communities provides in Synoptic Document N. 7 [4] a provisional list of additives used for the production of food contact plastics. This Synoptic Document anticipates a Directive on additives for food contact plastics. One hundred of the most important additives were selected from this provisional list after extensive consultation with researchers in the field and with representatives from European industry (Food Contact Additives Panel (FCA) sector group of the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC).

Spaces of Security Ethnographies of Securityscapes, Surveillance, and Control
Free Download Spaces of Security: Ethnographies of Securityscapes, Surveillance, and Control By Mark Maguire, Setha Low (editor)
2019 | 280 Pages | ISBN: 1479863017 | EPUB | 2 MB
An ethnographic investigation into the dynamics between space and security in countries around the world It is difficult to imagine two contexts as different as a soccer stadium and a panic room. Yet, they both demonstrate dynamics of the interplay between security and space. This book focuses on the infrastructures of security, considering locations as varied as public entertainment venues to border walls to blast-proof bedrooms. Around the world, experts, organizations, and governments are managing societies in the name of security, while scholars and commentators are writing about surveillance, state violence, and new technologies. Yet in spite of the growing emphasis on security, few truly consider the spatial dimensions of security, and particularly how the relationship between space and security varies across cultures. This volume explores spaces of security not only by attending to how security is produced by and in spaces, but also by emphasizing the ways in which it is constructed in the contemporary landscape. The book explores diverse contexts ranging from biometrics in India to counterterrorism in East Africa to border security in Argentina. The ethnographic studies demonstrate the power of a spatial lens to highlight aspects of security that otherwise remain hidden, while also adding clarity to an elusive and dangerous way of managing the world.

Space, Gender, Knowledge Feminist Readings
Free Download Space, Gender, Knowledge: Feminist Readings By Linda McDowell (ed.), Joanne P. Sharp (ed.)
1997 | 480 Pages | ISBN: 0470236698 | PDF | 11 MB
'Space Gender Knowledge' is an innovative and comprehensive introduction to the geographies of gender and the gendered nature of spatial relations. It examines the major issues raised by women's movements and academic feminism, and outlines the main shifts in feminist geographical work, from the geography of women to the impact of post-structuralism. In making their selection, the editors have drawn on a wide range of interdisciplinary material, ranging across spatial scales from the body to the globe. The book presents influential arguments for the importance of the intersection between space and gender. Looking both at geography and beyond the discipline, it explores the gendered construction of space and the spatial construction of gender. Divided into a number of conceptual sections, each prefaced by an editorial introduction, this reader includes extracts from both landmark texts and less well-known works, making it an indispensable introduction to this dynamic field of study.
