Turbulence in Magnetohydrodynamics
Free Download Andrey Beresnyak, "Turbulence in Magnetohydrodynamics "
English | ISBN: 3110262908 | 2019 | 286 pages | EPUB | 34 MB
Magnetohydrodynamics describes dynamics in electrically conductive fluids. These occur in our environment as well as in our atmosphere and magnetosphere, and play a role in the sun's interaction with our planet. In most cases these phenomena involve turbulences, and thus are very challenging to understand and calculate. A sound knowledge is needed to tackle these problems. This work gives the basic information on turbulence in nature, comtaining the needed equations, notions and numerical simulations. The current state of our knowledge and future implications of MHD turbulence are outlined systematically. It is indispensable for all scientists engaged in research of our atmosphere and in space science.

Truth in Serial Form Serial Formats and the Form of the Series, 1850–1930
Free Download Malika Maskarinec, "Truth in Serial Form: Serial Formats and the Form of the Series, 1850-1930 "
English | ISBN: 3110795086 | 2023 | 320 pages | EPUB, PDF | 7 MB + 211 MB
This volume has its starting point in the veritable explosion of serialized formats in all of forms representation, from painting to printing, beginning in the mid nineteenth century and the well-known fascination with series in biology, mathematics, music, art, or literature. The new media culture of the late nineteenth century, very much shaped by these serialized formats, sees itself confronted with questions of truthfulness in new and profound ways, just as perhaps the accelerated rhythm, anonymity, and broadened accessibility of new media today have created new possibilities for the dissemination of misinformation and, conversely, give us cause to interrogate anew our notions of truthfulness. By examining both the formal operations of both aesthetic and scientific objects in a series form, and the historical context of their publication or presentation, the contributions in this volume examine the often strained, but yet immensely productive relationship between the way in which a series negotiates questions of truthfulness: both by reference to the rules established in its series form or by means of its serial format. This volume provides ten detailed cases of the series form from the history of science and journalism, and the history of painting, photography, and literature as well.

Translanguaging for Equal Opportunities Speaking Romani at School
Free Download János Imre Heltai, "Translanguaging for Equal Opportunities: Speaking Romani at School "
English | ISBN: 3110769514 | 2023 | 270 pages | EPUB, PDF | 2 MB + 31 MB
This multi-authored monograph, located in the intersection of translanguaging research and Romani studies, offers a state-of-the-art analysis of the ways in which translanguaging supports bilingual Roma students' learning in monolingual school systems. Complete with a video repository of translanguaging classroom moments, this comprehensive study is based on long-term participatory ethnographic research and a pedagogical implementation project undertaken in Hungary and Slovakia by a group of primary teachers, bilingual Roma participants, and researchers. Co-written by academic and non-academic participants, the book is an essential reading for researchers, pre- and in-service teachers of Romani-speaking students, and experts working with collaborators (learners, informants, activists) whose home languages are excluded from mainstream education and school curricula. The videofiles in the book are available via the following website: http: //www.kre.hu/romanitranslanguaging/index.php/video-repository/

Theoretical Concepts in Physics An Alternative View of Theoretical Reasoning in Physics Ed 3
Free Download Malcolm S. Longair, "Theoretical Concepts in Physics: An Alternative View of Theoretical Reasoning in Physics Ed 3"
English | ISBN: 1108484530 | 2020 | 636 pages | EPUB | 9 MB
In this original and integrated approach to theoretical reasoning in physics, Malcolm Longair illuminates the subject from the perspective of real physics as practised by research scientists. Concentrating on the basic insights, attitudes and techniques that are the tools of the modern physicist, this approach conveys the intellectual excitement and beauty of the subject. Through a series of seven case studies, an undergraduate course in classical physics and the discovery of quanta are reviewed from the point of the view of how the great discoveries and changes of perspective came about. This approach illuminates the intellectual struggles needed to attain understanding of some of the most difficult concepts in physics. Longair's highly acclaimed text has been fully revised and includes new studies on the physics of fluids, Maxwell's great paper on equations for the electromagnetic field and problems of contemporary cosmology and the very early universe.

The state and the paradox of customary law in Africa
Free Download The state and the paradox of customary law in Africa By Olaf Zenker and Markus Hoehne
2018 | 245 Pages | ISBN: 1409468631 | PDF | 4 MB
Customary law and traditional authorities continue to play highly complex and contested roles in contemporary African states. Reversing the common preoccupation with studying the impact of the post/colonial state oncustomary regimes, this volume analyses how the interactions between state and non-state normative orders have shaped the everyday practices of the state. It argues that, in their daily work, local officials are confronted with a paradox of customary law: operating under politico-legal pluralism and limited state capacity, bureaucrats must often, paradoxically, deal with custom - even though the form and logic of customary rule is not easily com patible and frequently incommensurable with the form and logic of thestate - in order to do their work as a state. Given the self-contradictory nature of this endeavour, officials end up processing, rather than solving, this paradox in multiple, inconsistent and piecemeal ways. Assembling inventive case studies on state-driven land reforms in South Africa and Tanzania, the police in Mozambique, witchcraft in southern Sudan, constitutional reform in South Sudan, Guinea's longue durée of changing state engagements with custom, and hybrid political orders in Somaliland, this volume offers important insights into the divergent strategies used by African officials in handling this paradox of customary law and, somehow, getting their work done.

The Work of Art in the Age of Its Technological Reproducibility, and Other Writings on Media
Free Download The Work of Art in the Age of Its Technological Reproducibility, and Other Writings on Media By Benjamin, Walter;Jennings, Michael W(Editor);Doherty, Brigid(Editor);Jephcott, Edmund F N(Translator)
2008 | 374 Pages | ISBN: 0674024451 | PDF | 16 MB
Benjamin's famous 'Work of Art' essay sets out his boldest thoughts--on media and on culture in general--in their most realized form, while retaining an edge that gets under the skin of everyone who reads it. In this essay the visual arts of the machine age morph into literature and theory and then back again to images, gestures, and thought. This essay, however, is only the beginning of a vast collection of writings that the editors have assembled to demonstrate what was revolutionary about Benjamin's explorations on media. Long before Marshall McLuhan, Benjamin saw that the way a bullet rips into its victim is exactly the way a movie or pop song lodges in the soul. This book contains the second, and most daring, of the four versions of the 'Work of Art' essay the one that addresses the utopian developments of the modern media. The collection tracks Benjamin's observations on the media as they are revealed in essays on the production and reception of art; on film, radio, and photography; and on the modern transformations of literature and painting. The volume contains some of Benjamin's best-known work alongside fascinating, little-known essays--some appearing for the first time in English. In the context of his passionate engagement with questions of aesthetics, the scope of Benjamin's media theory can be fully appreciated.
