Free Download Vaccines: Mythology, Ideology, and Reality by John Leake, Peter A. McCullough
English | July 29th, 2025 | ISBN: 1648211895 | 240 pages | True EPUB | 1.36 MB
The word "vaccine" derives from the Latin word for cow. The English physician, Edward Jenner, coined it in his 1798 pamphlet An Inquiry into the Causes and Effects of the Variolae Vaccinae. The last two Latin words mean "Smallpox of the Cow," or cowpox. Jenner postulated that cowpox causes mild disease in humans while protecting them from the more dangerous smallpox. His proposal for inoculation with a weak form of disease-causing matter to prevent serious illness became the central concept of infectious disease medicine and has remained so ever since. The word "vaccine" was subsequently applied to immunizations against all infectious diseases. Its etymology is amazingly apt, because vaccines are the ultimate sacred cow.

Free Download Urban Railway Alignment Optimization: Theory and Practice by Yan Gao, Qing He
English | September 22, 2025 | ISBN: 9819507758 | 222 pages | Epub PDF (True) | 72 Mb
This book falls within the field of urban transportation planning and design, with a particular focus on urban railway alignment optimization. It delves into the background, challenges, and objective functions and constraints (including cost, environmental impact, and risk) of urban railway alignment design. Furthermore, it presents system reliability modeling approaches for assessing the reliability of parallel railway lines. Additionally, the book emphasizes GIS-based methods for land use analysis and automatic demolition area calculation, as well as the Bayesian Sustainable Intelligent Framework for Enhancing Parallel Railway Reliability, which integrates system reliability analysis, the two-dimensional finite element method, and the Bayesian neural network surrogate model. Lastly, it covers the optimization of railway alignment using approximate dynamic programming, introducing a bi-objective approximate fine-grained optimization model that considers both construction cost and construction risk adjacent to existing operating railways.

Free Download Carl-Frederik Geust - Under the Red Star: Luftwaffe Aircraft in the Soviet Air Force
Specialty Press | 1993 | ISBN: 1853103950 | English | 159 pages | PDF | 176.96 MB
One of the few remaining mysteries of World War two has been the extent to which the Soviet Air Force used German aircraft. Based on both Soviet and German records, Under the Red Star tells the full story for the first time. It was known that a number of German aircraft were purchased after the signature of the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact in 1939 but what was not known was that a great many captured aircraft types were captured and test-flown during the war and many were used operationally. Under the Red Star fills an important gap in the aviation history of World War Two with over 200 photos, most never before published, and a wealth of text material never before published in the west.
