Personal Names in Cuneiform Texts from Babylonia (c. 750–100 BCE) An Introduction
Free Download Personal Names in Cuneiform Texts from Babylonia (c. 750-100 BCE): An Introduction
English | 2024 | ISBN: 1009291084 | 346 Pages | PDF (True) | 4 MB
Personal names provide fascinating testimony to Babylonia's multi-ethnic society. This volume offers a practical introduction to the repertoire of personal names recorded in cuneiform texts from Babylonia in the first millennium BCE. In this period, individuals moved freely as well as involuntarily across the ancient Middle East, leaving traces of their presence in the archives of institutions and private persons in southern Mesopotamia. The multilingual nature of this name material poses challenges for students and researchers who want to access these data as part of their exploration of the social history of the region in the period. This volume offers guidelines and tools that will help readers navigate this difficult material. The title is also available Open Access on Cambridge Core.

Expert athletes understand the mind-body connection. For years, they have learned mental skills from coaches, consultants, and other practitioners in order to optimize physical performance. Now, these same mental skills are being taught to a broad range of performers, such as dancers, actors, lawyers, surgeons, business leaders, and rescue workers. The resulting new field of performance psychology allows performers from a variety of fields to "get their head out of the way so that their body can do what it's trained to do."

In 1915, Thomas Edison proclaimed that he could record a live performance and reproduce it perfectly, shocking audiences who found themselves unable to tell whether what they were hearing was an Edison Diamond Disc or a flesh-and-blood musician. Today, the equation is reversed. Whereas Edison proposed that a real performance could be rebuilt with absolute perfection, Pro Tools and digital samplers now allow musicians and engineers to create the illusion of performances that never were. In between lies a century of sonic exploration into the balance between the real and the represented.

Penn Yan and Keuka Lake
Free Download R Mitchell Charles, "Penn Yan and Keuka Lake"
English | 2004 | pages: 130 | ISBN: 1531619940, 0752405586 | EPUB | 49,9 mb
Penn Yan and Keuka Lake share a history that is rich in architecture, industry, and tradition. Penn Yan was established in 1833 as a village on the edge of New York's Keuka Lake; the unique name was chosen because the first people to settle in the village were comprised of Yankees from New England and Pennsylvania. The town's name is just on e of the many distinctive aspects of Penn Yan and Keuka Lake's intriguing past; the town has long had a commercial district, much of which occupies the historic district today. Still standing in the historic district are many of the elegant houses that were constructed in the nineteenth century, reflecting a time when Penn Yan experimented with several architectural styles. Mills, railroads, and steam boat businesses once thrived throughout the area.

Pedagogical Innovations in Foreign Language Learning via Interlocutor Familiarity
Free Download Christine E. Poteau, "Pedagogical Innovations in Foreign Language Learning via Interlocutor Familiarity"
English | ISBN: 1443881678 | 2017 | 155 pages | PDF | 570 KB
Creating classroom spaces that allow for increased learner participation and lowered anxiety levels allows for an inclusive learning environment. Continuing collaborative efforts to challenge theories and further test methodologies by drawing upon research studies helps researchers and educators to become more informed about individual learner preferences and classroom contextual factors and to foster meaningful learning environments across disciplines. Specifically, examining distinct learner contexts can allow educators to explore new avenues of pedagogical design to improve learning contexts. Taking into consideration diverse approaches to language pedagogies, distinct learning styles, and the growing need to develop intercultural competence in communities and professions across the globe, this book will serve to help educators transform classrooms into socially engaging environments, and explores innovative ways in which pedagogical performance and learning experiences can be improved. Drawing upon sociocultural theory, cognitive theory, and affective factors in foreign language learning, this study is based on doctoral research that explores the effects of interlocutor familiarity in group settings in two beginner-level language courses. Reflecting on diverse learner perspectives and individual learner factors can allow educators to increase learners connections to content and transform the way we approach pedagogical methods and diverse learner needs.
